Their prices fluctuate waaaay too much. I got the extended Blu-ray trilogy of LOTR 2/3 years ago at JBHIFI for $45-47. I have seen it at the $100 plus mark and anywhere in-between depending on the weather.

I think they jumped the prices up because of the demand after the Hobbit movies were released. Dirty, but $57 isn't TOO bad.

EDIT: Yep, marked down from $114.98. So less 20% it would be $92 approx, so me also thinks those routine 20% off deals are just bringing the price back down to an acceptable level…for them.

Still, $57 is the best I have seen in a brick and mortar store for a long time.

Do they pay you $100 to watch Big Bang Theory?

      That's not enough.

I pay $100 per annum to members of my family if they promise not to watch this show on TV.

  • If Win TV hadn't broadcast every episode of The Big Bang Theory at least 3 times the series might actually be worth getting, not at $100 though.

too bad there's no discount for extended version for Hobbit Trilogy Box set

    • My thoughts exactly. I got all excited but then saw it was only the regular versions. Still, great prices!

      • I've seen the extended version of the first Hobbit film but not the later two. Is there much in the way of worthwhile content added to those two? I could probably do without 30 more minutes of fighting in Battle of the Five Armies, but some more of the side plot around the necromancer and the like would be welcome.

        • I know for a fact the first two had extended editions, not sure on the last one.

The extended editions of LOTR and The Hobbit are great for fans as they put in the content they cut out for the typical moviegoer, extra details that fans can appreciate.

        • @Kayeff Sea: yeah I've seen the others. Mostly curious about Battle of the Five Armies since it was so very light on story to begin with. The LOTR editions added some worthwhile stuff to the plot, was curious if that was true for the final one and it would get a bit more substance or if it was just extended combat.

        • @Smigit: The extended hobbit ones didn't add anything worthwhile. Shame

          @smpantsonfire:

Battle of the Five Armies extended edition had a funeral scene for Thorin, which was very noticeable in its absence in the theatrical version. That was worthwhile.

Not at all. In 'The Desolation of Smaug', Gandalf's discovery of bewitched Thrain II, Thorin's father, at Dol Guldur, is omitted in non-extended version.

  • Great price for the LOTR boxset!

  • Some good selections here. "The West Wing", "Father Ted", "Veronica Mars", "BlackAdder", "Sherlock", etc. The problem is I already have most of these.

The price fluctuations are unbelievable. Are they really trying to encourage us to import from the UK? Makes no sense. Some of these hobbits were way cheaper over the last 2 years. The Extended trilogy price has not moved at all - I guess they are telling me to go ahead with the UK order as my trying to wait to spend my dough locally was obviously a waste of time.

    • Exactly. I'm all for supporting businesses in Australia, but only if they support us. JB have some decent sales from time to time but their prices are like a rollercoaster ride. They must choose the sticker price by throwing darts on a board and seeing where it lands.
