Got an email from Xero offering 29% off for 3 months by using the promo code UFO29 when signing up.
Software is a pretty good cloud based accounting system. It is having a big up take at the moment with it being aimed to people who don't have accounting knowledge as an alternative to MYOB.
Hopefully this helps someone who is looking to sign up anyway.

Excel spreadsheets take up 10x the amount of time and also means more time spent by the accountants doing your annual accounts
With Bank feeds it removes the human error of coding/allocating bank transactions
If you have no payroll or just 1 or 2 employees, you can set up a GST cashbook which removes the payroll function and just pay the Net wages each pay. It comes to $19/month plus the discount accountants get but won't pass on without you questioning it.

Only if you haven's set up your spreadsheets correctly…
Also, providing a spreadsheet to your accountant, with the correct information, is much more efficient than giving them a pile of paper documents….

If you knew anything about xero and weren't just commenting for negs you would know that with xero you can easily give your accountant acess to your xero account with a special log in.
No need for a pile of papers….
You need to pay for that.
My bookkeeping cost me nothing and is quicker than using Xero or MYOB.
Xero is good but expensive. The basic $25/m package is practically useless - max 5 invoices & 20 bank transactions. Big jump to the next level @ $50/m. Do you really need a cloud-based solution? Also be aware that they ALL try lock you into their products, and make it difficult to export/convert to other products

Depends on your business and how many invoices you need to do…
There are cheaper packages that Xero certified partners can access for you if you aren't needing invoicing or payroll with no transaction limits.
Incidentally it is pretty easy to export information out of Xero if you wish to switch or stop
i think that XERO is the best software (for basic use such as doing your own books) on the market at the moment. It is more user friendly than MYOB and its cloud based software is very reliable. Not sure about this particular deal, but i would definitely recommend you to get it when you feel comfortable to do so. Also, i would recommend getting a bigger package (more transactions). Pretty sure you can get a demonstration from resellers who can showcase the features.

they have a US version.. maybe the coupon is only eligible for USA customers…

'Xero help' is included…
It got big in Australia before it expanded elsewhere in the world.
The Xero help is miles ahead of MYOB or quickbooks.
They have video tutorials, a huge Xero help library and a respond very fast to their Xero support centre

I've used them a few times to sort out some issues for some accountants and found them quite knowledgeable and useful… Their business hours suck though.

I have to say the community is very handy.
Most of my angst towards MYOB Help is the request to send in MYOB files for when their software creates 1 sided journals or crash. Then have the nerve to charge you to fix it
I do love my MYOB but Xero is simpler and much easier to teach beginners.

I also know someone who runs their own small business and they've just moved from MYOB to Xero and couldn't be happier. I'll mention this offer to them in case it's still of use to existing (recently) clients.
Been using WaveApps for a year and half it is working well. Generate invoices, statements, link credit acrd payments (if you choose). Email function and cloud hosting of invoices for customer viewing (shows when read), reminders for overdue invoices

Does it cater for Australian businesses specifically - BAS, payroll, super etc?
I have heard it's an AMAZING system, looking at managing accounts when new internet business takes off sometime in next couple months and asking small businesses what they use. Was in my Bicycle store yesterday and asked him who they use….. XERO. Says incomparable to what was there before MYOB and quickbooks I think, and met someone at yoga who was saying she got a bookkeeping job but not a bookkeeper, just uses their system for her husbands tree surgeon business…. XERO.
Anyone else got recommendations for it?
