buy an 800 dollar phone and have to replace it in 2 years
or buy a 250 dollar Xiaomi and have to replace it in 2 years

hmm, not really a tough call here

I've been thinking the same thing :)

    • Really trying to justify the new G5 or xoami m5 similar specs but with the added advantage of being able to install apps on the sd and 1/2 the price.

    • The nexus will be useable for up to four years with it's software updates and security patches.

Note this hold version is a grey import.

      • The nexus will be useable for up to four years

come on now, who uses the same phone for 4 years.

going by that logic, all phones will be usable for 4 years as long as the manufacturers support them (and lots do)

Non wasteful people like me. If you're heavy into mobile gaming and vr then it's understandable that you might need the best screen, bigger batteries, more ram and faster chips. But if you use it more to search the net, listen to music, watch YouTube, navigate, take a few pics, some social media, and email then yes using it for four years shouldn't be hard not require an upgrade to a new device.

        • @Tjjjishool: ur exactly right and i do the exact same, used my iphone4 since the first day it came out, many years later i got my nexus5 on xmas, only because the battery of the i4 became rubbish and phone was wayyyyy too slow
Up until today im still using my n5, did a diy on battery change and its still going strong :) hopefully the next gen of nexus will have a cheaper model so i can replace it

  • I'm looking for a black one locally, but it appears only the silver is sold is Australia. I'm going overseas soon, so was hoping to claim the GST back.
I can get the 32gb silver from Virgin for $676 after TRS GST refund, or the 64gb black from DWI for $799. I'm still trying to decide if the $123 extra is worth it.

The Xiaomi Mi5 looks interesting, but it's looking like it'll be $450-600, and I'm not familiar with MIUI; I assume I'd rather stick with pure Android and get quick updates.

    • I have the silver and it's very slippery so you might think about a case. I went with the adopted slim black one and its basically all black apart from the cutout for the FP scanner.
Also I've heard the black chips and rubs off.
Might be something to think about.

      • Yeah, I've heard that about the black. I don't do cases, so that might be a reason to stick with silver.
Some people on Whirlpool have got JB down to $848 (although others can't get them lower than $888). I'll talk to my local can see if they can do $850, then I could buy $850 worth of JB gift cards from Woolworths using discounted eGift cards for $807.50. Less the TRS refund of $77 = $730, assuming all goes to plan. So $54 more than the 32GB from Virgin.

  • I paid this much for the 32gb version. Initially I was worried about the no sd card thing, but after 3 and a half years with my s3, i never once removed the card.
Plus I back up my photos via Google photos automatically with Google photos.

Local optus stock outright available for $744- local warranty. It's 32GB though, must be sufficient for lot of people

  • So where would be the best deal if I wanted to get a 64gb 6P today in store?

    • You only have the choice of Harvey Norman for $998 with a free talk band, or JB for $948. Haggling with JB should get you to $850-880.

  • Delivery is not free outside of metro areas. Need to change the title.
