Note that Server 2016 is out this year and these exams will start becoming redundant.

It won't be redundant anytime soon.. You don't just roll out the latest and greatest on day 1. 2012 R2 will still be relevant for a while

Thanks OP for the post! Passing onto my team now

It'll be years before 2012 R2 will stop being used by a lot of businesses. I frequently come across servers still running Windows SBS 2003 - 2008.

      @jnav @Clear
You are correct in your statements that many organisations are running 2012 and will continue to do so for many years (heck, there are many still moving services from 2003/2008 to 2012!).

However, I believe the point that @abc was trying to make was that the certification for 2012 is now on it's way to becoming redundant. And IMO, there is no need to down vote & victimise @abc for such a statement, because it's largely true.

The certification pathway will start to become redundant, which is the typical Microsoft way… Force the professionals/experts to the newer technology. Ask yourself how many organisations are running Exchange 2010 vs how many run 2013, yet how long has it been since 2010 certifications were retired? And here, the difference between the two products warrants having certification in one or the other (or both…) since the architecture has changed significantly enough.

      • No downvotes from me. Don't be quick to assume it came from us.

I understand what he means by it being redundant soon in the Microsoft certifications, but it's still very useful to read up on as it'll be around for another 10+ years.

Basic server routine will be the same, so getting your feet wet now will only help later.

    Ta!

    I can't wait for the 2012.R2.D2 update

    • R2D2 will just take a glance at you and then it will be over.

"Thank you. You should recieve your email soon."

    Lucky they aren't teaching spelling.

These seem short, 45 pages for 70-410? Doesn't seem like nearly enough :/

    • No one said it was a complete study guide for the exam.

I just keep putting this exam off.. So sick of keeping certs up-to-date.. maybe this will be the year I get 2012 certified.. then I can look forward to putting off the 2016 after that..

  • Good stuff. But looks like these are for Server 2012, not 2012 R2.

Edit: Nevermind, the exams are the same for both version

  • Cheers OP. I'm actually doing this as part of my Networking course.

  • Thank you , was talking about this today

  • Thanks OP

    Just FYI

Downloaded the pdf's but I can tell you all that they are no big then 45 pages each and there are 3 pdf files. So I personally don't think they are that detailed as I expected

So in other words, don't be fooled into thinking that this will be all you need to pass the exam.

      • totally agree .. I don't think we will be even close
