  • 1TB ≠ 1000GB

    Does anyone know what model MSY stock, as they have a 1TB (or 1024GB) for $95

      1TB = 1000GB

        1TB=1000x1000x1000x1000bytes -> This is what you get(actual what you see on computer when you install)
        1TB=1024x1024x1024x1024bytes -> This is the right value disguised in Marketing

        500GB=500x1024x1024x1024 -> What you should really get

    I've got one of these drives, use it in my HTPC. At the time it was one of the fastest 1TB drives around (2x500GB platters) but has been outpaced by newer units like Samsung F3 (which I also just picked up).

    I've had no clicking noises on the 1TB Seagate 7200.12 but it seems like many have. It's still a good price, and in fact the same price I paid when 9289 had it on sale in Sept. 2009.

    Otherwise, check out the Samsung F3 - $88 + $15 shipping (http://www.allneeds.com.au/prod628.htm).

    About 12 stores scattered across NSW, VIC, QLD, WA that have a cheaper/same walk-in.. If you're near any of them.

  • Had a 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drive. Drive failed and lost all my data (movies, work files). Had no backup coz i couldnt afford to buy two of these (this was a few years back when large hard drives cost 200-300 bucks).

    Not a fan of the barracuda range. But thats just my experience.
