Signed up. Wonder if it's like the 'free' similar thing from Microsoft a while ago (never got one lol).

    • +23

same, never got one from Microsoft way back then

      • +7

        Here also

        • +1

Yeah me too sadly. I was interested in that.

    • +7

I managed to be one of the lucky ones who received the Galileo when they had the promotion a year or so ago. So they definitely did give some away!

        • -2

          Me too :p

    • Got an email advising I will be getting one :)

Granted I have a degree in CS and work in Development so it's not going to waste!

  • -6

    lol really

  • +5

same here, never receive it, but registered anyway…

  • -1

signed up with school email and my home adress…. lets see what happens

    • what company did you put? ie. school name, home address?

      • +3

        ie. school name

        http://goo.gl/x8MdN1

        • just got a confirmation email saying the pi will be shipped to my registered business address within the next 2 weeks, i put the registered business address as my home address

  • -6

    Thanks. Registered

    • Neg for this.. seriously?
Unless you know what EC does…

      • I've only seen him post some good deals, what does he do other than that?

        • Yea, though many times his attitude was a bit sus on the replies and posts, but here I dont see anything wrong. Anyway, lets move on.

  • Won't get one, but work's too cheap to upgrade our Pi 2s so worth a shot.

    • +1

just got a confirmation email saying they've been shipped! looks promising

  • +22

I didn't get a confirmation. They are most likely using an IBM mail server.

    • +2

      Domino, lel.

    • Did anyone get a confirmation email? Or does the confirmation come in later?

    • IBM are a joke. They don't even force SMTP authentication for outgoing on their internal corporate domino servers. I'm glad I no longer work for such a rort of an organisation.

Edit: I'm sure some devs will find that interesting and does open the flood gates for spam email originating from an au.ibm.com address without individual signing.

      • confirmation email came through on saturday

Using a shoddy cipher in their certificate, ahh good to see some things never change at big blue.. the maccas of the IT world

  • +5

If anyone asks I'm a video game developer.

  • -1

raspberry? What do you do eat it? Lol

I'm sure many will sign up from here not even knowing what to expect.

    • You cut it and then eat it. It's a raspberry pie after all

      • +1

Better than what you do to an American Apple Pi

        • +1

          I disagree.

  • +1

1500 clicks reached - more than 1 per second 👍

  • Anyone know the nutritional value of this raspberry pie?

    • +25

      1GB of fat32

  • +2

used my university email I got free with the fitbit deal lol

  • This is a great find. Hoping it arrives soon!

  • +1

    Site getting ozbargained?

  • Anyone know if we need to confirm our emails to receive it, got no email after 5 mins

  • "The page you requested cannot be displayed"
    A promising start.

  • -1

If IBM are stupid enough to send one to me I'll play with it.

    • +1

      What about the Pi?

      • Ha, yes play with both! :-P

  • +4

    Page is unavailable

Has been on reddit for like 11hrs, good luck!

  • damn it, server not responding, could not submit form, and now i cant even get back on to the page :(

  • "Our apologies…
The page you requested cannot be displayed"

  • Looks like it!

  • +1

I'm getting through, but can't add my "province /state"

  • Gone

  • +1

Ozbargainers are faster than time. In just 2 minutes 1300 clicks to 2700 clicks. Amazing ;)

  • +35

This is what I hate about Ozbargain. People who could actually benefit from this and use it the way IBM intended will miss out. No wonder physical freebies are on the decline here.

Obviously other things have contributed like reddit ;)

      • +1

You're trying too hard to be jv.

        • +7

exactly - what you meant is that if you are a business and actually WANT to give out free samples to a SPECIFIC customer base OZB/reddit now in 2016 basically makes it impossible unless you have some kind of digital signature verification subcription system which makes it a more expensive endeavour than it needs to be.

Its more like that deadpool tickets giveaway last month - there was a givaway - just not intended for a general audience.

        • -4

seemingly you had no issue here > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/236657 where people were claiming free spider posters, some of those people might not even live in an area where there ARE spiders…. depriving people in spider-filled areas a poster chart to spot whats crawling around their outhouse

        • +2

          @Makoto:

seemingly you had no issue here

just ignore Humpty Dumpty, he had a great fall recently…. hasn't been the same since…

        • +2

@Makoto: You're trying too hard and shown that you haven't even read my comment properly.

This freebie was intended for qualified developers as mentioned on the page. That poster was for anyone.

        • @jv: Mr Blobby hasn't been the same since the theme park closed :(

        • +1

          @Clear:

This freebie was intended for qualified developers as mentioned on the page.

The page no longer displays. How did they define 'qualified developers' ?

        • -5

@Clear: you're whinging that people that get this might not be a fully fledged developer yet. the whole purpose was to create and give experience to newbies

good on everyone that gets a free one. go back to stealing your pay tv content, because that must be morally perfectly fine for oyu

        • @Makoto: I'm sooking because people who could have benefited by this may have missed out.

I'll go get the last home and away from TPB. Thanks for reminding me.

        • @jv: Phalse High Distinctions

      • +6

You’re dealing with a technical product that — unlike movie tickets,, shampoo, or condoms — many OzBs will take and deprive others of without even knowing what it is. (See also: ‘lol do you eat it’ comments, Galileo board that non-devs jumped on thinking it ‘runs Windows 10’). Not to mention the $ difference between a 'free sample' of shampoo and an actual shipping computer hardware product. A Pi 3 runs about 80 bucks w/the new 2.5A adapter at our exchange rate.

        • -2

without even knowing what it is.

          Solved…

    • +2

As I mentioned earlier, was on reddit 12hrs or so ago, likely been posted somewhere else online too.
Highly likely no one here gets one

      • +2

Correct. IBM intended this to be for the qualified developer and not the everyday user. I don't expect my comment to be popular with those that think it's for anyone. Hopefully a sizable amount of qualified developers got lucky 12hrs ago.

        • +2

As a lifelong member of the IT community all I can say is: "They wish!"

  • +1

Damn, missed out, and I could have done with a Pi3 … anyway, back to my Pi2 :(

    • Same here, missed out too. You're more privileged than me though I still got the original Pi 😩

      • I sold my original Pi to finance the 2 ….

    • Back to the DragonBoard. There goes my chance to convince my workplace that this may be a better fit without forking out for one myself.

Hope they make good coasters for someone.

  • +1

I filled out my details just now … no message like "hey you're not getting one" :) … let's see what happens …

  • +4

    seems active again

    • Yep, definitely active.

  • +4

Damn, im a student (studying IT), and actually do dabble in IOT around the house, but not a 'qualified developer' so i doubt i'll get one. Either way, i hope they do properly process the registrations and knock back every single person who just registered because it was free and would have no use for it.

    • -6

LOL. You are qualified and everyone else isnt - Right! Sure!

      • +4

No, i'm saying i'm NOT a qualified developer, just like probably 95% of people trying to claim this from ozbargain.

    • Don't know where you're studying, but hopefully they'll give you access to something decent anyway. Better than my University provided me a few years back (custom built microprocessor boards where every second one didn't work, and every other one didn't work as expected) now there are cheap and mass produced options like this out there.

If not it's good for learning that Murphy's Law, which will be one of your most important lessons in this business.

  • Still working!

  • Just submitted and got a "Thank You". I'm going to take this to mean I definitely got one :)

    • +1

      Computer says "No."

      I'll take that as a "Yes." ;-)

  • +1

    Thanks…hopefully I get a piece of pi.

  • Getting Started with IoT is as easy as Pi!
This service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

    • Keep refreshing… it eventually worked for me.

Presumably a lot of other people are doing the same thing, hence the occasional error.

It took a while to submit for me, lots of duplicate Facebook Pixel errors were logged in the browser console.

Got a thank you - then it went to some other page. No confirmation email yet… I'm a professional developer but given that I don't have any upcoming IoT projects (or have anything to do with IoT), and combined with the fact that the service appears pretty buggy / overloaded… I don't think I'll get one.

9872 clicks. Those 1500 are long gone now.
I think the mods can close this one off.

  • Is IBM planning to implement ARM architecture?

I missed this offer, but I only saw an article about IBM and ARM working together for IOT development.

Any ideas how the RPi relates to IBM?

    • IBM has a IOT platform for recieving and processing the data dont they?

  • +1

Error "This service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

    • OzBargained

  • +2

After submitting the form, it just forwarded me to the 'Explore IBM Watson Internet of Things' page — I didn't see any message confirming that they'll be sending me the Pi… No confirmation email either.

  • Has anyone got an email about this yet?
Isn't today Pi day in the US?

    • i was hoping this too, no emails yet :(

    • +1

      I got an email today.

      • +1

        Me too!
