look at the price! seems doesnt matter how much apple put as price tag they will still sell out well.
if that comes with free streaming hollywood movies for live i will buy

    • -4

Might buy one if it's 1/4 of $212. Anything higher, no deal!

      • -3

With an RRP of 269 which is not going to drop for some time they will have good resell value

  • Does Apple TV support internal VPN config?

    • +1

yes you can use your getflix to watch USA netflix ;P

serious reply: I have one, and yes you can do your own IP settings to set it to use your VPN

    • You can change the DNS, but I don't recall seeing VPN settings.

  • Also, where do you put the discount code when its a BUY NOW?

    • +1
      • Thanks!!

      • Thanks. I updated the bargain link! Easier this way.

        • Cheers.. got one!

    • Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure you enter the code on the payment page, similar to other eBay purchases?

  • Oooh, $4 savings!

    • +3

I know right!! $269 to $265!!! Fortunately it has the 20% offer

    • Many others retailers sell them for more than RRP

  • can this be TRS refund?

    • +3

TRS refund are for purchases > $300. So you would have to combine with something else.

    • +3

      TRS threshold is $300

      • thanks.!~

      • If you're planning on doing TRS and you haven't done it before, give yourself plenty of time. The queue (at Melbourne Airport) can be very long. If you're only just over the $300 limit, then you're only getting $30 back and you have to consider whether standing in a queue for 20-30 minutes is worth $30.

You may get lucky and not travel at a busy time then it's a very quick and easy process - but don't count on it.

  • Nice Thanks

  • one more on TRS, buying from EBAY will it allow TRS?

    • +1

Depends of the seller, u need a tax invoice with GST

  • +1

Couple of points. I purchased through this retailer during the last 20% discount round on eBay.
While Futu Online retails for more than you pay elsewhere, the 20% discount made it effectively cheaper.
They provide a valid tax invoice with ABN so you can claim the gst back through trs. However the date on the invoice is when you paid, not when they shipped or when you received.
The item was delivered within a week.

  • What is the actual, functional difference between the new Apple TVs and the old model which cost less than half the price? I'm genuinely asking.

    • +3

This new one runs a variant of iOS - like the iPhone and iPad. It has an App Store that allows anyone to make apps for the unit. The ABC for example just ported over iView and Aussie streaming platforms such as Stan are on it (as well as Netflix of course - Presto is coming soon). There's also VLC and Plex! So it'll play back practically anything, where as the older Apple TV didn't allow apps - so you had to use the ones pre-installed. It's basically an obsolete product.

      • Would be good if they added VPN client like iPhone or ipads have on iOS for netflix

        • +1

get a getflix or similar then enter the dns manually

        • +2

@jabroni: Recently Netflix started cracking down on SmartDNS services to the point that Uflix has now given up on it and are using VPN technology. I know others like dns4me and gelflix were also having issues and were looking at solution. I hope theres a solution going forward

        • @Gavman: Exactly. I'm looking into the small & cheap VPN wifi routers, like the TL-WR802N that many services suggest as a lasting solution.

        • +1

@Utopian: I know Uflix is doing this mainly cos its a cheaper option. Personally I'm not a fan or the VPN routering option. I hope other services keep working so I don't have to use vpn

        • +1

          @Gavman:
No, it is not cheaper. It is actually more expensive. But it is more resilient than sticking with smartDNS which is why we are doing it that way. It will also work with all devices once we have finished the new workaround.

          Thanks.

        • +1

@uFlix: Thanks for clarifying. From reading the update from Uflix on your website about the new Netflix blocking that has occurred affecting SmartDNS says "The measures taken are extremely difficult to get around and very expensive to do". I took this to mean that persisting with it will cost a lot more than the new VPN solution, perhaps in the long run.

        • @Gavman:
          Hi,

Nope. It means that we are going to do the VPN solution and it will cost more money to do. We were going to stick with the smartDNS method and only proxy the streams, which seems like the logical way of doing it. However after a lot of testing we decided against it as it allows Netflix to pick us up a lot easier. So we have an extremely complex proxy network now which hopefully keeps us off the radar.

If you have any other questions please ask and I will answer them for you all.

          Thanks.

      • So I can use the plex or Vlc ap to stream movies from my Nas??

Anyone know if there is a foxtel go ap???

        • there's a fox sports app. not sure about Go

        • @Gavman:

yeah given foxtel nerfed airplay im interested if they do have a GO app for ATV4

    • +3

I've used both models for quite some time. It's actually a good upgrade if you spend some time watching youtube/other streaming on tv. The main difference is speed, the application lags are gone with the new model. However, the feature that i like the most is being able to fast forward/rewind just by saying things like 'skip 5 minutes/ go back 10 minutes'. It's especially convenient when you watch longer videos such as movies!

  • MAN, that's some money.

I'm clearly not recognising some benefits/features.

    • -2

The main feature is the picture of the apple on it. Otherwise you could buy the same box with the same features and then some for half the price.

      • Any recommendations?

        • -1

Ive got a Beelink R68 Android box that goes pretty well.

      • +2

Its like buying a car.. you can spend half as much on one and it will also come with 4 wheels, seats and a steering wheel. Its what's under the hood and the experience of the ride that counts and what people pay more for. If a cheaper option fulfils the need then by all means.

Feel free to show me a competitor for 106$ that has every single app the Apple TV has, voice control, and a touchpad remote. Go on.

  • Annoying it only supports 1080p/60, not 1080p/24.

    • ?
I could be ENTIRELY off the path… but I would imagine it's saying the max it supports.
Surely, if it can do 60fps, it can do anything less/easier than that.

      • Woulda thought so too. 60 frames is the max

      • ATV4 doesn't support 24hz, everything goes out at 60hz.

If it did, and had HD audio support (see my question below?) Id be on it as the interface is lovely.

  • they raised the prices, it's $223 now instead of 212. scum bags.

  • Does anyone know whether these support DTS MA and True HD?

Can it bitstream to AVR or at least output LPCM?

    I heard they couldn't?
