TN panel, might be wise to check it out somewhere first to see if you can bear before buying, not sure about Kogan's return policy.

  • Also looks like there's no VESA support

Strange because on page 6 of the user manual claims that it's wall mountable. Going by that it does indeed have a VESA mount.

      http://www.aocmonitorap.com/v2015/upload_files/manual/U2879V…

And on the U2879VF page on the AOC Europe web site it says one of the features of the monitor is Vesa Wallmount. So i'd say that it actually has a Vesa mount.

"Features Plug and Play, Multiview, i-Menu, e-Saver, Screen+, Vesa Wallmount"

      http://aoc-europe.com/en/products/u2879vf

And on this web page showing the back of the U2879VF model clearly showing a VESA mount on it. Actually it looks like the stand which comes with the monitor actually is connected to it by Vesa mount. It looks like the standard 100x100mm VESA mount.

      http://4k.com/news/meet-aocs-new-gamer-friendly-4k-monitor-w…

Unless there's two revision versions of the U2879VF one with a Vesa mount and one without?. It's a bit confusing.

      • Yeh this is a tough one. They have the same model numbers.

If you look at the Australian AOC website, it doesn't mention VESA mounting at all.
Although on the European one you linked, it does mention VESA mounting, but then shows the monitor with no VESA mount on the back? Which doesn't really make sense.

That news website is the only one that pictures it with the mounting option.

I'd say that there's more chance that it doesn't have VESA mounting capability. This listing that is - on the basis of there potentially being different revisions.

Edit : only that news website shows it with the mounting option, so it's not official. The manual doesn't seem item specific, and is only general - it doesn't mention anything about VESA mounting.

What's the cheapest 28"+ UHD IPS panel on the market?

  • +2

This ain't for gamers, has over 30ms input lag.

    • It states 1ms?

      • 1ms is the pixel response time.

      • As above that is lcd response time, however it's input lag is over 30ms, no good for serious fps etc gaming.

  • their web site clams . quote

"Ensure all images and video recordings are sharp and well-defined thanks to exceptionally fast 1ms screen response time".

I thought IPS is the screen technology that lags, not TN, and TN is the fast technology hence the trade offs, great view angle with IPS but slow, TN bad view angle but fast.

I'd prefer IPS …. not for gaming I use my screen for cad and photo editing so IPS view angle is the bonus not worried about speed.

    • Input lag and response time are different. You can pretty much get as good gaming performance with IPS, MVA and PLS but with a much better PQ, colour depth and contrast.
Generally its the UHD screens that have the big input lag at the moment, regardless of panel type.

    • IPS is supposed to lag more when it comes to response time, that's why this screen is 1ms while many IPS screens are 10ms, meaning this one 100% isn't IPS with that 1ms response time.
The 30ms lag is input lag, not quite the same as response time and I don't think it's related to the panel(?).

You'd probably be better off with the Samsung LU28E590DS/XY from Kogan instead for $5 more. Only 1 left at the time of writing.

  • AOC monitors are good, we have 100+ pc's at work and we've always stuck to this brand for price and quality, AOC normally last for years and years.
    It's a 1ms response monitor.

  • Bought this about a month ago and pretty happy with it so far. Haven't played with all the seeting yet but looking great out of the box.

From my understanding, the panel itself is used in many 28" including Samsung ones. Try the link below for some reviews

No VESA support and not a 30ms input lag as mentioned above. I'm playing FC4 and Batman Arkham Knight at 2560x1440 @ 60Hz using DP with a GTX970 and been getting around 50 FPS.

    • not a 30ms input lag as mentioned above. I'm playing FC4 and Batman Arkham Knight at 2560x1440 @ 60Hz using DP with a GTX970 and been getting around 50 FPS

Input lag has nothing whatsoever to do with FPS.

  • have one of these screens.
paid 600$ about 3-4 months ago.

first AOC monitor ever and so far have not noticed anything different in daily use.

if i could go back i'd get a better 2k screen instead.

    • I've got a Dell U2713H which is basically IPS 2560x1440 with some nice features. I upgraded from a 24 inch 1080p monitor and honestly I miss gaming on it, it broke. Gaming might catch up to people on 27 inch or for those with 2560x1440 but I think most games are made for 24 inch 1080p. If I could pick again I'd probably just get that with maybe 3D and/or 144hz but definitely IPS and with a good warranty.

      • ive got 2 x 27 inch 1080 spare, ill swap you :)

as i would disagree, specially MMOs - at 2k are beautiful.

i think 24 inch is a bit too small but than again i was always a high res fan.

        • I'd be happy with a 24 in 1440p as long as everything scaled exactly as it is, which it doesn't. Like for example mouse shrinks when I'm playing DOTA and the IPS is great for movies but I hardly play anything over 720p anyway and if it is it's only 1080p. Maybe I'm just suffering from greener on the other side syndrome but I don't think the monitor was worth the $550 I paid for it when I could easily get a 24 inch, 1080p, IPS with good warranty for probably $250.

        • @voolish:

yea. but even without resolution i think 27 inch screen is minimum, even at 1080p.

ha, the scaling you described i have never even noticed lol. honestly, i just cant believe you miss your 24 inch after buying that DELL one.
you can always run it at 1080p only?
its a nice screen you have!

i only wish i bought a screen like yours instead of the AOC 4k monitor - 4k in windows blows.

  • Does anyone know if my graphics card, a Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X would handle this with gaming on high settings. Mostly Battlefield 3 and that type of game.

    Thanks

    • It's probably one of the only cards that can. I would say yes. Just be careful whenever you buy a 4k monitor you want to make sure it can handle single-stream rather than having to deal with multi-stream. I've seen a lot of other people have issues because of it. Stay with Display Port it was basically made for greater than 1080p.

    • i play BF3 on this screen at 2k,

ultra settings on a GTX680 4GB which is inferior to your card.

  • Thanks Voolish. Unfortunately none of that actually meant anything to me. Any way you could simplify that for me?

Or even recommend a monitor in the same price range and size that would work.

    Thanks

    • Some older monitors require 2 HDMI cables (sometimes a DP cable) to achieve 4K resolution, but often your computer would recognise this as 2 screens even though you have only 1, which causes problems.
Don't think this is happening anymore with new displays so just don't worry about it, recent 4K (UHD) monitors would work just fine.
Though if you play games at 4K resolution, don't expect running at 60fps. My 7970 can only get 20-30fps when set at 4k… so I use window mode and set at 2k resolution instead…

    • not sure if this is relevant,
but the only issue i had with this 4k screen is getting a cable that will support 4k resolution,
you need a good quality cable - crappy ones will not sync at 4k.

i ended up getting one on Ebay for 21$,
but in the end i stayed with HDMI and 2k resolution, even in windows 4k is too much (for me).

      • HDMI or DP?
HDMI doesn't do 4K 60P (only 30P), version 2.0 does but it requires both the mon and the graphics card to support HDMI2.0.
Your card doesn't support HDMI 2.0 so maybe that's why you had problem with 4K?

        • HDMI, duh

  • I see, thanks for explaining that.

    I don't think a 4k is for me. I think I'll look for a good 2k or 1440p 27 inch monitor. Any suggestions?

    • +1

I've also been on the look out for a good 27" 144Hz monitor for FPS gaming. Hard to find at a decent price!

      Suggestions welcome…

    • Just keep an eye on the Dell refurb site, really good monitors come up with 1 year warranty instead of 3 which includes replacement if only a single pixel is dead/white. They are basically half price.
