    crazy good deal

    • +4

It's a good deal indeed, this was offered few months ago which is when I signed it up as a new customer. However, let me warn you with their 4G coverage. I would prefer to have the Vodafone one when it comes to 4G coverage in my area, especially when I am in the train at the T4 line (Huntsville), this is when I use the data intensively but the signal is bad for me and when I was with Vodafone, I dont have such problem.

      • +1

cwtick I am on the same line with you, getting on at Town Hall and off at Hurstville. My Vodafone 4G and 3G will drop once pass redfern and won't connect back on stably until I get off at Hurstville…….

        • I have been using Vodafone ever since Three is gone. the reception with Vodafone was good at T4 line even in tunnel. FYI I am using iPhone

        • I've been getting dropouts while going past Redfern on optus since at least 2011..there's just something about that place

        • @tony abbott: It is the poor people. Not content to just steal your tax dollars to fund their dole bludging, now they use up all the bandwidth.

Gotta organise their drug deals and pokies.

I am joking, of course. :)

There are a few spots in Melbourne where my 3G disappears on the train, and they are very random.

      • Yes I'm on the same line too and was experiencing similar issues when I was using my old elephone p7000.

Since upgrading to the Panasonic cm1 that uses the 2600mhz band, reception is much better.

        • +1

Please tell me an elephone is what I think it is!!!!

    • Anyone knows if Vodafone will beat/price match this deal ?

      • +1

They will match any advertised offer, according to my experience with them.

        • Walk in or call them ? My experience with walk ins are so bad as half the time they tell you to call the call centre. And when you call customer service, you on hold for at least 20-30min

        • @nzthunderboy:
Definitely call them, I know it's a long wait but it's the same with all telcos. It might be worth the wait, has definitely been in my case

  • +4

Do they still do the 10 off for tpg customers?

    • Anyone knows? I have three phones with TPG.

      • If only it was $10 off per service!

    • I am on this plan they also take $10 off if you have optus broadband

Also if u sign up two phones same name u can share the data I.e 19gb on one and 1gb on other if u want

      • how does the TPG broadband discount work?
my landlord signed the TPG broadband and I got the account name and password, am I able to get the discount from that?

    • That one ended back in January

  • +6

Some inner west area in sydney I just can't stand Optus with their poor reception, even Vodafone is better at some point. Otherwise, pretty good deal regardlessly.

    • +1

Optus could offer unlimited downloads in many parts of Sydney and you'd still end up on Telstra for the coverage.

  • +21

Amaysim are looking less value as each day goes by.

  • +4

i have this deal but get an extra $10 off as my home phone/internet is with optus

    • hi jimmy, does that mean you pay $30 p/month or your discount is off the full price ($60) ?

      • +2

It's $30 p/m. Note that it can only be applied to one service if you decide to sign up multiple plans.

  • +3

Pity the international minutes don't cover my home country :(

    • Same here… Currently with TPG; do you know any other good deal?

      • +4

I think TPG is best for international calls anywhere.

      • +1

VF is better if you bundle two SIM only plans - $50 plan (unlimited calls and text plus 11 countries and around 8 or 12gb of data) with the second linked SIM on $30 will inherit the primary plan with shared data!!

        • I love the vodafone plan for the unlimited calls and better data speed than optus. But this is also a good deal. I bargained my 12 months plan for 45$

        • @super bargain:

I hope Voda match this plan as I use their Roam Like Its Home feature when travelling overseas.

    • +16

It's hard to find a mobile that covers Krypton

    • +1

No telecom operator is offering the deal that VF offered last year around july with 300min to any country with 4GB data all for $35/month and no contract…

      • Still on that plan (w/300 minutes anywhere overseas), but contracted as I got it for $29.95 per month.

  • +1

Beats the recent $40 7.5 GB Telstra deal in terms of data offered and unlimited calls, but the 12 months of AFL Live and Apple Music + Telstra network coverage level the playing field.

    • +21

Telstra network coverage isn't exactly a selling point at the moment haha

  • I signed up too, was on iinet so no difference except the extra data for the little increase.
I was told by someone (not Optus) that the coverage is better in Perth CBD than Telstra's
Well it was yesterday that's for sure…

My only issue in porting was iinet kept charging me for the service too. Took them 3 months to understand…

But might port the wife's over now the deal is back…

    Thanks OP…

  • +5

    My waiting has paid off.

  • +3

Does Optus offer free data Sundays when they stuff up? :p

    • +3

They stuff up so many times which is pathetic
My home cable connection varies from 0.5 mb to 80mb
5 outages are ordinary in a week

      • Mobile not internet.

        • Yes,yes I know 😀
Just talking about the standards they have

Even TPG were better than them …

      • You are scaring me now. I have recently signed up for Optus NBN.

Planning to ditch Belong which is slow as a snail.

        • They are just retailers in that case
Only thing they can't stuff up is activation And in long term AAA

  • If only you could add a phone.

    • +3

You can. Call or talk to them on live chat. I pay $31/month for my Note 4 plus the $30 SIM-only plan.

      • you can do that?! be on a sim-only plan and they throw in a phone??

      • Online Chat wouldn't help, I might need to go instore.

        • I did it over live chat - the Optus employee even recommended it to me. Maybe try another person.

        • I just upgraded my plan to this deal and found this in the terms and conditions:

          Mobile handset
You need a compatible mobile handset. You can either:
          · Bring your own handset. To check it’s compatible and set up to make
the most of our network go to optus.com.au/compatibility
          · Purchase a handset from Optus. You can pay for it in full on your
next bill or pay it off in 12 monthly repayments.

It's definitely still possible, you might just have to negotiate if you'd prefer to pay it off over 24 months rather than 12.

    • Is that a $31/month for 2 years?

      • Yes.

  • Dang, I got 7gb last month - good deal!

  • +2

Why does it shows $60 when I add to cart? It doesn't change to $40 even on the screen just before placing the order…

    • The message "$20 monthly discount will appear from your first bill" didn't show for me in FF (with ad blockers etc installed ) but did in IE !? It's shows in between 'Plan payments' and 'byo triple sim payments'. Also in FF when I changed to keep my existing number it added another sim to the cart !

Very dodgy, should be showing in the cart. What recourse do I have if they start charging $60 (besides taking a screen shot ) ?

    • T&C are good to read sometimes ! good deal though.

    • +1

If you look at the order confirmation it show's the Dec15 $60 plan. I got this offer back as a new customer a few months back and they recently migrated me onto this Dec15 plan automatically.

Can confirm that the plan has built in $20 credit that applies automatically (also shows on the CIS document on the page, which is what they should use at your agreement).

  • +1

So weird how there's only a little bit of text to say you'll be credited $20 per month and the total shows $50

  • +1

I'd like to take up one of these Optus deals, but their coverage and data speeds are just average in the areas where I need them most.

  • Just signed up my parents to both postpaid $50 sim. Wonder if I can port them to this plan

  • What happens after 12 months does the price stay at $40 or does it go back up to $60?

    • -2

It's always $60. You will no longer receive the $20 credit.

      • +4

"Along with all the other neat stuff in our 12 month SIM Only plan, we'll give you a $20 discount every month for life of your plan"

?? what are you talking about?

        • Chat confirmed its $20 for life but you are locked in for 12 months min,

        • @brent3000: Does this mean its $40 forever? Or only $40 for the life of the plan (i.e. 12 months), then it reverts to $60 per month?

        • @brent3000: well this is confusing, chat said same to me but when I asked to check he came back and said $20 discount ends in 12 months

        • @dynamite:

Untill its canceled, then you lose the $20

        • @brent3000: I was told the discount ends in 12 months, then price goes back up to $60

        • @adr8:
Well good thing I have the chat logs for when 12 months comes around,

"Renae G:You'll pay $40 till you change plan.."

"Today I’m ordering for you the $60 My Plan Plus 12 month SIM Only Plan with $20 discount per
month for the life of the plan. This makes the total minimum cost $480 over the 12 months. If you
cancel before the 12 months you will no longer be entitled to the $20 discount. Prior to agreeing
today I recommend that you look over the Critical Information Summary that outlines important
information about your plan. Once you comfortable let me know that you agree to these terms and
          we’ll get the order arranged"

        • @adr8:
Key thing "$20 off for the life of your plan' is even listed on the front page of the BYO plans,

After 12 months the plan does not die, plans live until the carrier kills them and moved you off,

        • @adr8: That's what I was told too hence my comment above.

        • @brent3000: yeah the chat team said the same to me but I insisted they check as I heard otherwise, he came back a few minutes later saying he checked with their billing team which stated discount ends in 12 months.

        • @brent3000: Don't trust chat logs. On a different issue, I had them tell me one thing and signed up (I screen captured the conversaation) and quoted them later but they can only go via the fine print which I hadn't bothered to interpret correctly.

        • @Popo:
You need to learn to fight, my other account was moved to the $50 plan with 10GB data (which was for new only) and they said 'too bad so sad' I said 'bad luck you said' they said 'lets review' and I got a text the following week with my data adjustment.

So fine-print is not final, Bait-and-switch trumps it

        • I'm still confused. the $20 off is for the term of the contract only? so after 12 months its gone?

Or the $20 discount is for the life of the Plan, so even after the 12 month contract, I'll still be getting $20 off beyond 12 months?

      • +3

I'm speaking to the customer service. I asked and told her to confirm with me regarding the discount, and she insisted that it will stay at 40 dollars after 12 months. I am an existing customer so I bundled it with my home broadband, and applied a uni student code to have another 10% discount on top of that… So that would come down to 27 dollars a month I believe.

        • Can u share the student discount please?

        • @ragms:

The student discount is a unique code provided when you activate the promotion in myunidays.com. It's a one off use code. Have you tried to sign up for an account with myunidays?

        • Nice one. I actually think (and hope for you) that it might be $26:

        • @giles:

For Optus, I've only ever seen them take the $x amount off before the x%. Pretty much to prevent something going free :p.

        • @chuns: That would be smart business practice! In this case, though, the promotion explicitly lists the price as $36, not "10% off what you would have otherwise paid".

That's not to say it doesn't actually work in practice how you've described :) But the promotion would be misleading

        • @giles: I agree. Looks like a number of people have got it for $27. Curious to hear if someone managed to score it for $26 instead though :p.

  • I keep getting this error:
Expression termsAndConditions is undefined on line 44, column 102 in frontend/lib/shoppingCartPresentation_parts/orderCaptureFinishTermsAndConditions.ftl.

    • Same, tried twice, went through online chat in the end

  • 13 days to get the deal

    • +5

That's good because you can wait to see whether Vodafone or Telstra introduce any new offers before this one ends.

      • +2

IMO, no need to wait for their promo, you can just call Voda CS(not sure about Telstra) and ask if they can match the current offer from Optus. I've had good experience with Voda matching their competitors' offers. YMMV

        • Have anyone actually done this? My plan is finishing up next month, am thinking of just walking to a Voda branch, pay off the remaining handset amount and ask them if they can match the Optus deal.

Or does it need to be a call to the customer service?

        • @kevinMario: I did asked Voda if they could do a better deal for me as my contract has expired this month. The best they could offer was $ 40/month and I would get 10Gb data, unlimited local calls and sms, unlimited calls to 10 selected countries and 300 mins of Int'l calls.

I didn't take up the offer as I could get a further discount with Optus with my Unidays code ($ 36/month for 10Gb data). I asked Voda if they could go down to $ 35/month but they said no, so I walked away.

I just called the 1555 number and queried my termination date. If they ask for a reason, just tell them you're thinking to port out to another provider. Ask to talk to retention team, don't try to haggle with the CS team in overseas.

  • Is it there is a new player coming? I heard that on the news may be the reason why they keep dropping the price.

    • +11

Is it called dickogan Smith online?

  • Is this the same deal they offered a few months ago?

  • I got a good deal last year during the click frenzy sale. $60 for half price including 7gb data and unlimited international also got $10 off coming from tpg. So cost is $20 for 6 months and then $50 after that.

That deal has a couple of months left. Is it possible to move to this one…I have 6 lines all up.
