        You forgot to put your referral link

        Edit: No up vote for me? I helped you out…

          I think we should marke EC as Groupon Rep from now on!

          Referral man never forgets!
          Referral link shows automatically after 5 positive votes!

        • @Neoika: He up voted your comment, maybe thats a sign he is?

          EC could you confirm if this is true?

        • +3

          @King Tightarse: I have noticed that some voters appear to be upvoting every single post by other posters. Now I have nothing against that in itself, but it does raise issues with the voting system criteria to reach the front page.

          I believe on average it takes 15 votes to reach the front page, many of the widely known posters have any where from 2-10+ people who vote unconditionally and thats without ascertaining if its even a bargain. What this shows me is that the voting system is flawed and is exploited a fair bit.

          This has a multiplier effect where this group of voters spur on the masses to up vote because it confirms that the deal is a bargain when in reality its not in many cases.

          @GameChanger: cant believe i never considered this before….i mean i know that eveyone votes for their favourite posters - i do that too - but it does raise the issue that perhaps reform for the voting system is worth considering, especially in relation to the accompanying issues or referral and affiliation

          @GameChanger:
          I think Ozbargain has grown in number considerably and perhaps some of those rules need revising to reflect this. Neil mentioned an upcoming site discussion thread here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/239480#comment-3548541
          in relation to referral farming and other issues - yet to see it emerge, but I think your point and quite a few others should get an airing.

        • @GameChanger:

          20 votes to the front page. See here

        • @King Tightarse:

          yet to see it emerge,

          I mentioned in less than a day ago as something we've been working on in relation to helping people understand referral system especially as it relates to 3rd party sites. Hope to get it out this week and you can all ask questions and give feedback.

        • @neil: I remember having this discussion last year some what recall their was a formula and 15 votes is possible; perhaps I recall incorrectly.

          Any ways I think the 80/20 principle effect still applies here; people who vote unconditionally for their favorite voters are influencing the deal. 20 votes isn't a great number and this is especially for the posters that have a huge fan base.

        • This is a bargain site where we should focus on the bargains. Having a go at the OP for posting a deal is non conducive to a friendly and positive environment. Let's keep referral discussion (and any other site related discussions) to the site discussion forum. There are a number of open referral post threads or start your own.

        • +2

          @neil:
          Agree Neil, but it's obviously emerged as an issue that needs addressing and now spilling over into the mainstream. Near daily posts of the same "nothing" bargains that certainly appear to be only referral farming = getting ridiculous. Will look with interest at that thread once it's ready.

        • +4

          @neil: I wasn't having a go specifically at the OP, just noticed a fair number of his bargains getting up voted quite quickly. Of course this is no issue but some of the 'bargains' are very ordinary especially from the likes of groupon.

          From time to time I believe the deal comments is the best place to talk about the issues because it allows more of the Ozbargain community to become aware because the site discussion forum only interests the users who are really invested in this site.

          It would be nice if the site discussion forum was advertised in the top right hand box, so we can actually get more responses and see feedback from other users.

          From what I have seen when many of these issues are risen in the deal section there is fair bit of up votes on the comments. This suggests that many users who wouldn't normally visit the forums feel the same way.

          @neil:

          GCs point is brilliant in its simplicity - In fact i feel stupid for not making it myself.

          GC is not having a go at OP per se , but at the voting system itself. KIng TA has also made a valid point in the traffic now on the site too

          Well done guys!

          @GameChanger: more good point GC, you are on fire tonight buddy!

          King TA - i too have referenced the upcoming site discussion in other posts - its worth nothing that anyone interesred in seeing Neils posts referring to this have to uncollapse clarkys thread at the top of page adter clicking on the orange link
