Optus SIM Only Plan w/ 10GB Data - $36p/m for UNiDAYS Members ($26 w/ Broadband Discount)

1570

Browsing around on UNiDAYS and found this ripper deal. 12 month plan and identical to the $40 plan but with UNiDAYS, students get an extra 10% off bringing it down to only $36. Includes a whopping 10GB of data, unlimited calls/texts and 300 international minutes. I don't think you can find any plan for this price with these inclusions for cheaper. Total $432 over 12mths. Please note you must be a student to take advantage of this deal; UNiDAYS will provide you with a code to use online, or you need to show your UNiDAYS ID when you sign up in store. Has been mentioned in comments here, but I thought it deserved its own post.

Edit: works with the $10p/m broadband discount confirmed by @maik

10% discount also applies to phones with plans as well.

How do I get 10GB? Looks like it is 7GB for $36?

      • +1

Thanks. I missed that column, saw the left one and was confused.

    • 12 Months Contract, $60 plan which is now $40, then minus 10% = $36

      • Does it say if a month is 28 or 30 days?

The critical info link seems to be broken for me.

        • +3

This isn't prepaid. This is a 12 months contract. So in a year, you will pay 12x$36.

  • +1

Hmmm I got this plan when it was $40, and when combined with Optus Broadband from home, it came down to $30.

Now I just need to try to use the 10GB of data a month. Last month I only used 6GB and thats with listening to Pandora for most of the day at work!

    • Doesn't SIM only plan offer data roll over like optus prepaid ones?

      • Nope :(

        • :( I was thinking of getting this, but no data roll makes it slightly unattractive for me. :(

        • +2

          @Oversimplified:

10Gb is still amazing… don't need the rollover to be honest

        • @BlackVY: True that, that said, there are moments where I require that additional 5GB from last month. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

      • afaik, only virgin does that

        • Optus prepaid offers data roll over, it was definitely after Virgin introduced it though (I am on Optus prepaid right now) :)

        • +1

          @Oversimplified:

Sorry, i meant only virgin offers it on postpaid plans.

        • @cheesecactus: Ohhh, I might look into Virgin one then :) Thanks :)

        • @Oversimplified:
Yup, I was on Virgin mobile before going to Optus, but didn't it only roll over for 1 or 2 months? You couldn't carry over your data for more than that?

        • @BlackVY: I think you can't, that said since it's still double data month, most of the time, when I recharge, left over data from the month beforehand pushes the data to the maximum data you could have with data rollover (15GB).

    • Why not post that as a seperate deal? It beats this deal, or even better post a deal that combines both discounts.

    • Damn, I always need more than 10GB! Though I have no broadband due to the fact that we rent.

      • Have you thought about Optus home wireless broadband 50GB for $70 pm

        • Thanks, though they wouldn't include the text/calls and is over my budget :(

  • +3

12 month contract :( Should put that in the title.

    • +3

Same deal, but the student discount is not mentioned in the original description.

        • +22

I would have missed this discount if it hadn't been posted as I rarely go back and look at old deals.

        • +2

There are still two more variations of the original deal which have not been posted. There is the $10 discount for Optus customers with an eligible service, then there is also the $10 discount with the student discount combined.

        • +3

          @unity1:

There'll be a variation for pensioner discounts on each of those deals, so better make another 3 posts then to cover all bases…

        • @unity1:

So based on what you said are these two stackable?

        • @nightelves: Yes, it has been mentioned here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3552866/redir and by others too.

        • @jv: How much do pensioners get? Same as students?

    • +4

OP specifically mentioned that deal in their post. This is kind of a deal within a deal.

      • +5

        Deal-ception?

  • +1

Thanks OP that is a great deal. Especially since I didn't know about Unidays.. just signed up to Unidays. I hope it hands around for another 1.5 months, I always pay my phone 12 months in advance and it is due early may.

    • Damn, bit the bullet and transferred anyway even though I have 1.5 months to go. The deal was just too good.

Anybody has a code i can use?

    • It requires logging into a university account, the code doesn't work unless you are signed in either.

    • Yep, I've PM'd it.
      Go to http://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub/student-phone-plans/?s…
it will ask for the code on the next page, you don't need to be logged in etc.

I got a second code by using the Student Portal and the Alternative registration methods.

  • Dammit I signed up to the old $60 a month plan….grr. Any ideas on how to potentially get this deal? Unfortunately I have a handset though which might make it trickier to change plans?

  • +2

Anyone managed to stack this with the bundle discount to get it to $26 or $27?

    • +5

Yes, I got the bundle discount and I double checked that my UniDays promocode worked. So I'm going to assume $27 but I never really got a confirmation of how much, either way, it's only a dollar (which might not go down well with most OzBargainers) :P

      • +1

Can the stacking be done online or do you need to contact customer service?

        • +1

I don't know, I was on the live chat the whole time with them. Probably best to speak to them (or livechat) so you can mention your bundle discount, don't count on it being automatically applied!

        • +2

I did mine thru online chat. $26 for 10 gb after student discount and $10 bundle discount

  • Dam. I still have 3 months left on my old plan. Im still paying 500mb for $35.

    • +2

If you are already with Optus, give them a call & see if you can re-contract on a new plan. They will often do this close to your expiry to stop you from churning.

  • anyone know if optus have another plan around $12-20 sim only that i could share this data with (eg 1 x 10 gig plan with unlimited call, 1 x 0.5mb plan with some calls = 10.5gb across the two…?) Not sure if that is how it works…

    • -1

Yes, you can have up to 5 devices sharing the combined total limits including ipads etc.

  • Do you just need an edu.au domain to sign up?

    • If that's the case people can use their alumni accounts!

      • +2

I used mine and it worked…

    • For signing up to UNiDAYS you use any email you want, but it redirects you to a login page for the university/institution that you select. You then have to authorise the university to share student status with UNiDAYS. The code is given after you login.

    • +1

Needed to log in via uni portal for me

  • i only want something like $15/m for 2-3gb and no contract.

    • Something like the vaya power plus plans would be suitable, I'm currently on vaya which runs off optua networks. About $16 for 1.5gb and $650calls/SMS or $18 for 2gb and $650 calls/SMS. No contracts, just month to month direct debit payments.

      • +1

        does it use 4g network?

        • Yeah that includes 4G. Good coverage in my areas at least

        • @cytotoxic t: thanks

  • Can anyone PM me a code? thanks

  • me too,,please pm me a code..thanks!

    • Sent.

  • Just signed up yesterday and forgot the code. Contacting optus via live chat to rectify this now.

    • How did you go with your rectification ?

      • +1

Confirmed the discount! Said that I attempted to add my code during upgrade and thought it was in.
She (grabbed her name and ID) confirmed that I have it on my account. If it's not on the next bill, I'll say that "Name and Employee ID confirmed that I had this discount, that call was recorded too".

        I should be golden.

        • +1

          No, U R EPIC

        • @MITM:

    • Sent!

    • Got a deluge of emails. Brrennnn sent the email first. Sorry to those who missed out.

      • Did you mean PM ?

        • Well the PMs turn into emails as Ozbargain emails but I did mean PMs.

        • @machej:
Now you have select email list.

  • May I have a code please? Thank you

  • I need a code too! realy appreciate if I can get one.

  • Could anyone please send me a code too? Thanks heaps!

  • Another code request please. Cheers :)

  • another "me too" request… if anyone has a code will be greatly appreciated….

    • This is like usenet circa 1999. ;-)

  • +2

$26 for 10gb of data. Couldn't ask for more. Confirmed with online chat that it is for life of your plan provided you have a valid optus service

    • how can you make this $26/month? can you please explain further?,thanks

      • As per the title:

$36p/m for UNiDAYS Members ($26 w/ Broadband Discount)

    • Thank you for confirming that!

  • Can I start my plan whenever I want or do I need to start soon?

Not planning on getting a new phone or plan until late May …

  • +1

is there a limit to how many services you can have with them using the student discount?

    • Would like to know this too - interested in getting 3 mobiles at the $26/month price

    • had a talk with chat team, max 1 mobile service.

  • Can I please have the code too? Thanks!

    • codes are unique and redeemable only once.

      • Yup, if any kind soul out there would be able to spare one, that would be awesome!

  • I was wondering, if I've already got an Optus prepaid plan/number and I am a uni student, can I use my existing number with this deal? Or I have to sign up with a new number to get this plan? Can anyone help, please?

    • Upgrade your plan to this deal to keep your number.

      • I think I read someone saying that you have to have a new number or something like that (probably in the other thread). I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Thanks

        • Actually I think this is for Postpaid plans. Someone may confirm or you could go to Chat for the answer.

        • @MITM: Ta. Will try chat.

        • I ported my number over from virgin

        • @Medlee: I have just been checking their site and you're right, you can keep your existing number. Yey! Thanks

  • Can part time students get this offer?

    • Yep, just need a .edu email for Unidays.

      • +1

Teachers too have .edu domains. Any reason this won't work?
