Optus SIM Only Plan w/ 10GB Data - $36p/m for UNiDAYS Members ($26 w/ Broadband Discount)

1570

Browsing around on UNiDAYS and found this ripper deal. 12 month plan and identical to the $40 plan but with UNiDAYS, students get an extra 10% off bringing it down to only $36. Includes a whopping 10GB of data, unlimited calls/texts and 300 international minutes. I don't think you can find any plan for this price with these inclusions for cheaper. Total $432 over 12mths. Please note you must be a student to take advantage of this deal; UNiDAYS will provide you with a code to use online, or you need to show your UNiDAYS ID when you sign up in store. Has been mentioned in comments here, but I thought it deserved its own post.

Edit: works with the $10p/m broadband discount confirmed by @maik

10% discount also applies to phones with plans as well.

      See EPICSALEDAY's comment above.

      • thanks for the tip. i tried EPICSALETIMES approach, however the live chat rep said he lodged a form and will call me back within 48-72 hours. fingers crossed.

  • neat

  • Can someone please send me a code? :)

  • Can someone please PM me a code if possible? Thanks in advance!

Hey I just entered the student code in right now and it shows up as $34/month, so I think it's 10% off from the price of the original plan :)

    • yes getting the same $34 i wish i had broadband also from optus

    • Came up as $34 for me too :)

    • Same here so essentially making it $24 a month with the bundled discount. That is an absolute steal. Also confirmed that this is correct with Live Chat.
Was contemplating the Virgin sim plans with roll over but at $24 a month it is a way better deal.

  • Will the further 10% apply if you already have an existing Optus mobile plan? Or do you have to have a current Optus broadband service?

    • i believe broadband service only

  • I'm also fishing for an unwanted voucher if anyone has a spare. Would be eternally grateful.

  • Could someone pls send me a code too? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

  • Does anyone know how many $10 discounts we can claim per broadband connection with optus

    • Just one, unfortunately. (I was wondering too)

  • Thanks for making it a thread! :)

  • It will be great if anyone can PM me a code. Thank you very much

  • can anyone please share a code, thankful to you guys as always

  • Would love a code too please if anyone has one to spare - many thanks

  • Is there a simple $5 mnth to mnth sim only?
Would that count as an existing bundle discount of $10?

    • Can only get $10 discount if you bundle with fixed broadband service

  • Help, it's showing me as 60 bucks a month, not 40 a month. Has it expired for that bit?

    • Ah I found it. But when I add to cart, it changes to 60 a month. And only 20 bucks off first month. ????

      • Ahh. I have to swipe more right. It'd third column

  • $24 dollars a month! Awesome deal! Just signed up.

    • How are you getting $24 a month?

      • When you apply the uni code it is actually 10% off the original $60 so $6 off instead of $4 on the check out page. So $60 - $20 (online flash sale) - $6 (unicode) - $10 (discount bundle) = $24 a month.

        • I have tried to get an end result of $24/month through Optus and UNiDAYS websites, and it's not happening. The best is $60 - $20 - $4 - $10 = $26. So please share how you managed to get it down to $24? Is anyone else unable to get it down to $24 in which case maybe they have changed the calculator to only allow 10% on $40 = $4?

        • @goodcopbadcop:

Not sure what I did differently to others? Used chrome to order and stated I was an existing member? Other than that there was nothing I really did to make the discount $6 instead of $4. $24 in saving = 1 month free if you can get the plan at $24. I am yet to see my bill but I've contacted live chat twice which confirmed that it'd be $24. Fingers crossed.

  • Would love a unidays code if some kind soul would like to provide please.

    • oh hi.. umm me too pls? .. will provide karma points in return…. man i feel ashamed of myself right now

The salesperson signed me up to the wrong plan, absolutely terrible service from Optus. Instead of signing me up for the $40 flash sale plan and then applying the 10% student discount and $10 bundle discount resulting in $26, they put me on the $60 plan, resulting in my total cost being $44 a month. The salesperson thought that when I said the $40 plan, that I meant the $60 plan with discounts applied, which is not even close. $40 =/= $44

    • Not surprised Nero took me a good hour to sign up via live chat and I'm still very worried that the staff signed me up to the wrong plan.

Can anyone confirm for those who got it processed correctly were they signed up to the $60 plan but with $20 discount monthly applied - that's what the salesperson who dealt with me said but it worries me that that's not recorded on the Critical Information Summary or any of the plan details - did save a copy of the chat where she confirmed the $20 discount applied though

Can confirm that it is the $60 My Plan Plus 12M Sim Only which is what shows up in my account. The CIS ID: 800357 specifically states the $20 monthly discount in the first paragraph.

adr8 you're amazing! Need better glasses & to not make decisions when hungry (hahha) - also noticed upon better read that the minimum term cost is $480 ie $40 x 12 months :)
fingers crossed my 10% unidays & $10 broadband disc was applied properly THANKS OP again!

  • PSA - for any iphone users with Visual Voicemail, was using my Visual Voicemail madly today and remembered why even with the $10 broadband disc I never signed up to Optus in the past - there's no Visual Voicemail with Optus (they've been saying they'll take note of customer requests to support it since 2011 & done nothing - see here and here

Kind of regret taking up this deal now as the options are to pay monthly rates for VM to SMS or VM to MMS services :/ damn being spoilt by free Visual Voicemail with other providers

  • I used to be on the $50 BYO SIM month to month for 10 GB. I signed up for this deal and now I have 20 GB.

    • As in you have 20gb per month? I am also joining from he $50 plan.

UNidays has a referral code that gives $2.00 credit for each friend you refer. OP should add this into the post…

  • Finally folded and purchased this. Also managed to get a few $5 (one off charge) data share sims too. For those that have the data share sim, is a single sim that comes in 3 sizes?

    • Yes, they came on a plastic sheet where you could press out which size you need. Example here — http://www.optus.com.au/business/support/answer/what-type-of…

      • Thanks, that's perfect. It was hard work getting those $5 sims.

        • same reason why i'll probably take up this offer :)

          (save telstra 7GB $40 for another time/phone/tablet)

how was it hard work to get the $5 data share sims?

promotional $60 My Plan Plus 12M SIM Only plan with an automated $20 monthly credit

        • @tonester:

Not too bad. I went to an optus store, asked for 2 blank sim cards for data sharing. Went home, spent about 30mins on the phone while they activated the cards, added it to my plan and was up and running.

Feels like i'm ripping them off; about time :) $34 a month for 10gb, shared across multiple devices. Have telstra cable so can't get it for $24 :(

        • @tonester: I had tried a few times to get the $5 sims through live chat but they just said it could not be done as the offer had expired.

So next I called up sales and told them I was after the this plan but would only take it up if they included the $5 sims. I explained that others had been able to get it but live chat said it was not possible.

The CSR took down my details and about an hour later I received a phone call from an Australian gentleman. He basically told me "he could do things others couldn't" and set up everything over the phone for me.

I couldn't have been happier. Fantastic service from Optus.

  • Looking for a unidays code if anyone still has one :)

  • A Unidays code would be super excellent!

  • Thanks OP +1 vote for you! I was paying $29 per month on Virgin for 3.2 GB and 450 bucks calls. This deal is much better. Noting the $5 or free data sims at an Optus shop, I'll get a couple for the kids phones and share the 10GB.

  • First post, so hi! I signed up to this the other day, does anyone else's contract say $700 over 12 months ($60 * 12 - $20)? No mention of the student discount or $20 off per month as per my online order. I was told over the phone it would be the $432 as expected but a bit worried this is not what it says in the contract.

  • Just signed up! Thanks OP!

  • The website shows $40/month and with 10% discount is $36/month. How do you guys get $34/month?

  • Would like a Unidays code if someone still has it! Thank you!

  • Has any one got a spare unidays code?

  • Mega karma points exchanged for a Unidays code if anyone can help out. Many thanks!.

  • I applied this deal/plan on the last day before expiry (31 March) and I haven't still got confirmation. I called Optus today and I was told there has been a huge demand for the plan so it's still pending and I'll receive a confirmation email as soon as it's processed.

Anyone else got the plan already?

    • Yep, I'm on it but haven't got any bills yet, hopefully they don't screw up the discount.

      • Thanks for the reply, mate.

I think I've screwed it up for myself. When I was filling in the details during the online application, on the employment section I've put in that I am student and left out mentioning my casual/part-time job. After like 5 days they sent me an email asking for either a passport or a Medicare card scan and I emailed them back and I haven't heard from them since. I called them today and the foreign girl on the phone told me they're going through a lot of applications and credit check and as soon as that's confirmed then I'll receive an email. I am kicking myself for not addressing my job. $36 for 10GB, plus unlimited local calls and SMS, as well as 300 minutes of some selected international calls a month is to die for. Hope they won't cancel it.

        • +1

I doubt your job is gonna affect it, I didn't even need to submit anything other than my passport number (foreign), my friend got the email requesting for passport as well but he scanned and sent it, activated today and went through fine.
Just give them a few days, Optus is a bit slow.

        • @clse945111: Ta. Hope it will come through on Monday.

    • I'm still waiting for mine as well. Status on the tracking page still says "We've received your order. We'll begin processing it ASAP"

      • Fingers crossed, mate. Hope we won't miss out on this.

I just noticed I'm being credited $30/month instead of $20. Is this happening for anyone else?

    • haven't received bill yet - nice :)

      • +3

It appears $30 is being inexplicably credited to my account at the end of each month in addition to the $24 credit which is deducted from my bill (which includes the $4 student discount). I have no idea why this is happening but I'm not going to complain about paying $6 a month for 10GB of data.

    • You got very lucky, I had the opposite luck, last week I got my first bill after signing up for the $40 plan and applying the student discount and broadband bundle discount (to bring it to $26), turns out Optus didn't apply any of the discounts, claimed I signed up for the $60 plan. Took me 30 minutes to get them to apply the $20 discount to bring it to $40, but they won't apply the student discount without me providing the exact same code I used originally to redeem. Lesson learned- Keep a record of the code and never trust Optus billing!

      • A similar thing happened to me when I upgraded my existing plan to this one. They assured me if I upgraded I wouldn't have to pay my handset fee upfront and that it would each month continue as normal. Of course they ended up charging my handset fee in full on my next bill, so I got on their online chat with a copy of the transcript and threatened to go to the TIO. I ended up getting $444 credit applied to my account.

Maybe try that and see how it goes. It seems like you have to threaten them with the TIO to get anything fixed.

        • Yeah to be honest I half expected them to mess up the billing on this, don't know why I didn't keep some records to back myself up! But congrats on the $444 credit, that's a good outcome. They're escalating the student discount component of it to someone else, so I'll wait a few days to see the outcome of that, if they still refuse then I'll threaten to escalate to the TIO. Considering I'm on the verge of resigning my broadband with them, they're really not helping themselves!

      • When my order kept dragging on for weeks (after I supplied them with all the info they asked for) I got a bad feeling and told them to cancel it. I even made sure to ask the person on the phone to give me their employee number, as well as a reference number for my records. To hell with Optus!

  • Can someone please PM me Unidays code for optus plan if you are not using one? Much appreciated!
