    Review of the phone
    http://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-redmi-3-review-679545…

If you are going to buy it, make sure you are tech savvy and know how to unlock the bootloader yourself, because it's going to be tricky (read the review)

Looks very good for the price, although largely overshadowed by the Xiaomi Note 2 / 3 series. Unless you specifically want a 5" display the Note 2 is much better bang for the buck.

    • But why would you need to unlock the Bootloader?

      • +4

You may be stuck with non-removable Chinese apps. Emphasis on May, because the review mentioned lack of Google Play store.

Aliexpress description says Google Play: Yes, but I would take this with a grain of salt, and second, customized malware may exist, like it did with my XM Note 2. You can only remove malware by fully flashing a new ROM.

        • Why didn't you install Global ROM?

        • +2

          @HandsomeMonkey:

I did. After much hassle though I ended up with SMIUI7. the latest MIUI is actually buggy as heck — the Bluetooth drops out and makes the phone completely unusable with any wearables. I've pointed the issue out to MI forum and they're still working on a fix. SMIUI is based on MIUI so I have to flash it again to get rid of the BT bug.

        • thank you for the warning; as a newbie i am watching ozB for a good mobile which I can buy. and a laptop as well. this lets me know what not to buy.
am now in malaysia so this site helps me een there.

        • @scrimshaw:

          Try Xiaomi.EU ROM.

        • @scrimshaw:

I have a note 2 and it is giving me the poohs. Buggy like nothing, battery drain etc. I have tried updating to miui7 but it keeps reporting an error.

Can you provide any advise on flashing? I'd love it if I could get it to function somewhat usably.

          Thanks

        • @beerbudget:

I'd be happy to assist. Took all of 15 minutes to go from Chinese firmware to rooted, global firmware.

          Pm me if you want.

    • CONS
      -No U.S. availability
      -Camera is mediocre
      -Sunlight readability could be better
      -Bootloader unlocking process is unwieldy
      -Occasional performance hiccups are annoying

Wtf? Websites reviewers are so retarded these days. It's a freaking Chinese phone for Chinese markets and it's 160$ ffs.

      • That's what's flawed with phone reviews. They rarely take price into account, and just comment on the phone as it is.

Battery looks great - would be great if it had 3gb of ram :/

    Is this store good?

    • -3

      No PayPal? No deal.

      • AliPay is safe.

        • +1

          Safer than PayPal!

  • I want to get this phone but will wait for the official global ROM for ease of removing "mi store" which is particularly tricky to get rid of (yes, I know there are ways, but they aren't as straight forward as flashing the official global when/if it becomes available).

    Great price, BTW.

  • The Redmi Note 2 deal has now been added. Looks to be a great price when looking at previous deals. :)

    • +2

very good deal on the note2 both the 16g and 32g ………. bought one for my son, runs an Optus and a Telstra sim in it. Loaded the global rom and it runs like a fine switch watch. Wish it had band 28 …..
Otherwise it's the cheapest FHD phablet you can get that comes with a clean android 5 factory rom option, and android 6 is on the roadmap.

      • +1

Have you found a noticeable difference from the lack of band 28? I tried to do some research but couldn't find much info on whether Optus had multiple 4g band coverage in metro areas..

  • i have the note 2 but am unable to flash the rom to it, id say user error :)
please is someone able to provide a link?

Are you trying the official stable ROM?

    • First, do a factory reset by launching "Updater " app —> click "…" at top RH corner —> select "Reboot to Recovery mode" —>select "Wipe All Data". Now restart phone and connect to your computer and copy the *downloaded ROM file into phone storage. Launch “Updater” app and click ‘…’ —> select "Choose update package" —> select the ROM file you’ve just copied into phone storage. The phone will automatically boot to the new version when the update is complete.

*This is the link to the Redmi Note 2 stable Global Rom download page.

Good price for this phone, I paid about $200 a month ago.

If you don't mind a slightly older firmware (MIUI 7.1.3), it's easy to flash this ROM: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=236545&extra…

It's already rooted, most of the Chinese apps are already removed, Google play store is installed and it has xposed. Just flash it with the official Miflash PC app.

  • How well does it support telstra frequencies?

    • +1

Not that well. No Band 28 or the new Band 8.

  • Hey OP you mentioned a $6.70 coupon that gets included? So that means as long as you use the mobile app it auto adds some sorta coupon? Keeping my out for this tomorrow.

Btw do you know if it's AEST or some other time zone?

    • Hi illumination, I go by the Anniversary Sale countdown clock on the app which says 1d 00h 52m which means the sale kicks off at 6pm AEST tomorrow? Hope OP can confirm this.

Is this the sale that will stop the OzB nation? ;D

  • -1

Coupon is only if you spend $549.

    • That is correct, you can get the $2.69 coupon though. Sorry about that too.

  • Is there a "preferred" seller on AliExpress for phones? Has anyone found a good deal from their Anniversary sale? Would appreciate anyone here who have purchased from them to share their experience. Not sure if the online feedback counts and comments could be relied upon? Is more orders from a particular seller better? I note Australian feedbacks are only a minority. Some sellers offer DHL for extra $11. Would this be worthwhile? Any tips from experienced buyers appreciated! :)
