  • That is an excellent price for the specs! Much better than the Lenovo deal posted earlier last week! I don't need but would have gone for it in a heartbeat if I was in the market.

  • Decent deal… I am waiting for the HP related comments to begin.

HP premium notebooks like the spectre and their business line are some of the best laptops on the market. HP Elitebooks are my personal favourite. They're extremely reliable and well built.

  • Really great price. This machine is built really nicely, the finishes are all spot on and the specs are great. At that price this is unbeatable for what you get.

  • Just chiming in, I have had the x360 model for about a year, it's unreal, really well built, great battery. Would recommend to anyone!

    • Bought the 256GB version of this in January for master entropy for the same money. A very, very good machine, macbook pro quality. Build quality, battery life, screen all great. trackpad seems same as most windows machines. RRP is MBP territory too, so this is a really good deal.

  • Awesome laptop but HATE the size of the tracking pad. Everything else is awesome.

    • +2

My biggest gripe with the trackpad is that there's no buttons on it. I hate the combined pad/button approach. Every time you try to click you move the mouse off whatever you were trying to click ARGHHH

  • Excellent price for 512GB SSD .I got 4102tu at this price with 256GB SSD .Good 2-1 laptop+tablet with excellent battery life.I recommend it.

    Is this true?

"During our testing period we frequently pressed the glass ClickPad surface for a left click and the x360 would register a right click. Similarly, sometimes we would try to make a right click and the x360 thought it was a left click. Worse still, occasionally the ClickPad would simply ignore the fact that we made a click if it couldn’t determine whether the click was a left click or a right click. We managed to “partially” remedy the problem by adjusting the default Synaptic driver settings so the ClickPad did a better job of recognizing left clicks and right clicks, but we never completely eliminated the problem.

Bottom line, unless Microsoft switches to a single mouse button control interface in Windows 10, every notebook with a buttonless ClickPad will struggle with these issues to some extent. "

That's the older Intel Broadwell spectre x360. This is the skylake model.

It's a driver issue. Perhaps it's worth going through the long thread on whirlpool to see if anyone has had this issue with the newest model.

      • its fine. we have the 256Gb version of this same laptop. Not as good as a MBP trackpad, but still OK. It is very large though.

EDIT: Works with adding anything to get over $2000. You could also add the Active Stylus (J4R51AA) and "HP 2 Year Service Plan" (UM952E) to get it up to $2009. Minus HP15EXTRA brings it down to $1727.48

    • Nice deal, Which warranty should we use, they are lots of one and none of them are compatible.

    • Use HPLASTCHANCE10% and bring it down a further $10-$20 - discounts the other items by a further 10% (Computer remains at 15% discount)

  • Good price for a good laptop

  • argh the 2-3 week delivery kills it for me, as I'll be heading overseas in early April and really wanted to utilise TRS

  • Does it have an integrated graphics card? Can't seem to find any info on it.

    • Intel HD 520

  • How's HP after sales service and warranty? Got burnt by Asus.

Are they as good as Dell in terms of ease of return etc?

    BUYERS BEWARE

HP Spectres have hardcore wireless dropout issues. Do a quick Google search before purchasing! My GF has a Spectre and the wireless kept on dropping out no matter what I tried!

    • Turning off power saving mode
    • Installing latest driver
    • Rolling back
    • Installing Windows 10, Installing Windows 10 compatible drivers
    • Rolling back to Windows 7
    • Installed a different antenna
    • Installed different wifi card, not compatible with bios
    • Clean reinstall Windows

Its an absolute nightmare, never going buy another HP laptop again lol

    • had absolutely no trouble at all with ours. The closest alternative to a 13 inch MBP in the windows world IMHO, but using more up to date chip.

    • Do you have the broadwell or skylake spectre?

  • -1

The "technical details" don't tell you what Wifi chip it uses or what the screen resolution is or what graphics processor it has.

    • take my word for it.
The graphics processor is integrated into the core i7-6500U CPU, so you know it's using the 520. The screen resolution is 1080p. The wireless card is most likely an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265.

THis is a premium consumer laptop. It's not using budget components.

  • So between this and the Dell XPS 13, what do people think?

    • +1

Get whichever is cheaper unless you want a PCI-E SSD, ability to use a dell power companion, less bezel, trackpad (pretty awful, though) with buttons, and a USB Type C. All of which is in the dell.

      • At the time we bought the spectre the dell was just too expensive for the equivalent.

  • Thanks l was looking for an ultrabook looks great. Can't wait for delivery now.

    • Have you ordered this?
I ordered and had CC debited. When just checked order status it has been cancelled. Is this price too good to be true?

      • +1

l ordered mine my order status has this

14 April is my delivery date.

        • All good. Rang HP ordered over phone. Couldn't give me a reason order failed. System failure??
          Delivery date 21/4.
          Thanks for reply.

  • It would appear that this model has support for an active pen/stylus, however there is no mention of this in the technical specs.

If this is correct, I wonder for what reason HP would not be mentioning this? Especially considering that this model seems to be competing with the Surface Pro 4.

    • HP have their own stylus too

      • I watched a review which said the Dell stylus worked better than the Hp stylus.

  • Does anyone know whether memory is upgrade-able in this model? Research seems to say that some models are, some aren't, but unfortunately no word on this specific one.

Also best place to buy a mini DisplayPort to full size DisplayPort? They do not seem to be common connectors which make me think I am doing something wrong.

Cheers all, can't wait for the Spectre to turn up.

  • Mine just arrived. It appears it is DOA. When the unit is opened out fully for use as a tablet, it is not snapping in place (closed) as it should, and instead creeps open if not being held in place. It is as though the magnets (presumably that cause it to snap closed) are not strong enough.

Best to check yours just in case!

It would be interesting to know what is causing this. If there are magnets inside, and if there are multiple magnets, has perhaps one of these been left out, or is this something to do with the hinge? Perhaps it being too tight. There is not much to them. And you will need a tiny torx driver if you are planning to open it to add memory etc. I think a T5 type driver.

Hope this info helps/is useful to someone.
