I think this non-bargain announcement probably belongs in the forums?

You forgot to mention it's not $25/mth as you need the base $25/mth package first.

    • Thanks,Edited.

      Hijacking top comment.

Don't forget that fetch TV (where EPL will likely end up) already has bein sports as an option.

Fetch TV is free with a few ISPs and the beIn sports add on its only $15 a month. Pretty much the best of both worlds for a third of the price.

Even if fetch tv isn't bundled with your isp, the base cost is $15 a month. So still almost half the price of epl on foxtel.

Yeah but you only get one channel. Bein Sports Connect is better in terms of cost and on demand matches if you use internet.

        • How do you find the service? I'm happy with the picture quality but I get 1-2 second skips/freezes every 60 seconds and it drives me crazy!

        • -1

@dazweeja: Bein Sports Connect app is actually quite amazing. Never had any freezes with it.

        • @chino8826:

The quality on the app is OK but there's only a very, very small subset of the catch-up games on there? 10-20 compared to 10 times that on the website.

        • Previously it was 150/year (on special otherwise 180) to sign up to Bein with 1 foxtel SD channel but able to stream any game live.

Shame you don't get Connect for free with this.

Either way would rather EPL on foxtel and pay for connect separately.

I dont see Optus being a great solution if I still need to stream games on a poor connection.

      • Yeah EPL will be on the Soccer/ Football channel on Fetch. Who knows how much that will cost though.

        • For what season onwards did they secure the rights? When does the season start?

        • @eltito: August

      • I have Fetch TV through Optus, and I checked the fetch tv link for Bein sports, it says that in order to get the bein sports for $14.95 a month you must subscribe to the entertainment pack which is $15 a month, essentially $30 a month. Just curious to know, have you got Bein sports with fetch TV? And if so, is there a workaround to the requirement of the entertainment pack?

        • Optus gave me the base and entertainment pack for free, I didn't realise you'd need both to get sports!

      • EPL on Fetch is only for Optus TV on Fetch customers and not Fetch customers with other ISPs:

  • Good deal - too late, still cancelling

This belongs in the forums, it is an announcement, not a bargain…

    • How do I move it over?

      • Mods will if they agree…

  • Will this include Rugby Union ? I can't find anything confirming that.

      • +1

Yeah cheers, saw that but you only mentioned football in the OP so I wasn't sure if it was all of the Bein sports. Thanks.

    • which Union games aren't already on there?

      • 6 Nations wasn't live on Foxtel, and some of the Irish test matches weren't either i.e. against the All Blacks. This is great news.

  • How do i get to watch Euro 2016?

    • +1

SBS broadcast 8 matches from knockout stage, no group stage matches.

      • so quarter finals, semis and final and one other i guess.. sigh, not sure croatia's gonna get that far ! hehe

        • +1

One other is 3rd place. They've got decent squad! #EPICBROZO

    • If you get an online subscription to BEIn Sports you should get it.

I did that for Euro 2012 and it worked really well. BeIN had some other name then.

      • i dont want foxtel or fetch or whatever, so i can pay for 1 month for bein for $17 only and see all the games? that aint bad, i might do that

        • +1

That should work. Just watch their auto renewal.

  • If broadcast rights are that expensive couldn't they negotiate a deal for an add on? I'd be happy to pay an extra $5-10 to access EPL and NBA. Understand Optus got the rights but wonder if they considered a "world sports plus" add on. Also know NBA are notoriously tough on negotiating rights but I wonder whether the bigwigs at telstra/foxtel considered trialling a model which offers that feature. If it's not sustainable don't continue it. Maybe the rights holders wouldn't agree to something so short term but it be enough to demonstrate whether the model would be viable with subscribers.

I know I don't like fiddling around with proxies to access NBA or signing up to other broadcast services for EPL. Also heavily considering cancellation as foxtel doesn't offer me anything other than an HD PVR function at the moment for FTA programs and sports. May be worth it if you are a league, AFL or kardashian nut but not for many interested in major world sports like EPL and NBA. For $720 a year I'm going elsewhere! The sports coverage is very limited. I find NFL was pathetic (mostly college football - only fleeting redzone coverage of games) no coverage of NCAA athletics (only the occasional Golden League meet on Eurosport). Everything that I desperately want to watch not there…

    • NBA is on thursd sat and sundays already if im not wrong

  • +14

I support Liverpool, Champion's league channels are of no use to me…

    • Thanks for sharing.

    • When you're back in it we won't see the end of how you don't care about the EPL because you're 5 times Euro champs ;)

    • +1

but the English Championship may be :)

  • Havent been keeping up with the rights, apologies for asking dumb questions but basically I am a foxtel subscriber but not an Optus subscriber. Work gives me a Telstra phone and wife/kids are on Amaysim. I'm not going to sign up for anything Optus so basically i have to giveup following EPL? Not going to giveup Foxtel as i am addicted to GOT, Walking Dead, AFL etc and wife is addicted to UK soaps like Eastenders. Curtains for me and EPL I am guessing?

    • Optus will have an EPL website and app but it's unclear at this stage if they will be restricted to those with other Optus services or not. Also a satellite service. We'll have to wait until the next announcement from Optus.

      • Yea, I am not keen on getting Fetch for EPL (Had it with iiNet and it isn't great) so I will be looking for one of the stand alone options which is how I am watching it now with Foxsports EPL On Demand. Hopefully this isn't limited to Optus customers, that would be a silly move in limiting their potential customer base. I imagine they are just after a return on their investment.

        • There's a lot of discussion on this on Whirlpool. Seems to be two camps - those that think that Optus will try to maximise returns, and those that think that Optus will be prepared to take a loss to build their customer base. The second sounds like a risky strategy but I'm not prepared to rule it out at this stage. I use Premier League Pass (requires Getflix) and it's pretty good.

  • The way I understand this it doesn't include the champions league group matches.
