you guys know if the square magnet would be the same size as the Spigen ones?
I'm using the Spigen Thin Fit Hybrid Dual Layer cover for my iPhone 6S, and it has a space for a magnet built into the case (see the third photo.
There are no specs on the magnet size however :/

  Yes,u do need to attach the metal plate to your phone to use the mount,the mount will not magnetize the phone,only attch to the plate.

I have the exact same set up, different brand, works well in portrait but sucks in landscape for me (Galaxy Note 2). I have the metal plate stuck to the inside of phone cover, wont go so well when I go to change covers but other than that,
functionally, theyre an awesome set up. The speed of the install is hard to beat.

Beware this will completely mess up the compass in you phone, which will make the GPS direction sensing loopy if you're using your phone as a car GPS.

    Most phones have a built-in compass to sense the direction they are pointed. The GPS tells you where you are, and the compass the direction you are pointed. If you're moving at high speed, then you don't need the compass and can use the delta in GPS.

  Cheapest way is to buy the cheapest crappest magnetic mount you can find on eBay. They all usually come with two metal plates.
  
  Couldn't find the metal plates cheaper by themselves. If you find, then let us know.
