LG Nexus 5X 16GB H791 - $258.75USD (~ $340AUD) @ 232tech eBay

460

Found this doing my morning catch-up of AndroidPolice. This is the H791 model and as such has band 28 for those on the Telstra and Optus networks. The only downside is the 16gb internal storage with no SD expansion. This is definitely a dealbreaker for me personally but for kids/parents this might be OK.

Available in Black and White, no Mint.

Personally I would pay $10 more to get it sooner and pay in AUD not USD.

Far out I hadn't realized the 5X had dropped so much. Pretty awesome.

      • I'm wondering how much further the price will drop to by around September when the replacement is just around the corner.

      • I've heard recently that there is very significant user dissatisfaction with this phone, specifically around performance/build quality. Would look into that first…

        edit: review: http://www.androidcentral.com/nexus-5x-three-months
        also kogan $359 https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-google-nexus-5x-16gb-white

Given you can get an LG G4 for a few extra bucks, I can't see why you'd risk it with one of these…

        • note: I upgraded from a first generation Moto X so my perception might be out-of-date :P

Absolutely loving this phone. Got it from that last JbHiFi deal. It's smooth, stable and just awesome to use.

The external speakers are actually a step down from the Moto X but everything else is (obviously) far better. Maybe if I was upgrading from something more recent I'd notice some of these flaws.

I'd definitely take a look at the G4 - but personally, the screen is just slightly too big for me to use comfortably. I'd take a G4 in a smaller package anyday.

Apparently the laggy touch screen while charging was fixed with a hardware revision (from what I can remember reading) - so make sure you get a recently manufactured one.

        • @Christop86: ah I was always wondering why my G4 was laggy when charging! I switched to a fast charger which fixed the issue.

Your link says posted from Taiwan though…

qd_au ships really fast though, I got my Mi4i from them in the last eBay group buy awhile back, took less than a week to arrive.

        • +3

I've bought from qd_au, very quick shipping.

        • im still using the Mi4i, its going strong for 250 bucks!! the latest official global dev rom is quite fast! battery lasts nearly 2 days!

    • +1

Good price if that's the H791. Shipping is a bit eye-watering though

      • +4

Yes if. I will not buy from someone who can't be bothered to put a model number on a product - especially (a grey importer selling) a mobile phone where this is critical information.
Yes, at least they have the frequencies listed but given the amount of incompetent/dodgy people out there this can not be relied on.

        • Just got response from Eglobal. They confirmed it's H791 model.

  • +2

for kids/parents this might be OK.

I'm neither, although we're technically all kids, and 16GB is fine.

  • US H971 doesn't have band 28, they instead have band 29. Hopefully they have the correct version.

    • I think you're wrong. Do you have any source for this info?

Neither the H790 nor H791 have band 29, and the ebay link shows specifically B28(700). Also, this comes with a Euro charger so I would assume it's a european model. There are no other versions of N5X I have ever seen mentioned.

    • For whatever reason people also sell the Int'l model in the US.

There was a 32GB H971 I got from breed on US eBay for $250 USD (expired) which was Int'l.

You can see all the people on SD whinge about the H971 being on sale and the H970 (US model) not being the same price: http://slickdeals.net/f/8602630-32gb-lg-google-nexus-5x-unlo…

  • 16GB without SD card slot would be so bad… maybe only good as a backup.

    • +5

      lol a $350 backup phone

      • I think $350 is OK cheap for a backup, I can't really stand low-end androids that are probably only good for calling, might as well just use a dumb phone.

        • +3

$350? "OK cheap for a backup"?

No wonder people struggle with money…

        • -1

well this has a better camera and screen than iphone 6 so not quite sure what your talking about. anyway i thought just calling is what a backup phone is for?

        • Jesus.

i have $230 redmi note 3 pro and its does everything i could imagine using it for

        • +1

@ubcool: I didn't mean the 5X was bad, not sure how you got that.
I guess people use backup phones differently, for me a backup phone is when the main phone breaks I can switch to the backup and use it like a main phone immediately (with apps I use frequently etc), not as a "temporary phone". So in that case I get backups that are fairly highend but still has compromises here and there that doesn't bother me too much, until the main phone is repaired or until I upgrade to something new and better. Sometimes repairs can take months so I wouldn't settle for a phone I can't stand using.

        • +1

@clse945111: i think you are probably better in investing in a better phone that doesn't break as much or maybe a stronger case if you are a dropper

    • How many apps do you need? 16GB is fine for everyday use.

      • Not just for apps - I store quite a few songs from Google Play Music on my phone to save data and battery from streaming. Add photos/videos and some large apps (especially nav software) and your 16GB will disappear pretty quickly.

Having said that 16GB is plenty for a lot of people.

      • 16GB is fine until you realised you don't have enough space anymore. I'm using a 16GB phone and I've noticed that Google stock apps took up quite a bit a space and I couldn't install much anymore (getting insufficient storage error), had to format an SD as internal storage to keep using the phone.

    • a xiaomi redmi 3 makes an amazing backup phone IMO. This is too expensive to be a backup phone

  • "All items come with a 14 day warranty from the date the item arrives."

  • Still looking for a decent deal of a 32G white model

  • Is it not worth paying an extra 50 or 60 odd dollars for a 32gb model? The 16gb model only has around 12gb of user accessible storage.

Kogan is selling (unknown locale) 32gb version for 399.

    • +2

Plus postage of $20 or so, but yeah, I think for most people the 32GB is a better buy. Expansys are around $415 for the 32GB when they have stock.

      • I would go with the H971 (Int'l) model just because it has more LTE bands than the H978 so it's more future proof.

The only reason why someone should get the H978 is because they need it to work on China Mobile on its special Chinese TDS-CDMA.

        Hong Kong (H798):
        GSM/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
        UMTS/WCDMA: B1/2/5/8
        TDS-CDMA: B34/39
        LTE (FDD): B1/3/7/8/26

        LTE CA DL: B1-B3, B3-B3, B3-B7, B3-B8, B39-B41, B41C-B41C

        Rest of world (H971):

        • Not sure what you were replying to but I was talking about the H791. It's currently out of stock but they had some a couple of days ago.

        • @magicmoose:

          Sorry, I mean Scrimshaw's Kogan Nexus 5X is H798.

          I'm agreeing with you

        • @StrayfireX: oh right. Carry on :P

Hopefully 2017 is the year 32GB becomes the min.

    • You wish. haha, Apple will continue to make 16GB phones and ipads and other companies will do the same.

then charge you 20~30 percent more for the 32GB model for a bigger profit margin. It's a good business tactic and they're not gonna pass that one up.

Asides from Apple and Samsung, most companies don't make that much money selling android devices. the smartphone industry is not all that profitable for the vast majority of OEM's out there.

"Asides from Apple and Samsung, most companies don't make that much money selling android devices."

Even Apple barely turns a profit on its android devices.

  • I have 10gb free on my 16gb SE, its about management why pay for overpriced GB's when the phone does the same anyway.

    • +1

      why pay for overpriced GB's

Why not just buy a phone with SD card storage

      FTFY

  • +1

If you stream music, don't record 4k, don't play games, and use cloud to store all your photo's on than 16gb is plenty. On a $350 phone I could make that compromise. On a phone that costs close to $700 I couldn't. lol

    • I miss the cat avatar you once had!

  • < Insert some band related comment so people think you're smart >

    • +1

      I'm with the band?

  • 16GB… you lose 6GB with Android installed leaving approx 10GB to play with.

  • Anyone still looking at the 5X should also check out this ebay listing. $347 for the same model. Express shipping from Sydney. Both black and white still available. 1yr AU warranty included.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Google-LG-H791-Nexus-5X-Carbon-16…

  • keen on this but 16gb is too small. There are some 32gb h971 ones on ebay (grey imports) for $400. Is that a good price? Will I have any problems getting local repair under warranty?

    • $400 is pretty good IMO. You won't get it repaired locally if it's a grey import, and some sellers are better than others when it comes to handling warranty problems.

  • Looks like this is expired / they are out of stock now.
