Gold Vodka is the new gold standard for Standard vodka.

      • +2

        • Decadent Capitalist pigs

    • Me too.

    • Same boat. Just picked up a bottle of the gold version tonight and looking forward to throwing a few back this weekend!

  • I'd go for "green mark" anyway. but I am russian :)

    • Green mark?

    • Does it taste less like burning? :D

      • +1

It should not taste pretty much at all (this is why it is vodka, spells very similar to russian 'voda' which means 'water'), especially from a freezer ;)

    • How much in the Mother Land?

      • Less than $10 aud for 0.5l Too lazy to check current exchange rate, probably $6-$8. Cheap, anyway :-)))

    • Didnt know we can get that stuff here, thanks for pointing me out :-)))

It's not a pure vodka. The manufacturer claims it adds Rhodiola Rosea in it, known in Russia as 'Golden Root' (hence the name 'Gold' due its yellow colour) or 'Syberian Ginseng'. While it's also a powerful adaptogenic herb (improves immunity), it's not the same as Asian Ginseng.
For a clean vodka, stick to normal Russian Standard Vodka, or try Stolichnaya.

    • That's pretty cool, Rhodiola Rosea is considered by some to be a nootropic (smart drug) for its anxiolytic properties. Some cool studies showing improvement in stress and decrease in fatigue.

Do you have a source that Russian Standard adds Rhodiola Rosea to this vodka?

      • +1

        From http://russianstandardvodka.com/the-family/gold

Russian Standard Gold is inspired from an ancient Siberian vodka recipe made popular by Peter the Great and has extracts of Siberian Golden Root.

        • +7

I find that I stress less when drinking any vodka.

      • +1

Right on the label, left from 'GOLD', it says КОРЕНЬ ЖЕНШЕНЯ (pronounced as "Koren Zhen Shenya"), the Root of Siberian Ginseng - a layman's term for Rhodiola Rosea in Russia, also known as Golden Root, hence the name Golden.

  • Don't all vodkas taste exactly the same?
Its basically just alcohol and water, and trying to eliminate any potato flavour.

    • +1

Yes, they are about the same.
Bet you won't spot much difference in Vodka for $10 or $50 if you go in Russia.
Just not quite understand why does most of Vodka have 37% alcohol not 40%? Something related to tax or what?

      • I can tasted the difference between a good brand and a bad one.

        • +10

          You're drinking now, aren't you?

    • +2

the "elimination" phase is a hard one. good vodka does not smell ethanol even when warm (37% vs. 40% contributes to this too).

    • Thirsty Camel sells this $15 vodka and it's nasty. You'll notice the difference after drinking that.

      • +2

I bet it's not real vodka.

i dare anyone to try a shot of mishka vodka and thrn tell me all vodka tastes the same

        • +3

i dare anyone to try a shot of mishka vodka

You could have stopped right there. I've tasted industrial solvents that are nicer than Mishka.

        • Real vodka? Lol, what France (Mishka) has to do with Polish drink?

        • @savit:

Have a shot of mishka vodka and let us know

      • Thirsty camel sells vodka for about $24. The $15 drink you're referring to is a low alcohol mix.

        • +1

It's a local brew. I suspect the manager brewed it himself.

        • in his bathtub…

        • What vodka is $24 at thirsty camel, I've never seen vodka for less than $27

        • @strikerzebra:

Cheapest vodka I could find from a swift Boozle search was Oriloff @ $23.99 for a 700ml bottle (37% ABV) from Jim's Cellars. Min. order, delivery extra.

          From the advertising blurb…

You'll struggle to find a bottle of vodka at this price with the same level of quality!

Which is true, but not necessarily a good thing. If it's worse than Mishka, I'd consider turps, kerosene or Brasso as an alternative first.

        • @NoPantsToday:

$12 shipping for something that is most likely equal or worse than mishka, nope!

Turps with soda water and lemon sounds better

      • Mongolian vodka is awesome

    • In a nutshell - no. Trust me, I've been drinking that stuff for almost 30 years :-)

    • Yeah but if you buy it in a crystal skull bottle it makes you look cool.

Actually, the bottle does look kind of cool, but the Vodka is supposedly pretty average.

  • +2

    vs ketel one?

  • Russian Standard Platinum is the way to go. But then it's too expensive :(

  • +1

Beluga Noble is the way to go, best vodka ever. Does not burn, then you got this heat burst couple of seconds later. Had it for the first time in Moscow, loved it.

    • It was a while ago, right? I tried Beluga 2-3 years ago and it was nothing special (to my taste at least)

  • +2

Normal Russian Standard is $32.90 a bottle (not a bad price), but if you buy 6 bottles then it's just $36.90 per bottle!

  • Do you get no hangover after a night of imbibing?

  • +2

Double Gold medal winner at the San Francisco Spirits Competition last year.

    • Bought two bottles, will try some on the rocks tonight!

  • My local Dan's had 38.90 sticker price so the drop isn't that great.

    • Still a great vodka though

      • No complaints here, drinking some right now :)

        • If you smell the vodka it actually has no smell, amazing . . no metho smell like all the others haha
