Can I assume you are by yourself? If I tried whilst travelling with the missus it would end in fight. I would say that is the best of both worlds, relaxation in the ozbargain way.

          Nope ..whole family,OzBargaining dosen't take a vacation.

    • TA, you spoke my mind.
When I saw the deal on the front page, I thought "sweet, I can comment on the relationship between meal eating and deal posting". But nah, TA the man steps in :)

  • Got a 2TB Samsung for a similar price in December 2014. On Amazon. Aussie dollar much stronger then.

Good deal. Needs to creep under $100 to get a plus from me though.

    • Give it a few months and it will!

hmm MSY have the 2.5" WD Elements USB drive for $114, $108.something if you price match at Officeworks. At least no hassles with warranty etc. then - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/242331

I cannot comprehend why anybody would bother importing such a thing from America, when they can be purchased locally for such a tiny amount extra.

It's a Hard Drive and it's a small and fragile one. A huge percentage fail just from having data written to them, and the last thing they need for good health is being bashed around during transportation.

Who cares if Amazon have a good refund policy, you are without your money and your drive while the problem is resolved.

usually i would say local warranty is preferred, but amazon has a very good rep and policy on refunds.

  • These have the USB controller integrated into the PCB of the drive, right?

  • Are these USB-powered and are they 5400rpm? (I couldn't seem to find this on the Amazon product description)

For non-portable use, what are the pros/cons of USB-powered vs external powered?

    • Are these USB-powered

      YES

For non-portable use, what are the pros/cons of USB-powered vs external powered?

USB powered needs power from a USB port. Sometimes the USB port will be overloaded and unable to cope, however this probably will not affect USB 3.0 ports. Generally a slow and fragile 2.5" laptop drive

External powered doesn't load up the USB Port, more reliable power. Generally a faster, sturdier and infinitely more reliable 3.5" PC drive
