    cheap jap tickets
    nice first post

  • +2

Some from Sydney as well, but higher priced, reflecting the extra leg required. $441

And maybe grab a few of those ULD vests from uniqlo because its super cold there

Not at those dates unless you book in Nov - Dec :)

  • Great price, but Im yet to leave on the tickets i bought a few months ago..

    • +1

I'm leaving tomorrow as well :)

Such a tough decision to make!

      • Enjoy the trip!

        • +1

          You too!

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth going for the start of the ski season in December. Unfortunately no flights are showing up to Saparro though yet.

Might just book Tokyo again and see how things go aha

        • @downhillmtbr: I've got tickets for June.

  • is this a price error? would it get cancelled?

    • +2

Most likely not. I've seen this deal over the last few years. Mates love it.
I think the standout one last time from memory was $350 with a friend free return or something along the lines (might've been last year or the year before)

      • +2

It was ~October last year I believe.

        Source: Flying tomorrow :)

  • So tempted, but I'm about to leave tomorrow on the same tickets I bought late last year!

    • I just got back on Wednesday… so tempted to book as well!! :( Enjoy your trip!

  • +1

Looks like the deal is normal price for outbound, but $0 return. Was hoping for a cheap one way and then routing back through somewhere else :( great deal, no less.

  • +1

Any experience with Jetstar Int'l, such as flight delay etc ?
    Thks

    • +1

They're pretty good to be honest. Maximum I've experienced in delay on my annual snow trip in the last six years was an hour due to the Chilean volcanic ash. Typically fifteen minutes late though.
Edit: on departure. Usually arrives on time or very close to it. Pilot generally makes up the time.

    • +1

Flown to Thailand and back twice with them, no issues whatsoever :)

    • flown to japan from sydney via cairns with no issue, we actually arrived earlier than scheduled on both legs. very happy with them.

    • +3

No complaints with jetstar, however i found the passengers worse than on qantas

      • +3

        CoughOzBargainerscough!!! ;)

    • Flew Hawaii return in march. All good. The dream liners have a USB charging point at each seat.

    • I did these flights with jetstar in the last 3 weeks.

      • late (maybe 90minutes) departing melbourne. Very frustrating when your flying out time is nearly 1am. Had to taxi back in from the runway at last minute due to some paperwork problem with the no of bags onboard. otherwise would have left on time.

      • left tokyo on time. arrived in Melbourne early.

Would fly it again. On the 787, the inflight entertainment is reasonable for a 10hr flight, and the seats not TOO bad. Certainly 10hrs is more than enough being cramped.

We paid $900/ea return (school holiday flights), and would fly them again at this price. These specials are never co-incided with school holidays, so can never get them this cheap!

      • These prices are available in October school holidays!

        • Not Victorian School Holidays (17 sept to 2nd Oct).

    • Have used them 5 or 6 times and all have been pretty spot on BUT the last time the direct overnight flight i booked got cancelled and had to fly the next morning via Cairns. Added an extra 5 hrs or so with the stopover and to top things off the volcano issue near Tokyo cropped up so the flight got diverted to Osaka without enough time to jump on the Shinkansen or another flight to mkae it to Tokyo that night and ended up missing the last day of the Sumo! Booooo

  • +6

Because of the price i thought stuff it, ill work out a flight from sydney to melbourne later Couldnt pass on the awesome price first time flying in a 787 as well.

  • Sydney?

    • +3

There are many other cities included, as outlined in the couple of other posts detailing the same sale, though these were all marked as duplicates so I guess the content is lost…

Mods: any chance when you mark a post as a duplicate that you can copy some of the info into the OP? Or a comment? Or is that info retained somewhere?

      EDIT: typos…

  • +3

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    Just booooked :)

  • great price. went last year and loved it. want to go back again but in january/feb next year so will wait for a deal for that time then

  • +1

I see Jetstar's trimmed their cheapest flights available feature down to just a week. Previously it was two weeks, and I think it showed a whole month's worth of fares before that.

  • Such a good deal!! The jetstar flight is nice as you wake up to a lovely sunrise over the ocean near Japan. And arrives around 6ish. So tempted to book. Thanks for posting!!

  • Must resist… :`(
    Great deal btw!

    • +2

Resist? No way man! I don't remember cheapest ever! Go without luggage and come back with extra $90 for 20KG baggage package.

      • I wouldn't if it was just me and my gf, but was planning on taking the whole fam next year, decisions, decisions.

        • wow. tell them the good news……350 return…with extra stuffs add up to 425 per person……hard to resist…

        • +1

@mooreshady: haha, too hard in the end, should be good, hoping for some nice autumn colours.
          Another +1 for OP!

        • @dtra: Yeah hoping for it too~ I realised doing seasonal trip is fun in Japan… I did mine Valentine period, so romantic, just went during Easter period so eggy there + sakura season as a bonus! Now is autumn time!!

  • When is snow season in Japan?

Just saw the promo on their main site

    • Nov - March

    • +2

It's actually more December to May

Late December around Hakuba, up Sapporo way may be earlier and go through to as late as May

      • From personal experience I'd have to agree ^

Although it varies each year - best bet would be Mid-Late December onwards with January being your peak month.

    • Earliest for snow is late December. Decent snow, anyway. Head to Hokkaido for more reliability

  • are the seats on jetstar (japan flights) smaller than say cathay pacific? or qantas?

    • A little smaller. like airasia.

      • Definitely a lot smaller. Shorter legroom distance.

        • seats are 3-4-3 which sucks compared to qantas 2-4-2 (well for couples anyway)

        • @Yamai: there's a lot going on in that sentence.

        • @Yamai:

I just got back on Wednesday and the seats were actually 3-3-3.
Bit hard trying to fit a family of 4 so we split 2 and 2.

  • Gold Coast is also $350… so tempting, this would be my 4th trip to japan in 5 years and I just came back from a trip last November.

Why must you toy with my heart and wallet jetstar

    • I think you mean "Why must you toy with my heart and wallet Ozbargain"…

  • +1

    great price! Booking it soon!

FYI, the uniqlo in japan, the price is almost the same as Melbourne. So i do recommend getting something never see before or their japanese style limited editions etc instead of the normal clothes. They do have specials which can be really cheap. like i got a heattech sweater for aud$5 and a disney sweater for $15. but that's special section.

    went to uniqlo ginza.

    • +1

Best specials are around New Years, or holiday periods, prices get insanely cheap

  • Guess I'll be seeing a few of you over there!

    • +5

should start a OZB tour group over there lol

  • -2

anybody know if its available in Jan 2017?

  • Can anyone confirm that late Nov - early Dec is best time for autumn colors in Tokyo? Mid nov to late nov for Kyoto?

    • +1

Sounds about right according to last year Autumn report: http://www.japan-guide.com/blog/koyo15/

    • +1

I was in Kyoto late November early December last year and still lots of very nice red autumn leaves so yes I'd say a few weeks earlier would be even better

    • +1

I can also confirm that that time of year still brings lovely colour to Tokyo.

  • I see some smiling jap young ladies are waving hands towards me… Can't resist to buy the air ticket to see them.

  • +9

I'm staying in Kotobuki (Tokyo) as I write this (two of us), been here for a week so far, sorry if I talk (type) baby english, becomes a habit real quick trying to communicate in a non-english speaking country.

It's raining atm so researching what to do today (a bit shopped out).

Got the recent $249 JS deal from Cairns to Osaka, seats were a little tight for me, ex-rugby forward, but were ok for my son who's built more like a winger, good thing is the seat base is high enough you can stretch your legs out under the one in front, + off course you can get up and walk around/stretch.

Based in an Airbnb "apartment", 7 nights = $980, lots more room than a hotel room, something you'd live in, comes with all facilities including washing machine (no English on TV over here tho, unless satellite, but can live stream). https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/11740841
Re any accommodation, google maps isn't real accurate over here, can lead you a couple of block out, + they write backwards so maybe translation is off, highly recommend asking for address in Japanese writing so you can ask locals on the street etc for directions, or cabbies.

Hiroshima has been our favorite so far, like a young "very clean" Melbourne

If moving around definitely get a JR Rail pass before leaving Aus, seems expensive compared to Aus trains but just a trip from Osaka to Hiroshima nearly covered the cost, well in front now. Finding the correct platforms can take a bit to get used to, lots of baby english, confusing communication.

Whilst accommodation supplies portable wifi we got B-mobile sim cards, however its data only, no calls which would have come in handy a few times, but found a free month deal with Skype, $30 unlimited for 14days.

Off to Tokyo Dome to watch the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants vs Hiroshima Toyo Carp this weekend (National Baseaball)

    Any Q's just ask ;-)

    • Try using Rome2Rio if google maps is playing up, used both in Tokyo and Osaka and never had a problem.

      • +1

        Thanks, will compare it

    • Odd, had no issues with google maps while in Japan.

    • Never had any huge issues with google maps.

We went and saw a Yomiuri match at the Tokyo dome once. Awesome atmosphere, but most boring match ever - ended 0-0 after extra innings.

      • +1

Only going for the atmosphere, apparently they get right into it, something we can't experience in Australia.

Sell out game, biggest rival teams in Japan apparently, first time for me in a closed stadium, looking forward to it

        • Enjoy the experience! Report back how it went.

    • It's a little erratic on both our phones, jumps around etc (using IOS)
Biggest issue is locating places in narrow lanes that only just fit a car (between tallish buildings) plenty of nice folk to steer us right tho, after lots of confusing translation.

      • Yep me too - iPhone 5 GPS took a while to get an accurate lock on especially just after exiting a subway train.

I found it easier to get your bearings using the map - i.e. if train is northbound, and I need to be heading west, then I go left after getting out of the train. Also exits are usually labelled north/south/east/west so that helps a bit.

  • +2

Awesome price, thanks OP, booked November, excited!
Anyone looking for a good place to stay, check out this http://www.tokyoserviceapartments.com/
Stayed with them a couple of times, huge and really reasonably priced for Japan, run by an Aussie too

  • just realised there were some fares for the $0 return leg from sydney as well weird that i didnt see it when i booked it initially feeling pretty annoyed now oh well whats done is done…. need to find a cheap fare to Melbourne

  • Sweet just booked flights for Late Nov - Mid Dec.
Now time to find some cheap accommodation!

  • June or October/November best season to go?

    • +1

June is hot and very humid

October/November is popular for Autumn leaves, beautiful time

  • First time to Japan thanks to Ozbargain!!! SUGOI!!!

  • +1

Found basic fares from Brisbane at $398 (leaving 31st Aug '16) and $388 in November (multiple dates).
Anyone know if you can pay extra for the luggage only and not the full Starter Pack?

    • +1

Yes you can pay luggage only. Don't select any starter pack and on next page Jetstar would automatically add 20kg per person, so you can change this as per your need.

      • Cheers, thanks Pyramid

    • can do that after you selected your flight, im taking 15kgs to go and 25 return, as i'll be doing heaps of shopping in japan, lol

      • +2

~$50 for luggage … I may as well pay the extra $40 on top of that and get the full package including food and the Qantas FF Status points. So an extra $180 added making it $580 return. Still cheap. Also, from my point of view I find the Jetstar seats more comfortable than Qantas.

        • That's what I did for the trip I'm on now, however only one of us needed the extra kg for the trip up, I just had carry-on, prob will on the way back too

  • +4

    No love for WA… :(

    JETSTAR Y U DO DIS

    • No one does direct flights out of Perth, japan air is considering it.
I had to fly over to Cairns, spent a full day on the reef, night at Rydges Tradewinds ($120) flew out next day, have a full day there on the way back.
Hindsight I should have gone back via Sydney, shown my boy the harbor etc

  • Osaka also seems to have free return flights also

  • Pretty good deal - The flight from Brisbane goes via Cairns, so is 12hrs and $56 each way for a bag!

Better to go from Gold Coast - Cheaper, direct flight and only(?) $35 for the bags…Bargain! (Last time I went it was $80 more)

  • do you guys think there will be another sale for japan for the january/feb months of next year? have they done sales for that period before?

    • I would also be interested in cheap return flights to Tokyo or Osaka in January!

    • Last September, departing Cairns or Sydney, Jetstar did cheap Feb fare to/from Osaka, and cheap March fares to/from Tokyo: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/211613

    • itll be after school and uni hols

  • I guess the following itinerary will be very useful:

Please Comment on My Japan Itinerary (Nov 2016)
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/241994

  • Good deal! Are there normally sales for Dec-Jan period from Adel-Japan though?

  • gosh i'm so tempted but can't line up a travel buddy :(

$422 from Sydney is bargain right? I haven't been tracking fares to Japan long enough to know.

    • Hell yes. $600 odd is a bargain. If you want to go snap it up.

  • I'm looking for destinations for my next mates weekend away. How would Tokyo do for a 4 day hangover style bender? I've never been myself. Is it relatively cheap to go out, buy drinks, taxis, etc.

    • Going out in Japan is a lot cheaper than AUS that's for sure. Club entrance about 2000yen, basic shot and mixers are generally 500-800yen at a bar/club. However I think taxis are abit more expensive in Japan. Exchange rate about $1 = 83yen

    • Unfortunately I was a bit past it (and already married) when I first visited Japan. Imagine it would be perfect for the kind of trip you describe. Would have a ball. Party at night, onsen during the day.
