    • Wil wait for a better deal on this

  • Has anyone seen/purchased a decent keyboard cover/case for the Mi Pad?

  • Whats the recommended method to pay at aliexpress?
    i cant see paypal?
or just rely on their buyer protection?

    • +3

Aliexpress buyer protection is arguably better than PayPal.

  • How is this compared to the recent deal on the Sony Z3 compact?

    • +1

This is quicker in the CPU. Otherwise its just about price, brand and whether you want to wait 6 weeks before you get it from China.

      • Seriously 6 weeks? Most stuff I order from China arrives within 3 weeks.

        • Depend on who you buy it from and if they have it in stock along with the postage method you select. The quickest I've had was about 5 business days via courier ($30 on top). Slowest is about 12 or so weeks where I think they got someone to row the damn thing over by boat whilst being captured for some time by Indonesian pirates. Its a luck game with postage from China.

    • Not sure but I just got my z3 and it is brilliant.

  • Really tempted. Good android pad.

  • Which processor is better Tegra K1 or Intel Atom? The Teclast X89 here seems to be a good option too at lower price. It is also a dual boot for those who don't like Android. Also it is from a much reputed seller. Anybody has any hands on with Teclast X89 before?

  • +1

Rvsure the k1 makes the basic Intel look silly

    • -1

That's interesting as mi pad 2 comes with an intel Atom processor. Why would Xiaomi downgrade the processor on a newer version of tablet?

    • -1

Are you SURE? Are you absolutely positive? I have the x16 pro by teclast which also runs the intel atom and I can run not too demanding games such as the desktop version of minecraft (via windows 10 dual boot) 50-60fps easy

  • this or mi pad 2?

  • +1

Mipad 2 no SD card slot. This makes the decision easy.

    • what about the difference in processors? Is the Intel better than Nvidia?

  • +1

Any recommended drop proof case with stand?

  • Rvsure the Intel chip in teclast you mentioned is the 3735f basic chipset. The new mipad runs the new z8500 chipset there would not be a great deal of difference from k1 to the z8500 but a huge difference between k1 to 3735f k1 is a beast 192 core no comparison to 3735f.But new mipad no sd

    • Thanks for the detailed explanation. Now it make sense why Xiaomi went for Intel Atom processor in their new version.

  • One concern is that the battery may not last long if the tablet has been sitting in the warehouse for a while.

  • It does not say original, does it mean it is fake?

    • neither does the ipad mini that's on sale on apple store :)

      • same seller is selling "Original" Mi Pad 2.

best full review. beats all the top tablets in its range performance wise.

  • The price looks tempting for a decent retina tablet with SD card, and Android isn't bad at all, so I did a bit of research before buying. But I actually decided not to buy.

By most the reviews I read, Mipad is a good piece of hardware, but the software and support are mediocre. Xiaomi seems to have abandoned the product already. Here is a frustrating voice after 1 year of using Mipad http://en.miui.com/thread-128970-1-1.html, he said he terribly regretted buying the tablet. In reply to him, another guy shared the frustration and even created a thread calling for releasing kernel source http://en.miui.com/thread-129276-1-1.html, just to get banned (scroll a little down in the thread). It is a shame all that happen when Xiaomi is still marketing Mipad in their website. I would get mad and throw the tablet to a wall if I used that buggy thing.

Can't see why there'd be so much drama about the ROM that it comes with.
Usually takes about 20-30 minutes to root the device and change the ROM on it - and there's normally a heap of tutorials on how to do it for the not-so-tech-minded out there.
So you can usually completely move away from the crappy shipped ROM that it comes with and do exactly what you want with it.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mi-pad - lots of helpful stuff there (like the CyanogenMod ROM).

I bought one for the gf anyways and I've used CyanogenMod on a good few devices already, so I'll try it out on this whenever it arrives and give an update (unless someone who has one already wants to do it for me).

      • +100500

I'm not really tech savvy, but I was able to rewrite ROM in 20 minutes.
There are plenty of step-by-step guides on youtube.

      • Custom ROMs aren't great on this device. I mentioned above that Xiaomi didn't release the kernel source, so that custom ROMs are rare and buggy.

        • +1

I'm using ROM from xiaomi.eu (with google play and all the bells & whistles) for about a year now - not a single bug or freeze so far.

  • How does this compare to the nvidia?

  • @corvusman which ROM are you using on this device currently?

  • Intended use is just browsing web, and Youtube, and maybe Whatsapp if its possible to install.
Will this tab cut it for say about 2 years given it is not going to be updated by Xiaomi?

Or should I buy the mipad 2 instead?

  • The former prime minister must have a lot of time on his hands now.

  • Any deals on 64GB Mr Abbott?

  • Deal seems to be over. USD$175 now.

  • Mine was delivered today. I have installed google launcher the interface is looking just like my nexus 6p, even though it is running kit-kat. Screen looks pretty good. Performance is very acceptable. A good buy.

  • Got mine few days ago. Noticeable lag right from the start with minimal apps installed and lags within apps eg. chrome and keyboard opening up. I thought it was a one off and continued to test. Today I finally got over it and found a fix from what I can tell so far need to play with it more though, but it feels much more responsive and faster.

    • Still experiencing lag, but not as often I think.

      • I did not experience any lag.

  • I flashed the latest ROM but can not launch Google play.
