  • Keen on getting a smart charger. Need some decent Eneloops after the demise of DSE. Any suggestions?

    • +1

This one. Or did you mean batteries? HobbyKing's Turnigy's are great LSDs.

      • Looking for Eneloops to go with this purchase

        • Why the brand loyalty? Eneloops aren't that great since they moved manufacturing out of Japan.

        • +1

@Lukian: Do you recommend any other brand that hasn't gone downhill?

        • @t25: viagra

        • +2

Despite all the Eneloop hype Turnigy LSD are better. And $1.50 each.

        • @Diji1: Thanks. I note previous references to Hobby King in OzB, but where do you recommend I make my purchase?

        • HobbyKing's Turnigy's are great LSDs.

have always tested higher than claimed and better than eneloops, even the old jap eneloops are not as good as my turnigys in the testing ive done over the last ~5 years.

im not hating on eneloops, they are IMHO opinion the 2nd best battery on the market.. just the hobbykings have simply been better for me.

i also have the maha c9000, also slightly better than the charger in this deal, tho the charger in this deal is again an extremely good charger that im sure most wont regret

I've got one of these chargers, but one of the slots doesn't charge properly anymore - claims the battery is charged when it is clearly not. Seems to be a common problem with this charger.
I've also got an Opus BT-C2400 and much prefer that over the La Crosse.

      • Agreed but How does your btc2400 compare to the btc3100?

  • +1

    Thanks lyl

  • Do these have a US wall socket?

    • Yeah, so you'll have to buy an adapter.

      • Fair enough, next question: do they come in an Australian version or are they only sold in US. I've only ever seen them on here from Amazon

        • Not sure, though I'm inclined to think that it's only sold in US as I've only seen them on Amazon as well.

        • +1

@lyl: cheers thanks for the replies. Think I'm finally going to buy one today

        or bend the pins =)

        • The one I bought had cylindrical pins - so no bending.

        • +1

          @AdrianW:
Smash pins flat with hammer ?? :)

        • Edit: Nevermind; saw your post further down!

  • Fyi it was $52.59

    • +2

It's around ~$51 if you pay in US dollars with a fee free card such as 28 degrees. Amazon's currency conversions are pretty bad.

  • Great charger. Thanks lyl.

  • +1

You can get this one off ebay as an alternative for slightly more ($42.54 USD), but it does come with an AU plug.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Australian-Plug-AccuPower-IQ328-B…

Supposedly the IQ328 has superior build quality to the La Crosse one if you do some googling on it. Personally though I only have the IQ328 and it has served me well so far for about 6 months.

  • Another question: where does one get US to AU power adapter? Is there a standard I need to look for? Bit wary of buying just any old one from ebay and my house burns down or something

    • +2

You don't need a power adapter per se, simply a plug converter. Alternatively you can bend the pins so they fit. The included adapter is rated 120 - 240 v 50/60 hz and is perfectly happy with Australian mains supply once you get the pins to fit.You can buy a 'travel adapter' for a few dollars. You can buy locally if you are dubious of the safety of ebay versions.

      $8 at Bunnings

      • I think I must have bought a European version of the charger - mine has cylindrical pins.

      • Thanks for that I'll get one from bunnings

        • +1

Make sure you get the 'inbound' ones - for overseas visitors to Aus.

    • +1

It uses a "standard" 3V wallwart, centre pin positive. If you have one lying around you could use that instead. I would not recommend trying to bend the pins; it's made of a hard plastic.
I bought my 3 pin adaptors off ebay & they seem reasonably well built. I find the 2 pin version doesn't provide sufficient support for power packs.

  • This model is about 6years old? Any superseded model in the market?

  • +2

From my experience, anything that has those clamping tabs for contacts….pass

a Nitecore I4 has served the household for almost 3years and used everyday without fail.

    • +2

I re-read the comments from the last time this deal was posted and went with this Nitecore Digicharger D4 with 12v car adapter for about $41 AUD.
      http://ru.nkon.nl/nitecore-digicharger-d4.html
It seems to have better battery contacts, plus it can do LiFePO4 should I ever need it.
There is also a USB powered charger if you need it:

      • +1

D4 unfortunately wasn't around when I needed a charger for the household and 18650 batteries, but will look into the D4 adn MAHA range next I reckon.

      • +1

Pulled the trigger on a D4 using your link

You wrote "Every ozbargainers favourite eneloop charger :)" - not mine, which I have made clear several times before - those who don't know yet, I had one overheating and melting, lucky our house didn't catch fire!!!!!!!!!

    • +2

My favourite for eneloops is the MAHA Powerex Mx-C9000. Great charger for nerds.

      • +1

Yeah MAHA is a quality kit pretty much across the whole range no doubt, the MH-C9000 is a beauty but $99 is hefty.

    • Mine died just out of warranty. That's when I bought the MAHA C9000.

  • Aw lyl! I lovett!
