    Groupon for a Poopon!

  • Pity not skewed

    • You don't want to fall off, do you?

    • There are plenty of skew toilets that are cheap.

Installation is the part that hurts.

  • +1

my only issue whenever this deal comes around on here is the exclusions that could happen if it doesn't fit their 'like for like' descriptions, and that theres no easy way to just hand it back its more a case of the tradesperson will tell you how much extra on the day

    • Thanks for the heads up, I want my standard 60's antique replaced, and put in the same place, do you think this will incurr extra charges?

      • +1

The setout will most likely be the defining factor. A shame they don't provide much information.

Also, older pans were generally larger than todays pans, so this could mean there will be a border of grout, or no tiles depending on how the toilet was installed.

  • I can't tell if this is really that great of a deal.

A comparable toilet suite can be had from Bunnings around $250-$300 (from a quick search) - but I have no idea how much a typical toilet installation would cost.

    Anyone able to enlighten us?

    • +4

Plumbers wanted to charge me $150-$200 to install a dishwasher, which I ended up doing myself. I figure a tyoilet would cost a fair bit more, especially cleanup, it cost money to dispose of a dunny.

      • The link you provided is not very clear. Either it's $385 + $99 callout fee + other costs, which means that the deal above is very great.

Or you're saying that Sydney Water charges $385 for installation of a standard toilet, inclusive. That would imply that the normal price of a toilet installation might not be very much different than the deal above, as long as you shop around.

        Standard toilet

        $385 each
        Simple design
        Vitreous china pan only
Concealed connector pipe for easier cleaning

        • I'm not saying anything, that page is Sydney Water's :=p

Anyway, re-reading it suggests to me that SW charges $99 callout + $385 for supply & installation of a standard toilet, including removal & disposal of the existing one (see Talos2005's comment about this mob). Extra services like fixing leaks and changing showerheads can be ordered in the same visit.

        • +1

@downtime: Sent them off a quick email and this is the response, which confirms what you thought:

A toilet replacement would cost $99 plus the $385 for the toilet. This includes the new toilet and it’s installation, and removal of the old toilet.

So for a basic toilet this will be $484.

          Kind regards,

      • Thankyou!

      • How can I pay for the WaterFix service?

All WaterFix charges are added directly to your quarterly water bill. If you're a tenant, you can still request the WaterFix service, but you need to let us know that you are a tenant, and supply us with a copy of your landlord’s signed agreement.

        • +1

          From their T&C:

          (f) You agree that we can add all charges to your Sydney Water account. Unless paragraph (g) applies, all charges are payable in one single payment by the due date for payment of the account to which the charges have been added.
          (g) For the WaterFix® toilet service only, you may nominate either a single payment or four equal instalments over four consecutive Sydney Water bills.
          (h) If you choose to pay in four equal instalments, you must pay a deferred payment administration charge each time you change your payment method

Googling the model number of this toilet only brings up results from a bunch of other deal sites (spreets etc). I'm sure only a small percentage of installs will be straight forward. The additional charges quoted would probably turn this in to a bit of a crap deal. I'm sure even Thomas Crapper would agree!

  • lol… S(A**) bend type

The 'Like for Like' condition sounds like extra charges or hassles that will be added to the cost of the product http://www.nupandi.com.au/#!installation-terms/c13mi so be careful, remembering there are 2 types of toilets, connector toilet seats http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/toilet-suites/toilet-suit… and wall faced http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/toilet-suites/toilet-suit… and they will charge you extra if the product isnt like for like.

Maybe okay deal but buyer beware; the money you thought you saved my easily be wiped away or flushed down the drain!

Your URL's are broken I think. To connector toilets and wall faced toilets

      • Thanks heaps for the heads' up and the new links :)

        • Thanks for the detailed info. I think I'll stay away. It sounds too good to be true, and no point doing it cheaply if they do half a job and you are left having to do the rest.

        • +1

@Make it so: Exactly - the 'like for like' term is a plumber's goldmine. 100% you'll be paying more than $399 or spending another $50+ at Bunnings buying materials to patch up the job they've done.

    I used this mob.

Overall the toilet is good, but it took over 4 months to get it delivered and installed.
Also, in my case, I was like for like, but still needed to do plaster work myself to fix some of the wall damage.
They also don't take the old toilet away.
Okish if you are lazy, but if I had the choice to do it again, I wouldn't.

    • +4

That's a long time to hold it in!

  • Group dump ftw.

  • T&Cs:
"It may also occur that screw / fixing holes or inlet tap holes from the existing product being replaced may remain exposed after the installation of the new suite, due to differences in physical dimensions that occur between products. nu product and install is not responsible to repair such situations as they were pre-existing."

Just be mindful that toilet pans that are 20+ years old are generally larger than modern pans; meaning the above will most likely apply.

  • +1

TA should have posted this don't you think?

Speaking of which - don't forget 5% Flushrewards!

  • I changed my toilet myself. It did take about 2-3 hours of removing the old toilet, the measuring and putting in the new one. I guess you can get a reasonably nice new toilet here:

    https://www.masters.com.au/product/101887051/zeavola-granada…

and think about whether it is worth 2-3 hours of your time to save about $200. I do get tip vouchers from my local council every year so disposal wasn't a problem.

    • +3

I suppose it should be mentioned that it's not legal to change a toilet yourself unless you are a licensed plumber.

      • this is the only thing stopping me lol

      • +4

If i do business on a illegally installed, will it considered as an illegal dump?

    • Opps.. didn't realise that. Thanks for letting me know. I always thought that it is ok to replace anything on the outside of the wall, like taps, etc.

      • Another thing to consider is that the warranty is void if the installation isn't performed by a licensed plumber, and if a leak or damage occurs, your insurance provider won't cover you.

  • Groupon grab something like 50% commission from the sales so the provider end up getting $200 to do the job. Almost guarantee you will end up paying more.
Measure your old toilet, go and find a "back to wall" model that fit best and find a plumber to install it. I did all that for less than $400, no extra painting/repair for the wall, and the plumber dispose the old one for me as well.

  • +2

Don't waste your time on this. I spent at least an hour, talking to them over the phone, sending them existing toilet dimensions etc. I was never told I need to pay extra. However, When the plumbing contractor turns up, it is clearly from the beginning he wants me to pay extra, telling me I may need to change this, change that. I ended up paying $70 more, and the install is the worst job I have ever have to pay. The toilet cistern sits a good 2 inch off the wall. The cement job he did is just plain ugly. He also smashed the old toilet trying to get it out so no chance of me offloading it either.

I paid for the $399 package and the toilet is the $200 toilet from Bunnings. So considering he only spent an hour installing it, that means the labour cost for that hour is more than $200. For a shonky job, it is just disgraceful.

    • Don't waste your time on this.

Unfortunately most of us need to do exactly that every single day!
