        • I too don't use debt and have never needed to so far. But I never know if circumstances beyond my control will change that. That's why I don't milk these deals (unless if they're relating to debit cards of course haha!). I don't need the few little cashback and points amounts enough to close any options I have of securing credit in the future if need be. But hey, if you do, then all the best to you I guess.

        • @johndoe1:

          The best way to solve your need for credit is to provide it for yourself, by yourself. Which means having on hand an emergency fund of a minimum of 6 months costs. Even better, minimisation of your costs is better than any emergency fund or bank (eliminate rent, grow your own food, solar panels, collect rainwater, bring up your kids right, surround yourself with loving friends and neighbours…).

          Furthermore, I always keep a few credit cards for which I pay no fees which collectivelly come up to around 20K, just in case (I used to work for a bank and as ex-staff can do so).

          Few little cashbacks? For the last 12 months I got around 3K of value from doing this (cashbacks plus Woolies gift cards-converted Qantas points plus Coles 100$ off plus other).

          Borrowing ia not always bad there are smart borrowing and dumb borrowing. I believe many people here with $100k hard cash saving in ing direct ready to spent but still using credit card daily, to get 45 days free interest on purchasing.

          @eisniwre:

          Depends on your values. I am against debt in principle. It is morally wrong (enslaving debtors, ruining the planet, overproducing, consumerism etc. etc.). It is not an accident that Jesus only once used force - to kick out money changers out of the temple. And I find it highly morally satisfying to rip off banks and big corporations as much as I can. I consider it my duty. Which is why I was the biggest bludger in the department I worked in the bank back in the days and I am still the biggest bludger in one of the largest corporations in Australia (working now).

        • @noskich:
          Way to justify your own laziness. I pity your bitterness.

        • -2

          @johndoe1:
          Not really, bludging only in the office, not out. Plenty of things to do out.

        • @noskich: I feel a bit better for you. Still plenty of pity though :P

        • -1

          @johndoe1:

          Pitty the 21K people dying of hunger daily.

        • @noskich: I do! I like to share my pity to those who deserve it. They get some, you get some :)

        • @johndoe1:

          ANZ called me in the morning asking me to send payslips. Greedy bastards will never learn.

        • @noskich: Haha looks like it's not only me that pities you! Even the banks see you need the cash and want to help out :P

        • +1

          @johndoe1:
          They may pity me, but I will have no mercy on them until the day they collapse. Keep ripping them off as much as I can.

        • @noskich: if the bank were a lion, you would be the equivalent to an ant to them. I just find it humorous that you think you'll make an impact. $200 is half a peanut to them. That's why I pity more how sad your life must be to be so bitter towards them. It's hilarious you think what you're doing will make a difference :P

        • @johndoe1:
          One day a terrible fire broke out in a forest - a huge woodlands was suddenly engulfed by a raging
          wild fire. Frightened, all the animals fled their homes and ran out of the forest. As they came to the
          edge of a stream they stopped to watch the fire and they were feeling very discouraged and
          powerless. They were all bemoaning the destruction of their homes. Every one of them thought
          there was nothing they could do about the fire, except for one little hummingbird.
          This particular hummingbird decided it would do something. It swooped into the stream and picked
          up a few drops of water and went into the forest and put them on the fire. Then it went back to the
          stream and did it again, and it kept going back, again and again and again. All the other animals
          watched in disbelief; some tried to discourage the hummingbird with comments like, "Don't bother,
          it is too much, you are too little, your wings will burn, your beak is too tiny, it’s only a drop, you
          can't put out this fire."
          And as the animals stood around disparaging the little bird’s efforts, the bird noticed how hopeless
          and forlorn they looked. Then one of the animals shouted out and challenged the hummingbird in a
          mocking voice, "What do you think you are doing?" And the hummingbird, without wasting time or
          losing a beat, looked back and said, "I am doing what I can."

        • @johndoe1: maybe not to those corporations but make difference to him self, ie $200 is an okay amount enough to buy gadgets on ozb.

        • -1

          @noskich: Haha cool story, you should be a writer of children's fiction. Might be more worth your time than the difference you think you're making!

        • -1

          @eisniwre: Exactly, it makes a difference to him, not the corporations. There's no need to pretend what you're doing is some 'noble' cause to bring them down. Just take the money and be happy!

        • -1

          @johndoe1:
          I am not pretending, I am living in accord with my values as much as I can.

        • -1

          @noskich: I guess you're just a typical hypocrite. you say "I was the biggest bludger in the department I worked in the bank back in the days and I am still the biggest bludger in one of the largest corporations in Australia". Yep, you hate them but you keep em running :P On behalf of us at Ozb who use banks, thanks! :)

        • @johndoe1:
          I keep sabotaging them, eating them both from inside as staff and outside as customer.

        • -1

          @noskich: Trust me, I work in corporate too, even if you're trying to do harm overall you're doing them good. There's something called performance reviews. Again, thanks for your work!

        • @johndoe1:
          Which is why I switch a company well before they realise what I am doing. Trust me, I perfected the system.

        • -1

          @noskich: I trust you 'think' you did :P

        • @johndoe1:
          Love to bludge matey, love to bludge. EDIT: I got approved. Work the system against itself matey until it collapses to the dustbin of history.

        • @noskich: Haha, keep dreaming buddy :) Since that's the only place collapse will happen! Shame at the end of your life everything you worked to destroy will be stronger and better than it is now. Painful last thought ain't it :P

        • @johndoe1:
          Collapse is imminent, I am just pushing it a micromilimeter closer to the edge.

        • @noskich: Sources please? Cheers bud.

        • @johndoe1:
          Read about peak oil, fractional reserve banking and climate change. It is clear as 1+1=2.

        • @noskich: If only those things proved your point. Sorry bud, still waiting on them sources! :P

        • @johndoe1:
          Do your own research, don't just wait for things to be presented to you for consumption.

        • @noskich: I would do my own research, but you're trying to prove a point that's incorrect, that's why I can't find info on it haha! Read what you're writing mate :P

        • -1

          @johndoe1:
          I am not trying to prove anything, you come here and comment on my behaviour and I tell you why I do the things I do. I am not your tutor or research mentor.

        • @noskich: I'm merely telling you you're wrong. Just looking out for you as a fellow ozbargainer before you end up like one of those old miserable people who realise too late that their angst towards the world (or corporations in your case) never amounted to anything! (I hope for your sake you aren't already the person I just described hahah)

        • [@noskich] and [@johndoe1] please continue your discussion in private maybe better? Kind of off topic…

  • Is this card better than the amex platinum edge?

  • Can you buy something privately, but pay through paypal using this CC and this will be considered an eligible purchase? Or do you have to buy things from a storefront?

  • Just got a call from ANZ today. They said this deal is not available to me but the 75000 points one does. But it requires spending 2500 within 3 months.

    • +1

      How did you initiated the question? Online chat? went to branch?

      • They just called me and said the $200 dollars deal is no longer valid and the card I am applying actually don't have any active promotion ATM.
        And then they suggested the $2500 spend for 50000 points promotion.

  • +1

    Definitely NOT targeted. I got no emails or invitations and was asked to send payslips today. Edit: Just got approved :)

    • did a walk in to nearest branch near my office, the staff said the offer only for online. quite disappointing.

      • Yup online only they give me card without offer i have cancel them luckily havent spent a cent

  • Are payments to utilities (water, electricity, gas) eligible purchases towards the $500?

    • Yes.

  • cApplied and got approved. However, no mention of the $200 cashback bonus anywhere in the offer letter or the Welcome pack. Any info on that please?

    • you better call and triple confirm your card has that offer before spending a cent.
      better sure than regret

      • I called and double checked both the credit cash back and fee waiver. Had to speak to 2 ppl but they can see it in the system.
        For the fee waiver however I had to talk to the retention team as the activation team could not see that part apparently.

        • Yeah only supervisor has access to see offer related to cc opening. About waiver, it should started in the offer letter you get in the mail. Please read again?

  • i tried to apply and got error "Unfortunately the promotional offer you have selected cannot be found or has expired.
    You can view ANZ's wide range of credit cards at https://www.anz.com/creditcards. If you are not automatically redirected within 10 seconds, please click on https://www.anz.com/creditcards" is there any other current url link that i can use?

    • That's strange as it still appears for me with the link at the top of this OP.
      Maybe it was down temporarily when you tried??

      It sais also that it expires on the 18th May.

  • seems to be working again

  • I know they say cashback will be credited within 2 months, but has anyone had their cashback come through yet?

    • $500 spend met on 03/05, cashback credited on 25/05. Not bad!

  • +1

    missed out, I hope they bring it back.

  • Just paid car rego, car insurance, and bi monthly water rates.
    A couple larger shopping outings at supermarket……and I'm not very far off spending 2500.

    In hindsight, I could have but this figure easily.
