90% off HDMI Cables and Audio Cables at Dick Smith

690

Saw this today and bought some HDMI cables for $0.40 each 1.5M.

90% off should be across all Dick Smith stores and this particular one I bought from Warringah Mall.

They also have other audio cable 90% off.

Wow that is cheap. I held out until they were 80 % off and then bought them as I did not think they would get further discounted than that.

    • me too. goodluck finding the better value twin packs though.

      • +20

        I bought 2 x 5M pack, "Just in case" I needed them.
When I packed them away at home, I discovered I already had 1 x 3m and 1 x 5m in my "just in case" box.

          A true Ozbargainer.

          @ilikeradiohead:
A 'true OzBargainer' would never have been able to find those previously purchased cables!

        • Lol I returned my 6x 1.5m $4 cables to OW after purchasing the 3x 2m + 1x 5m twin packs from DSE. Then I got 5x hdmi cables for $1 at target…

          -_-

Would be ok if we could find a store that had stock

  • I got changes $2 a piece for HDMI cables yesterday. How rude!

  • doesn't the tag in the photo say 98% off?

    • Only this particular one say 98% off but others say 90% off.

      • Did you see anything else worthwhile at Warringah Mall?
Is everything else at 90% off, or just the cables?

        • +1

A lot of people there buying DSE TV and a few JVC TV as in another post, RCA cable, HDMI cable, Prepaid phone, Prepaid 4G pocket WiFi, a lot phone case, tablet case, laptop case.

        • @superforever:
Did you see many 4G pocket WIFI while you were there?
          Thinking of getting one.

        • @movi4c:

Yes on 21April when I posted this.

        • @superforever:
Thanks mate. Will go now. Hopefully there is still stock. Do you know how much it is?

        • @movi4c:

They are 60% off and they have 3 models there. 3G/4G RRP around $50 and the 4GX one RRP $99.

They have around 3 to 4 on each models, they are inside the prepaid mobile cabinet.

might make my last DS visit tonight - raid the kids 5c pieces.

  • +3

98% off, but who in their right mind would have paid $22 for a 1.5m HDMI cable originally??

  • Got 2x 5m HDMI for $5 each at DSE Canberra, crap loads there.
Will look around tomorrow though for more impulse buys

    • Like a sucker, I paid $7.50 each at Penrith a couple of weeks ago. But then, I was there, and it's not worth it to make a separate trip.

plenty of stock at indooroopilly centro when i went in today. didn't even see this deal, just thought i should have a visit and pay my respects. ended up buying a couple of dual usb car chargers for $1. great design - they fit flush into the socket so they don't accidentally wiggle out over time.

    • dual usb car chargers for $1

I think most are 1A no good nowadays.

      • These are 2.1A

      • actually just double checked mine out of interest and they are 2.4A

    • +1

This evening at the Indooroopilly Centro store there are still plenty of Dick Smith Standard HDMI cables - 2m for $2.25, 3m for $3.00, 5m for $3.75. According to the signs they are 85% off.
The guy at the checkout said they are closing down on Friday next week.

So the actual end is coming soon then?

Anyone have a date when they close doors for good?

  • There's no cables at Parramatta and next to nothing else.

Someone mentioned a while ago that they shifted stock to stores that were selling better.

Anyone know what's out at Penrith store on Mulgoa Road? They got any HDMI cables?

    • Correct, most left over stock from stores that are meant to be closed down will be shifted to stores that are scheduled to close last.

I was there on Sunday and the cable section was barebones, definitely a few HDMI cables around but not the premium types.

  • their cheapo 1 dollar cables from china anyway

    • +4

      Whose?

      • Dick's

  • +2

Hurry up and close down already.

  • Sad to see those guys closing down! Will miss those old days walking around their shops looking for a bargain(Which i rarely found) …

  • I was planning to go and buy heaps of electrical cables and cut them up to use in projects but the gauge isn't thick enough of many of the cables…

  • Thanks OP. Scored some F patch cables made from quad with chokes and PAL adapters for $1.50 each

  • Went in the other day for screen protectors for my iPhone 5 and Note 3. Screen protectors still roughly $5+… ended ordering the screen protectors online.

    • I got few of them at $3 tonight. Was going to get some mini USB cable but stopped by $4 sign considering it is a "Made in China" product.

  • DSE have had some bomb clearance items in the past two weeks. Got a couple of 10 pack Eneloop AAs for $7.

  • Only thing I saw worth getting was hand held Gps but at 50% off they were still too expensive seeing as they were stock from 1990s
Unless they've moved mountains since then
And I think they have all that fenced off
Good news though there was plenty left
And some mobile flip phones, few left if grammy needs a new on

  • Anyone know if DSE stock 14 or 16 AWG speaker cable?

  • Does anyone know what spec these HDMI cables are?

    • They have some better one say suitable for 3D and FHD and some say for 4K. They are all only for around $1 to $2.

They also have some long tv coaxial cable which are also 90% off I reckon is very good value because they are quite expensive normally.

  • Let me toss another limited DSE deal in here. If you wander into a DSE, look around the TV's to see if you find any DVD players sitting on the shelf.

Here's what I found at Bondi Junction: Samsung BD-H6500 3-D BluRay DVD player, $34.50

Features: 4K upscaling of DVD's and BD's, smart hub, wifi, ability to use wireless kb and mouse to browse the web, ability to run samsung smart hub apps.

…. $34.50. RRP $199, street prices tend to be $125-$169, and people were excited last year when 2nds world had them (refurb) for $89.

Puts out a nice picture on my $393 (now about $349, I think) DSE UHD 41.5" TV, and turns it into a Smart TV.

The one I found was just sitting on the shelf, no remote, no box. Who knows how many hundreds of hours it's run for (but then again, it may have just been used for network streaming, which isn't going to tax the mechanical parts). But for $34.50, it passed the power-on, open-tray test, so I figured I'd take a punt on it. It worked out well. My hope is that it will last until UHD BluRays and players that can play them, are available at reasonable prices.

Perhaps someone inputting prices missed a leading "1"?

Where not to look: George St Sydney, Myer Foodcourt Sydney, Bondi Junction. George St had a decent Sony for $71.50, but missing power cord and remote, so not a good deal. All locations have the Phillips ones that get poor reviews online. I didn't even price-check those.

    • Most of the good blu-ray player should have already gone during the last DSE crazy special.

      • Agreed, but apparently some haven't. So my post is a reminder to have a careful look around if you're in the market for something good.

    • What you gonna do about the remote?

      • Buy an original part off the net for $25. Alternately, one could use a universal remote, but I'm not sure if that would require giving up some useful functionality.

      • +1

Update: I've created a thread for "The Great DSE Remote Swap" in the forums.

If anyone else bought a device without a remote, I wanted to see if I could help them out, by grabbing a handful from a DSE's $1 remotes box. I've got a list of the ones I grabbed over in that thread, and will swap for (of course) the remote I'm after, or other interesting small goodies people have found at DSE's firesale, like (coincidentally) Premium HDMI cables that I missed out on!

  • Any kind ozbargainers willing to part with 2 HDMI cables (I'm in Melbourne)? No luck getting any from the stores in the last few days unfortunately :(

  • When is the last day? Or is it different per shop?

    • I think today is the last day.
