    • What low price are you waiting for, jv?

Chromecast was $29 as a deal, this is $48. Is the upgrade worth $19?

    • I've never owned/used the first Chromecast, but I purchased this one the other day and it's great, would happily pay $50 for another one in the near future.

    • I don't think so.
My Chromecast 1's handle everything I throw at them.

IF you have a congested wifi neighborhood on the 2.4GHz wifi band, then this is good upgrade where it supports 5GHz band, provided that you have the dual band router already set up!

Not worth the upgrade from chromecast 1 unless your home network is slow otherwise you wouldnt notice any differences

Thanks OP. Just picked up two. Price matched at officeworks.

  • I have an Apple TV 3 which keeps disconnecting, will this be better for airplaying from my ios device?

I did some googling, am I correct in assuming that I
    1. Plug Chromecast into HDTV
    2. Download Chromecast app
    3. Select a site like azdrama or top100films
    4. Bob's your uncle?

    Thanks

    • No issues with my previous Apple TV 3, unless if you have your Apple TV 3 connected via WIFI, then it may be slow streaming wireless from your iOS device unless if you plug your Apple TV 3 directly to your home router via Wired.

      • Cheers, I have it connected via WIFI, I don't mind slow but it keeps disconnecting which pisses the missus off.

Considering that happy wife = happy life, I think I might bite the bullet and get one of these

  • Anyone know if Big W price match, wanna use my gift cards.

    • If they don't, buy a JB Hifi gift card and get them to price match. (Do they sell Officeworks gift cards?)

  • Does anyone know if they can be used to stream nrl live pass?

I was last year but I had to "cast screen" the resolution is terrible on a big screen due to the low quality stream from the app.

  • With Chromecast Audio, am I right in thinking that the main benefit is that it turns your speakers into a Pandora/Spotify machine without the need to connect your phone? Does it do anything else?

    • +1

No Thom. You will still need a casting device (i.e. phone, computer etc) to throw your music at the device. What it does do is effectively make a 'passive' system (such as amplifier or powered speakers) 'smart'.

      • +1

But you don't need to keep the phone or ipad 'connected' as once it makes the handshake between the CCAudio and your wifi network it will continue play the 'song' you have selected from spotify or other. ie. Your phone doesn't need to be streaming the music. It's not like playing audio via a bluetooth connection. Correct?

        • Yes. It streams. Advantages may also be in the bit rate and band (and flakiness over and above BT)

  • Does anyone know how well the audio CC works with iOS? So many reviews using with android but can't seem to find any on iPhone or iPad

    • Essentially, yes. You can use the speaker as a wireless speaker. I'm loving it, but it seems fairly niche.

  • Officeworks don't stock the audio as far as I can tell, based on website and store here in Perth.

  • Picked one up with JB price match, thanks!

OW already updated it's price to $48. Just bought one from them.

  • Just bought one stores havent been notifed yet

  • Thanks tightarse. Price matched at OW on my coffee break this morning. Old chromecast sometimes struggles in a share house + wifi speakers/lights (12+ devices) on 2.4ghz. Hopefully 5ghz/ac helps

  • I was given the original CC a couple of years ago and what total crap it was .. continual problems with trying to view anything and forget casting.. never was able to watch Netflix …sigh.
The Aldi media box which is rubbish beats CC hands down … how sad is that.
is this model any better …?
    Can you view HD..?
    Look forward to your opinions.

    • Looks like you've already made your decision.

  • First was a dud. Kept dropping out so unless this version is stable wouldn't get one even if it's a bargain. Anyone got both versions, just curious how they compare

  • I use my cromecast 1 everyday, If someone has both I would like to know how they genuinely compare. As far as streaming my music on cast i uploaded all my music onto onedrive and cast through that
