50 Pack 700MB/80min TDK CD-R Inject Printable Discs $2.84 @ Officeworks Clearance

1070

Saw this at the local Officeworks here in Townsville. The discs have been slowly getting cheaper since they went on clearance a while back (eg $5 to $3.80 to now $2.84). Presumably they're at other Officeworks locations too; if you can't find them, maybe have a look on the shelf as these didn't have a clearance tag on them for quite a while — and then they moved them into a giant pile.

Specs:

  • 50 pack of 700MB inkjet printable CD-R discs.
  • CD-R80
  • Up to 52x
  • Made in Taiwan
  • Compatible with inkjet printers with built-in printing functions

Not sure what else to say but for more details, just ask. Wrote 4 of them recently fine, no troubles. Not indicative of longevity or anything, but can't complain too much for less than $3.

  • gr8 deal

  • wow. does anyone know if they have a similar price in any of the SA stores?

  • Fantastic deal… Really wish I did not buy so many CD-Rs before…

  • Anybody seen these in Brisbane ?

    • Also would like to know.

  • Great find mate.

  • +2

as great as this deal is im gonna have to pass, i still have 50 sony cd's i bought about 2 years back haha

  • They are probably clearing them because the cost ratio when compared to DVD-Rs are still bad.

Nevertheless, really good if you still have an old cd player in your car.

  • I love me a good clearnace.

  • great deal, i still have an old cd player in my car =p and ran out of cd's

Will give a look in Brisbane on wed when i'm free if they're still there

    • OW in Brisbane City doesn't have them :(

  • perfect, i just used my last cd on the weekend, i go through heaps as a dj, hope they in my local, ill buy 5 packs lol

  • "Made in Taiwan" … are they as good as "Made in China" :O)

    • +1

Made in Taiwan will most likely be of better quality than those Made in China I think

  • good to see some1 from the same town…… much appreciate…. definitely will get those

  • Anybody know if these are available in WA?

    • +1

Didn't see them at the East Perth branch today :( :(

      • WA always has the lousy end of the deals = NONE :( :(

  • Wow, that's an amazing price, well done. These TDK spindles used to go for $9 at Hardly Normal. Before this the best price I ever saw was the $6.99 Base spindle of 50 at Target. Unfortunately I still have lots of CD-Rs left and probably have no more use for them except for making Linux CDs for people.

  • Forgot to mention there was about 50+ packs there in the massive pile here in TVL. Should be enough to go around :)

Anybody see any at QV Melbourne? Might go take a look at lunch time.

  • went to liverpool in nsw, none left, was advised by salesman that theres more at wetherill park and fairfield office works :) happy hunting people

  • No matter how cheap the spindles for CDs are getting, I still reckon they're not worth buying. Prices are also dropping for DVDs, with a decent LG 50 spindle from MSY being $12.

    Compare the two:

    50 CDs = $2.84
    Cost per CD = $0.0568
Data per CD = 0.7 GB
Data per dollar = 12.32 GB

    50 DVDs = $12
    Cost per DVD = $0.24
Data per DVD = 4.37 GB
Data per dollar = 18.21 GB (higher the better)

Also note that both CDs and DVDs take up the same physical space, allowing DVDs to occupy less physical space for the same amount data.

I burn CDs to play in my car.

      • same

      • -3

Don't know if these will work in the car.
I bought a spindle a few months back and they wouldn't play in my Corolla CD player.
The discs I bought had the same packaging and were made by Imation.
TDK used to use another manufacturer which I found were of better quality.

        • +2

They work fine in car CD players. It all comes down to the burning technique and software, and also the card CD player. All recent ones are quite tolerant with all brands out there

    • +1

Some images are 700MB. Would be a waste to burn on 4.2GB and sometimes its not even capable of being burnt to 4.2GB

  • +1

These TDK discs are perfect. I use them for distributing software and have yet to find a faulty disc. Inkjet print looks very good on the discs.

While these may be made in Taiwan and therefore people question their quality (umm, why?), TDK is a Japanese company.

    • +1

The company's original location means very little now. Most manufacturing has been shifted to cheap locations like Taiwan, China, India, Malaysia, etc. Very little media is actually made in Japan. In fact since Taiwan has been at it longer, my experience is that the quality is generally better than those from China or India.

      • I wouldn't touch any media products from China or India. Taiwan has years of reputation and experience making consumable media products.

      • +1

Agreed. The quality of the media is more important than where it's made.

For the record I use Taiyo Yuden discs above all others. They're manufactured by a Japanese company of the same name and are often rebadged as other brands, such as Verbatim. TY helped write the recordable CD specifications in the late 1980s and are recognised as making high quality discs. The only problem is getting hold of them (MSY stocks them, but few other stores do).

        • +1

I order them from JPL Displays, a Melbourne company.

  • Are these available in NSW?

  • Amazing deal, ill try pick some up in the morning

  • Anyone know if these are available in SA?

  • Just been to OW in QV store Melbourne, their price is $17.

    • +1

thats the price of tdk 50 pack dvd-r

    • Sure? It's $11.95 normal at my nearby OW. Did you read the DVD-R spindle by accident?

  • peter787, yes, you're right, I was looking at the DVD pack. silly me. ta.

  • Are these available anywhere apart from Townsville?

  • Not available at OfficeWorks Noarlunga, South Australia. Is this a one store only deal?

  • not available in North Ryde (on Epping Rd)

Ended up buying the Imation 50-CDRs for $11.95

Not a bad deal I think.

  • it's not a one store deal, it a officeworks wide price, but not many stores will have stock.

  • I checked out the OW at Mona vale today after seeing this post, but they dont have it. Thier price is $17
I think it IS a one store deal.

  • Not available at that price in Wagga Wagga store. It was at a much much higher price.

  • they are the same price at every store, but very few will actually have stock left.

most stores are selling tdk dvd-r at 17.95 which are packaged the same, it seems some people are getting confused by this.

  • Not available in Glen Waverley (VIC) either

  • not available in Melbourne City QV Store (VIC) either

    • Not available as in no stock?

  • If it is on sale only at certain stores, I wonder if Officeworks will price-match against themselves. For instance, could you get the North Ryde store to price match agianst the Townsville store. Their policy seems to suggest they would. http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/Lowest-Price-Gu…

I know a friend of mine who did that with Hardly Normal. He got one HN store to beat another HN store's price.

    • If I'm going past (and there's any left) I'll get you a receipt & scan it in if you need it. Otherwise, can always try getting your store to call the one here.

    • This is the price scanning at point of sale, so price is reflected upon all stores. If they have stock is another story…

  • Not available in Sydney CBD (NSW) either

  • None at Fairy Meadow. :(

    • Yes, not stocked at FM. Only TDK GOLD for about $15/50pk.

  • not available at Hoxton Park Rd store. End up buying a TDK earphone on sale for $3.50 (orginally $19.95).

  • Not available at either North Ryde or West Ryde

    • I reckon I saw a bulk stack of these at West Ryde about 3 weeks ago, marked at full price ($11?)

      Sure they're not there?

  • sounds like a manager's special.

  • Poked my head into Artarmon OW on the way home. No more TDKs in that kind of pack, only the gold ones. They have Imation stacks which look like the TDK stacks at first glance, but are full price, at $11.95. So no more stock there it seems.

You could always get the $6.95 stacks (CMC made) from HN if you are desperate.

  • none in subiaco officeworks - perth
