INTERNAL MEMORY - 8GB with 2.5GB end user memory

This might be problematic, only 2.5 GB usable…

    • microsd

    • Just get yourself a memory card to solve this issue as you can choose your default storage between phone storage or SD card.

      http://i.imgur.com/bp70CW6.png

      • +2

Yes…. but does it allow EVERYTHING to be moved to SD card? Like facebook apps and google services? Lot of phones don't allow this to happen :(

        • Can't comment on the Facebook app that was the first thing I deleted. On Google play services you can't move it.

        • +2

I believe Google has removed your ability to move apps to SD card a couple years ago, I am sure there must be an unofficial way, but officially you probably can't.

        • +2

          @CraigZheng:

It's back on Lollipop you can move apps to SD if the app developer allows it.

        • @chadiwrx: I didn't know about that, thanks.

        • @CraigZheng: Don't hold your hopes up, Google apps are still non-movable to SD card.

        • @chadiwrx: ok…. if its the 'if app dev allows it' then means that most apps can't be moved to sd card, and you'll have space issues on this device.

Its why I asked if 'facebook' can be moved as its a common app around and the app dev doesn't allow it to go to SD card :/

You'll have to wait for a android 6.0 update (if ever) to allow merging of the SD card into the internal storage, for true any app to SD card.

    • You actually have 4.7GB useable and 3.7GB free. Still tiny yes but not too bad. You won't try and play modern combat on this

    • My old Android 2.3 phone couldn't install even a single 30 MB app after Google decided to make the improved Play store occupy hundreds of megabytes.

  • How is the performance compared to LG Leon?

    • The MTK6735 in the Pixi 3 outperforms the Snapdragon 410 in the Leon in both CPU and GPU performance.

      • +2

but the MTK6735 is 1.3ghz, and the specs on the Optus site reads as quad core 1ghz.

This might be the Mediatek MT6735M which is the slower clocked version @ 1ghz rather than 1.3ghz. It might not be as fast, or could be slower than the Snapdragon 410.

    • Web browsing performance is great. Scored 16k on antutu.com html5/CSS test. My other OneplusOne got 20k, and Galaxy Note 4 18k. So not bad at all for a 30 bucks phone.
Major letdown is the screen. Not sure how to explain but I was nauseous after 10 mins doing texting and browsing on this phone. Not just that its resolution is very poor but there appears to be some refresh issue when you scroll too quickly. Definitely not the processor, but it's the poor screen.

      • That's probably due to ghosting due to poor pixel response times (typically a computer monitor has 2ms or 5ms)

      • Get 19k with zte fit. And 18.5k with iPad air 2 on that browser benchmark.

Edit: 28k using puffin browser instead of chrome. :)

    • I have both of these and Leon is better reception and clear screen.

  • The is just as good as the telstra buzz at half the price.

    • +2

Telstra buzz screen much much better than this. Source : using it for four months now.

      • Yeah I just saw the hands on video. The pixie's screen seems horrible.

      • +1

How do you know its better just from using one of the two?

        • I walked into the store and tried the phone last week to buy one for my friend and compared both. Last time I saw tft screen on a phone was the first generation Nokia touchscreen.

        • +3

          @newozbargainermelb:

You know its a $35 smart phone, right?

        • @tranqme:

Yeah, but the Buzz was as low as $50 last year, so it's good competition for it.

It would be unreasonable to compare the Pixi 3 to say… an iPhone 6S.

        • @StrayfireX: $63.20 actually. However it came with free Monster DNA headphones around christmas time

        • @realfancyman:

Yeah got down to $50 at DSE.

"DSE have also discounted remaining stock of their prepaid mobiles by 50% RRP. At ours, the Telstra Buzz is $50…"

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2328855&p…

Also I vaguely remember people reporting some elaborate combination of price match and mates rates to get it down to $50 without Monster DNA headphones.

        • I have both, as a phone I'd take the Buzz over this one if you intend to use it to make calls etc. I use them both as cheap 4G hotspots as I have with access to 700Mhz network.

        • +1

          @BargainKen:

The Telstra Buzz lacks 900 3g, so if you were to use it on anything other than Telstra it will have coverage issues. The only thing this phone has going for it over other cheaper phones, it's cheap to unlock and it'll work on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone better than most other cheap phones. The other alternative for cheap phone that will work on all networks is a Lumia 532, but then you don't get 4g and is a windows phone. :)

        • @realfancyman: $53.20 after pricepal cash back ;).

        • @Ronnnie:
Yes I forgot about the 900Mhz 3G though with all the spectrum refarming going on for 4G it may be a matter of time before its a non issue. Most of my optus/voda use has always seen 2100Mhz even in areas where 900Mhz is available (for some reason my handset would always choose the higher frequency). However having said all that, I purchased the handsets for their 4G band support for cheap wifi device, plenty of quad band 3G devices out there even at this pricepoint (lumia 532 @ $29 was an excellent example - I purchased one of those also :).

    Happy Mother's Day???

If you knew anything about mother's you'd get her a decent phone! Why? Because otherwise it's going to be constant nagging with 'Why isn't this working?'

    • Yeah just save yourself the trouble and get her an iPhone. I saw this as a diehard android user.

      • +9

iPhone is maybe not suitable if your budget for mother's day is $34.50

    • +1

Well, I took this opportunity to wish all ozbargainers's mothers for the Mother's Day. I didn't mean to buy this for anyone's mother ;). I've read few ozbargainers saying this is a better specced phone so I thought it will be useful for some who are looking for a cheap backup phone.

      Happy Mother's Day ozbargainers' mothers.

      • +2

I know dude :) The effort of posting this was very much appreciated!

Was more a comment for anyone considering purchasing this as a regular phone. I've dealt with my fair share of nagging with various females of all ages.

        Anyway, thanks again!

        • +1

lol i am using this as my regular phone right now to replace my dead sg s4.

  • +1

@kronic That's bonding. Mums love that.

  • +1

3G talk time: Up to 3 hours

  • Can this to unlockies?

  • Ive got 3x cheapy Telstra phones that I cant unlock…this seems good if it will actually get unlocked via that ebay link

    • +1

I bought 2 of these phones from the previous half price Coles deal & unlocked them without no problem.

I used this person on Ebay for a $1.30 per unlock code.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252278834676?_trksid=p2060353.m27…

    • Or get free unlock by flashing a zip thru twrp. There was a link on ozb from a different deal of this phone.

  • +1

Is this deal online only or in store as well.

  • still showing $69 online

    • Looks like deal is over

  • It changes every 48hrs…now back up again. Someone said it was cheap at Kmart ($24). Anyone confirm?

    • naw. still $69 at kmart

  • oh DAMN i was going to buy it and it's gone back to the full price… PISS

btw was there any delivery fee?

    • +1

Go to your local auspost shop quick.. They're still open right now today. $39 though. Same Optus version. Got mine yesterday

  • +1

these are $39 at BIG W and AUS post

    • This isn't just a 3G version, it is no where near as good. Only has dual core and worst of all only 512MB of RAM.

    • a completely different device - its very bad to use, even at $24 give it a miss

currently $39 at AUSPOST for the 4g model

      • isnt that just $19 at officeworks?

        • +2

          hal9000

          2 different devices

          Alcatel Pixie 3 4.0 - $19 @ Officeworks or $24 @ Kmart

          Alcatel Pixie 3 4.5 4G - $39 @ AUSPOST currently the cheapest

          *confused by the names?

I've used the Pixie 3 4.0 and its painful - I gather the 4.5 4G is a much better device (faster CPU/RAM). The biggest downfall of the devices is the TFT screen!

  • Whats the go with ebay unlockers? as I want to unlock it to Telstra. They say on the ebay pages that they have to send a physical code in the mail are they just doing that for show as I don't want to wait a couple bloody weeks for a code that could be sent through email in 2 mins. Can anyone fill me in if they just email it to you. Cheers

    Worst phone ever

    • -1

No really it is. As a former owner i would highly recommend avoiding. If not you will find out for yourself, so i guess it doesn't really matter either way.

      • +4

Ive seen plenty of phones worse than this.
I bought one for 35 and at that price am very happy with it.
Its got its faults for sure, there's a bunch of small problems. But I only wanted something for people to be able to ring me on (I dont really make calls) and was hoping the 4g would make it a good backup modem. Its great for both those purposes and turns out its great to play little games on.
        Different expectations I guess.

  • +5

Some people expectations of a phone that sells for $69 rrp are unrealistic. It's pretty amazing the type of phones you can get at this price point nowadays. I remember buying cheaper virtually unusable pieces of junk a few years back at triple this price. This phone has a relatively recent version of Android, plenty of bands, 8 mp camera, quad core soc with 1gb of ram. It's amazing to me that we can get a phone this capable for around $50, but then my expectations that these phones are going to be a pos. I have been surprised by how good they are, and even playing mobile games like GTA SA runs on them. Of coarse it's not going to offer flawless performance, but this is a $35 phone. What do people expect for $35? lol

This item is for sale at Coles for $34.50 this week. Not mentioned in the catalog however I was able to pick one up at the price instore if anyone still wants one.
