    interesting route/carrier options!
star alliance so looks like they use qantas for domestic legs, not a bad find!

    • +1

      What about arms?

    • +1

Qantas is part of oneworld, not star alliance.

More likely the reason for using Qantas is their interlining agrement.

      • my bad - might've just purely been the best price & schedule available via IWTF too for the mel-bne bit

  • New York, New York, it's a hell of a town.

Great offer from a decent airline too!

    no.27 in top 100 Airlines 2015 http://www.worldairlineawards.com/awards/world_airline_ratin…

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but there is NO WAY Air Canada finished behind Malaysia Airlines in both 2014 http://www.worldairlineawards.com/awards/world_airline_ratin… and 2015 http://www.worldairlineawards.com/awards/world_airline_ratin… surely…

      Heh, hijack

Thanks for putting the lot of us on the watch list. #HeyASIO

Hey i didn't put Malaysia airlines and hijack in the same sentence

Flew with them a few times, no better than the American carriers really, i.e. pretty depressing.

    • malaysia airlines has consistently being a world class airlines. their service is amazing. im malaysian and have flown malaysian for last 20yrs. unfortunately they just had a string of badluck. It's really sad. glad the givernment is keeping thd carrier afloat. it also has a really good safety record. that's until…. cant believe their badluck.

even malaysians are preferring to fly with air asia than MAS.. because it now has the badlyck stigma attached to it. It's very safe. i hope that it can regain its glory one day.

Good price especially for NY. Thought about going through their on our trip home to Ireland but opted not to this time.

We've booked a round the world trip for $2600 each at Christmas time. Our flights are Brisbane -> Vancouver (8 days). Vancouver -> San Francisco (8 days). Then San Fran -> Dublin (3 weeks). Return leg is Dublin -> Hong Kong (2 nights) then to Brisbane. Journey between December 2nd to January 12th. Few airport stopovers but no journeys are ridiculous timing.

Booked through flightcentre. Online prices were approx $750pp more expensive!

      sounds amazing!

Seriously jealous! Sounds awesome. Have a good trip mate

    • -1

      that's quite expensive.

      • Please link me to somewhere cheaper for those dates. Quite expensive my arse. For a frequent flyer to Europe I can assure you this is very good value for Christmas time going through US and Canada.

Are the connections to NY via Vancouver? And are they all exiting Australia out of Sydney?

    • +2

      All via Vancouver

      For the flights I saw:

BNE: Exits Brisbane —> Vancouver —> Newark
SYD: Exits Sydney —> Vancouver —> Montreal —> Newark (return skipped Montreal so may be a one off)
MEL: Melbourne —> Brisbane (Exits) —> Vancouver —> Newark

Thanks OP! Any good prices to Moscow?

  • +2

    Any business class fare deals?

  • Great prices, I just want to fly Brisbane to Vancouver, spend a week there and then go to NYC. If I don't board the first flight to NYC, would I have any issues on the return flight departing from NYC?

    • +1

You might. Airlines do cancel return legs if you don't show up for one of your connections.

      • +2

Ouch - I'd prefer to keep my legs thanks. 👖

    • it doesnt work like that. vancouver has to be a stopover and you gave to pay taxes.

  • Great prices - got Flight Centre to match - no problem!

Great accomodation deals in NYC on hotels.com - when booking on hotels.com mobile app use "MOBA" discount code for an extra 10% off. I got brilliant 4.5* hotel in midtown for A$250 / night which is pretty good considering our weak currency!!

    • Hey! Due to your comment I've discovered that Flight Centre is open 24/7! Thanks :)

      • +1

Flight centre do chartered helicopter rides now?

air canada provides inflight unlimited maple syrup.

  • Can you do a stop over in Vancouver (either direction is fine) ?

    • I called up Air Canada today, they said it would have to be booked as a multi- city ticket. So more $.

  • Does anyone know how to book these tickets using qff points through the qantas website?

    • You can't. They don't code share and are in different airline alliances.

  • Any cheap flight from Melbourne to Toronto around the same period?

  • This is the cheapest deal at the moment, but I've been monitoring the prices from Sydney to New York for July and August return, Air Canada's prices have been like this or cheaper for at least the past month if not longer.

I bought my ticket to New York on the 23 April and it was $AUD848 via STA Travel for American Airlines, with a stopover at LAX. The flight time is similar to QF11/12. But Air Canada's flight to NYC is better, as it flies to Newark (EWR) rather than JFK. Be prepared to add another $50-$100 to price if you catch a cab/uber to and from JFK, or hours of your time on public transport if you are going to Manhattan.

It pays to play around with the City to City page on IWTF webpage to find the best prices if you are flexible with your departure and/or return dates.

    • Be prepared to add another $50-$100 to price if you catch a cab/uber to and from JFK, or hours of your time on public transport if you are going to Manhattan.

Airtrain takes less than an hour to Manhattan and leaves from JFK. Taken it many times and its quite easy. LaGuardia on the other hand doesn't have a train and is a pain to take a public bus.

      • Personally I'll avoid the subway if you are carrying a family's luggage with you. The subway is not very luggage friendly, especially if you need to change lines. If I'm by myself with one carryon it's not a big deal. I still prefer EWR over JFK for all flights. LaGuardia is for locals only! ;) Cheaper domestic flights but need to have a car.

the dates with AA are in offpeak season but you got a good deal

I booked withAir Canada 2 weeks ago. Tve deal has been out awhile and included dep till 8/12. I have been monitoring fares to NYC in peak season for yrs!! My husband is a teacher so can inly travel in school holidays.

i have 3/12 dep return 15/12. paid $1050 pp inc stopover in Vancouver. Air Canada allows 1 free stopover, additional 1 more at $135 + taxes!

you could do Canada and East Coast US for so so cheap. I could stop in Calgary and go to the Rockies, Banff, Lake Louise but then founx out that by that time the lakes are frozen over and -10deg!
If only we could travel off peak i would definately add Calgary to my stopover destination. It's free.

We are stopping over in Vancouver for 4 days on the way back and spending 2 nights in whistler. should be plenty of snow then. i bought it as a birthday present for hubby. kids free.

we really wanted to take the kids skiing because they love it and its so much cheaper than oz. but perhaps next yr because nyc isnt suitable for kids.. one of the best parts of nyc is the nightlife and bars.

whistler 2br apt in snow only $150 p/night in early season. its 4x the cost in falls creek. so so cheap.. kids ski free, hire, transport. next yr we will fly aur canada to lax via vancouver n do a kids 1 week snow and 1 week disney holiday. this us tge only year we are not doing disney since the past 4 yrs!

air canada us commencing direct flights to canada vancouver mud yr ex brisbane so expect a lot if good deals. if u want direct to toronto then newark have to go ex sydney.

    • btw if you go to boston, consider the $99 fares to iceland on wowair. its only 4 hr flight. so so cheap.

for just over $1k you could go oz - la - ny- iceland return on AA. even virgin had new york sale but dont know if it's still on.

    • When you say you would add Calgary as your stopover destination, how do you do it? Because from what I can see on the Air Canada site it's only Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto that are included in the stopover deal.

      • the stopover deal is only if you have 6hrs connection. thats something different.

        • So to add Calgary would be a Multicity?

  • go to iwantthaflight and check out flughts to newark. heaps of routes on air canada inc via calgary. can even check on air canada website.

we had bris - vancouver - calgary (stopover) - ewr - toronto -vancouver (stopover) -brisbane

i free stopover and 1 additional at $135 both +taxes. it was only $1220 inc taxes. without stopovers is only $980 rtn the dates were i think 5/12 to 21/12 so peak season.

but we decided not to ho to the rockies because it's too cold n we have very limited time.

  • Is this sale over? Lowest from Sydney in July is now $1216 via Air Canada.
