Great first post. Thanks for sharing.

Questionable genuine status though from ebay, at least with jbhifi its through the aus distributor and you have 1 yr warranty.

        • +14

Has no bearing on genuine or not. I bought a Belkin iphone charging cable with something like 300 sold, stating it was genuine, and when I got it, it was clearly not genuine. Most feedback from people was 'thanks, great cable, etc…' but maybe 2-3 negative feedbacks actually stated it was a non-genuine cable.

It actually has 2 years worth of warranty.

      100% certified fakes

There's a whole thing on Sennheiser fakes but I won't go there. Bottom line, if you want to be 100% you're getting the real deal buy from a reputable retailer.

      • +3

Yeah, the extreme number of cheap fakes on eBay pushed out the legit sellers of the original Sennheiser CX300 years ago (partly because the same design was also used for a number of different brands, including the equally-counterfeited Creative EP-630). By the time the CX300-II came out the scammers were the only ones left.

    • -1

Yea I bought some last week when my last pair broke just waiting for them to arrive.

    • +18

      $20… from eBay… for a heavily counterfeited product… and they come without a box…

I like a bargain as much as the next guy, but that is a risk I am not willing to take.

Live on the edge man ;)

  • +8

Bought some of these ages ago and they may as well be worth $10. The Xiaomi ones are better.

    • Link? Model no.?

    • Hybrid or Piston III?

      • -7

        Ummm, what?
It is well known that the Hybrids are a replacement and better than the Piston III's, so naturally the answer is both.

        Do you even OZBargain?

        • Question was for elitistphoenix as s/he has both.

I own the CX 300 IIs, Xiaomi Piston 3s and Hybrids.

Hybrids are better than Piston 3s.

Default out of the box, with the music I listen to (Jazz, Classical, 80s music, Asian pop and podcasts) I prefer the CX300-IIs to Hybrids.

Senniheisers seem less punchy in pop and that for me makes it more comfy for extended periods of music listening.

Obviously YMMV, but I feel like the Senniheisers are a bit more comfy because they sit a bit further away from the ear canal and a bit looser, so you don't have that in-ear air pressure feeling.

I think people would find the Hybrids sound better with any music with a thumping beat. It's harder to hear a difference with podcasts, classical or jazz. I would certainly prefer the CX300 II for the comfort. I'm really an 80 yr old in 22 yr old's body. :)

I only use the Xiaomi Hybrids daily with my phone because it's got a good integrated mic and volume controls (my Nexus 5 has a damaged mic).

Otherwise for a long gaming session, I'll use CX300 IIs, like I have been for the past few years.

The leather pouch for storing earbuds that come with the CX 300 II is pretty neat too. I find that since using those pouches my earbuds last forever.

        • My wife is going overseas in 2 weeks and needs a pair before she goes. I've found 4th-gen AU stock for $40 on ebay/Shopping Square, whom I've never bought from before. Is this OK or should I look elsewhere?

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/100-Genuine-Xiaomi-4th-Generation…

I know overseas stock is a lot cheaper but they are needed within 2 weeks.

@psdillon: Stuff from China always takes ages. You might be able to pay for expedited shipping, but it might negate the saving anyway. Although you can get it for ~$23 from Everbuying at the moment.

        • +1

Better than being a 22 yo in an 80yo's body

    • +3

While not devaluing the deal posted here (as it very much is a deal) but this is also the conclusion I formed.

I have both. I regret the CX300 purchase. IMHO not only are the Xiaomi Pistons 3 better(1) in every aspect of sound, but the Xiaomis are much more tangle free.

      (1) I also think the Piston 3 jnrs are better, but my understanding is that the Jnrs use the same drivers as the Piston 3's.

    • +6

I have the same Sennheiser CX300-II ( got it from DSE), Xiaomi Piston 3 & Xiaomi Hybrid. The Xiaomi Hybrid is the best between all of them.

  • How do they compare to competition in this price point? e.g. Xiaomi Hybrid IEM

    • +1

I love these phones but find the sound of the Xiaomi Pistons 3 and Hybrids very similar at a fraction of the price.

    • +13

Such think is exactly the reason why some manufacturers can keep their prices at a ridiculous RRP level.

    • +11

Yeah and we aren't talking about some unknown technology that only certain companies can create either we are talking about in-ear headphones.

Nor are we talking about "some Chinese brand": Xiaomi has exceptional build quality and performance. They are already the "Apple of China" to a market with 3 billion people.

Nor are we talking about an infallible brand because there is plenty of Sennheiser crap along with the greatness.

    • +3

sennheiser are masters at what they do.

The CX300 was a design Sennheiser bought from a Japanese company called Foster (which is why there were half a dozen different models with identical casing but different internals, which created a bonanza for counterfeiters). I believe (I could be wrong) that Foster did the manufacturing for Sennheiser too.

I haven't looked into it but I don't have any reason to assume the updated CX300-II model is any different.

  • +6

I would normally jump at this. The CX300-II are my favourite pair of earphones.

However, I decided to see what the Pistons fuss was all about and bought one, the Hybrid.

I have to say the Hybrid is as good as if not a little better than the CX300-II at $25, plus the Hybrid has a microphone and suitable for Android.

Having said that this is a very good price for a very nice set of earphones.

    • Thanks for sharing the great review.

  • +2

I think these are very good earphones. I have these and Piston IIIs and I much prefer the sound of these. Haven't tried the Hybrids, might be my next purchase. I remember the CX300s would regularly be around this price from Dick Smith (then $99 the next day), although these are not worth $75.

  • Good headphones but honestly still too expensive considering they don't have a mic, controls and there are just as good Chinese versions you can get with controls and a mic.
But worth getting if you don't care about those things, and especially if you dont want to have to wait for a few weeks for delivery.

  • I haven't used these, but I'd personally recommend these budget earphones, the Panasonic ErgoFit RP-TCM125-K. Here's an Amazon link (has all the details) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E4LGVUO

They have a mic, plus a media play/pause button. Plus, the sound is very decent for the price and they are very comfortable (come with 3 different size rubber covers).

I bought them for ~ $20 a few weeks ago from Dick Smiths (RIP) but I've seen them around everywhere.

  • Can anyone tell me where I can grab a pair of these Xiaomi Hybrid earphones? I'm guessing no aussie retailer sells them?

  • +1

With the correct EQ profile, or convolver, these things are great.

  • +1

Same as many in this thread; I've had the CX300-II and the CX280 as well as Xiaomi Piston 2, 3 and now even the Xiaomi Hybrids. I loved the Sennheisers for years and they served me well, but the Xiaomi Hybrids are my current favourite.

  • +2

For $10, these Philips earphones are really good: https://www.target.com.au/p/philips-in-ear-headphone-she359-…

    • Surprisingly good for the money, and my first IEM; the Sennheisers are in another world in comparison though.

  • I got this and the xiaomi piston 3. I definitely recommend people to get the xiaomis instead.

  • I own red CX300 and have been very happy with them. Good price for these ones

Must admit I've never tried xaiomi

  • Was thinking of getting. Read this review: www.whathifi.com/sennheiser/cx-300-ii/review

"They do require some running in before they perform at their best, but after a few hours of play your music's high frequencies sound crisp and fresh, while bass notes display dexterity and discipline."

Not sure what to believe now. Will pass.

    • +4

That's pretty normal with most speakers isn't it though? And what about this review makes you pass on these? >> "FOR: Great clarity, detail and texture, comfortable. AGAINST: Nothing of note."

I find these earbuds great. I'm not a fan of silly remotes/mics getting in the way so the fact this doesn't have one for me at least is a plus. They're also quite flat (in a good way - they sound natural and don't colour the sound too much). Also a plus is the asymmetrical cord and right angled plug.

      • +1

I don't think my ears are sophisticated enough to discern bass with dexterity and discipline.

        • +3

So you're saying you're passing on these earphones because of some big words you don't understand that were used in a review that you read but didn't really believe in… lolololololol I am so confused…

        • @brotherrfranciz: Big words? Not really. Just that I have no idea how they relate to bass. Just like I expect you won't understand how this response is chromatic and salubrious even though I say it is.

        • @thevofa: I get what you're saying. Descriptions of speakers/sound can easily come across as just audiophile nonsense, but it's just a fancier way of saying the bass is good, but not too over-blown or "saggy". That's why I consider these fairly "flat" sounding. By that I just mean they sound pretty balanced.

        • @thevofa:

But you get what I mean right? You're not sure about the review to begin with, but you're using the review as justification for not buying the earphones? To add to my confusion, you having no idea how those words relate to bass has put you off buying the earphones, when those words are just someone's opinion and have nothing to do with Sennheiser product advertising. Maybe I am just misunderstanding your posts… Sorry. :P

        • @brotherrfranciz: Don't be confused - it's not that important. I was obviously interested in them enough to search some reviews but not enough to actually buy them. Maybe a more sensible, dexterous and disciplined review would have swayed me the other way.

        • @thevofa: damn dude.

    • Yes, they sounded fairly flat straight out of the box. However, as with all decent audio drivers, 100-200 hours of play and they free up quite nicely.

I was tempted to return them when I first bought them, I was quite upset with the quality for the price; however after burning in, I'm now very happy with them.

    • +1

Thats audiophile bs - they're excellent headphones, just consider the positive comments here.

  • any cheap and reliable noise cancelling ear/headphones?

    • +1

If you can get a good fit with the earbuds with in ear earphones, they are effectively passively keeping outside sound out.

    • +1

Not in my experience, I am yet to find a a good noise canceling at a cheap price, if you travel a lot, the bose qc25 are well worth their price.

    • +1

Yeah what the above said: it's critical to any in-ear headphone to have an airtight as possible seal between the tips and your ears.

As well as isolating you - meaning no need for noise cancellation (for many people) - no in-ear headphones can really sound good bass wise without a good seal. Presumably because if it's sealed it only has to move a few mLs of air rather having the sound wave escape to outside the ear.

  • +1

The MM30i/g are just as good sound quality wise and has remote and mic. Usually are around that price or even cheaper.

  • +3

Owned a pair of these a few years ago, didn't particularly like them, i found them too bassy and muddy, they also suffered a lot from sibilance (tonal harshness) while providing little soundstage. The lack of inline remote was annoying as well as the asymmetrical cabling. I returned mine a few months later due to the right channel failing. I have since tried many others headphone/in ears before finally settling with my current daily drivers the UE900, completely different thing compared to the cx300ii and definitely not for everyone.

Do your research there is so much out there in terms in ears and headphones, these are my personal recommendation in terms of budget in ears:

If you're a basshead, you can't go wrong with the Philips 3590 for $10 posted in the comment above, they are one of the bassiest in ears have owned, while not compromising the mids and highs too much.

If you want something a bit more balanced consider the Xiaomi, their build/sound quality is good for the price (xiaomi 2 for more coloured sound, 3 for more refined, haven't tried hybrid).

The Sony EX150AP on the sony australia website are also fairly good sounding for the price when discounted to $29.

The Panasonic Ergofit HJE120/125 ($10 ebay) are very comfortable while sounding similar to the sony ex150ap, the only down side is build quality, mine broke a few months in.

Lastly if you you are set on getting these cx300ii, I don't recommend you get them from ebay as they are most likely counterfeit, google it. Also local stock comes with 2 years warranty last time i checked which definitely came into use for me.

  • +2

Picked up 2 pairs to add to the pair I'm already using. Yes, that's how much I like these earbuds! Though I'll probably give a pair away as a gift.

  • Headphones Type - In-Ear
    Headphones Use - Street/Fashion
    Colour - Black

I think they've accidentally labelled these in the Beat's category..

I have these and the CX-400 & 500`s and unlike beats, these are actually great for sound not fashion.

The only downside for me on the 300's is the lack of Volume Control, otherwise 2 thumbs up!

  • +1

One thing I'd rather have piece of mind of local warranty with the sennheisers. Some ppl might not use their headphones or go through them quick as I do though.

  • +3

Great price for fantastic earphones. Brings it down to $26 C&C if you have the $10 voucher from their price stuff up with the Samsung washing machine.

The small features of the CX300-II I love aside from the sound quality and isolation is the reinforced plastic shell around the plug. Compared with the Xiaomi which has a straight plug that can bend when you sit down (if you keep your device in your pocket like me), the CX300 has a right angled reinforced plug which barely bends, meaning it's much more durable than the Xiaomi.

Also the CX300-II has an asymmetrical cable; the right earbud has a longer cable than the left one. This lets you wear the earphones across the back of your neck. The Xiaomi has a symmetrical cable, so you can feel it tugging on your ears a bit when you're walking. The asymmetrical cable on the CX300-II eliminates that.

Lastly I've had fantastic dealings with the Sennheiser warranty service. When 2 of my CX300s finally broke due to the constant bending of the plugs from sitting/standing (these were the CX300-Is which did not have reinforced plugs) I sent them to Sennheiser and they sent me brands new ones (upgraded to CX300-II as well!) all within a week.

So I would highly recommend these earphones to anyone.

    • was the code only sent to those who ordered the washing machine (and presumably didn't get it)?

      • +1

Yeah those who placed their orders and had their cards charged were given refunds and a $10 voucher.

    • the CX300 has a right angled reinforced plug which barely bends, meaning it's much more durable

Every pair of headphones that I've owned that has failed has failed due to this reason: plug bending like that. It happened to the majority of me headphones :'(

Why you no make every plug right angle?!

      *shakes fist

  • According to cached version of the Dick Smith website (which now redirects to Kogan), these headphones were $10 in the last few weeks of trading! Although you wouldn't have been able to find them, now I'm getting the feeling $36 is too much to pay haha

  • I ordered these for store pick up however they are apparently out of stock in stores in the metro Melbourne area, with there only being stock interstate or in regional areas - which is reflected on the website now with delivery as the only option.

  • -2

So all along people thought the ones on ebay are fake, judging by the price, well surprise :)

  • Have bought and regularly use two pairs of these, awesome earphones. But based on others comments I might need to check out the Piston's or Hybrid's.

EDIT: Just went and bought a pair of Hybrids to see what all the fuss is about :p

    • bassy and punchy for hybrid. surprised since only $20+ only.
