  • It's too much to hope this will work on buses and trams too… Not that I have much choice - I'll get on the bus and validate my card like normal anyways…

    • It's pretty clear from the Adel Metro site that it's train travel only, unfortunately

      • +1

Yeah I know… But I'm an Ozbargainer. I live in hope.

  • +7

Are they the 'Telstra' of public transport ?

  • +4

Lol. Why a "thank you" gesture? Why not apology or something along those lines?

    • +1

As an Ozbargainer, I'd rather receive the free rides than a meaningless 'oops' :)

    • +3

Because apologising means taking the blame for it, thanking you for patience implies it was unavoidable/out of their hands

      • Ah yes, thanks for your patience makes more sense. Just saw the thank you and was a bit o.O

        • +1

Personally, I'd have appreciated if they took responsibility and apologised, it seems they're too worried about tarnishing a reputation to be genuine with their customers

        • +1

@goodguy: Nobody takes responsibility for their actions anymore…the usual excuse they use is fear of litigation, but like you, I'm not convinced it's anything but a smokescreen for a lack of integrity.

  • This doesn't help anyone with a 28 day pass. They faced the same amount of inconvenience.

    • +1

I would be writing a letter. They should extend passes by a day

      • another reason not to have the 28 day pass. Unless you travel on weekends.
Being penalised for being on leave, rdo etc = no thanks!

        • -1

Hog wash. I save $19.40 every 28 days. I can have 3 days off in the 4 week period and still be in front.

Being penalised?! Maybe a 28 day pass does not work for you. I work a M-F job and generally buy a 28 day pass. Exceptions are when I know I have upcoming annual leave or extended public holidays like Easter.

Adelaide Metro should still ensure pass holders are not given unfair differential treatment and be given an extra day as well

        • @4agte:

I also work Monday to Friday and utilise the off-peak ticket option once per day. I don't travel on weekends (when I do it's for footy, so that's free).
I spend $1.91 and $3.48 per day x 20 working days per month = $107.8 (usually $95-100 after time out of office) - so, I actually save $12 a month compared to the price of a monthly trip pass.

I guess it works for some, but with the working environment becoming even more flexible these days, being locked into 28 days for $120 isn't for me.
In your situation you save 2.78 round-trips per 28 days. If you end up with 3 or more days out of the office from sickness or other reasons you are out of pocket.

Just my info for others if weighing up the pass. I agree you should be given the extra 1 day to your 28 day pass.

          Cheers,

Confirmed today, drop into the info center to claim a free ticket. They will record it against metro card number, presumably to prevent double dipping! Better than nothing, or a meaningless apology.

Does it include 'The Ghan' and 'Indian Pacific' (S.A. Track component)?

    • +1

They've got nothing to do with the government!

      • +1

As if that will atop persistent OzBargainers!

  • Public transport in SA has been a shambles for years and in return we get 1 free day of trains… Oh wow how enticing.

    • Be glad you're not paying premium fees as opposed to interstate public transport..

Less people = less demand for a regular service.

  • Gonna be packed as anything

    • It certainly was this morning

  • I'm from the Australian Capital Territory. I wish we even had 1 train. Instead our public transport is made up of buses that stop after 6pm or Australia's most expensive taxi cabs.

    • +1

You still have time, catch the first plane to Adelaide and enjoy free ride Thursday as much as you want! :)

    • That's because the politicians have to get back to the old folks home before curfew….

  • The train in that pic… Is that a VLocity?? :O

    • No, our A-City electrics.

      • lol that's great, you've got electric VLocity trains and diesel Comeng trains, and here in Melbourne we've got diesel VLocity trains and electric Comeng trains.

        • But which one is backwards?

    • Similar shell apparently…. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelaide_Metro_A-City_Class_40… both more or less Bombardier designs…

      • Yeah, I was stumped when I first saw that pic… I thought VLine suddenly ran on electricity!

        • The older 3000 class were originally to be converted to hybrids…..dunno if that's still the case…

        • +1

          @Forfiet:

Haha we still have those down here in Melbourne. Nearing about 35 years old but still in revenue service… on electrified lines.

        • +1

@Forfiet: They're diesel-electric (diesel converts to electricity) which can be converted to electric only if need be. Was originally meant to happen but pigs'll fly sooner than that

  • What they should do is start adding a third carriage to trains on the Gawler/Gawler Central lines.

The two carriages are always packed to the brim after 2pm.

    • There's no more carriages to do that!

    • Rubbish, anytime I go into the city there are always at least 4-5 carriages sitting in the 'out of order' areas.

They spend all this money electrifying one or two lines when they should be getting more actual trains so people basically don't have to sit on each others laps.

      • If we only had a spare $5mil…
