  • Anyone used this before and can share their experiences? Has an SSD which is excellent for the price.

  • is there any mention of how old these laptops are? I didn't notice on the ad.

    • reviews are from 2011 so i'm guessing around then? that'd make it around 5 years old… battery should be well and truly stuffed by now and looks like they sell for around $37 on ebay (the battery not the laptop).

Acer TravelMate 8481T were released in 2011H2 / 2012H1 so at least 4 years old. They are well built business laptops from Acer (whereas Acer Aspires are pretty crappy).

Seems like a much better deal than yesterday's Dell https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/247174 for $10 more. More RAM, SSD instead of HDD and much lighter.

    Dont buy.

    *Scam alert.

    • +5

probably need a bit more info?

      • +1

I don't see why you would neg someone telling you its a scam.

Go ahead, buy it, then come back and tell us how you didn't get your item, my first comment was made fast to notify others to not buy, in case they impulse purchase it.

          So what's your story?

        • Sold out. Looks like the scammers have taken off the product.

Did you check the past deals from Ozstock posted on this site? there are many, if this was a 'scam' company Ozstock would have been banned long before now

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/201964
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182762
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199068
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/190071
          Plus many more

There is always an inherent risk buying an ex-lease lappy/computer but the risk buying from Ozstock vs others would be no less or no greater. FWIW I bought this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/190071 last year and got what I paid for. Just posting a deal that may help some peeps!

          @stewartedin:

How can negative reviews on the comment bar show if people like you neg them?

Also reviews of this company are horrible.

        • @Avacardooo Rayy Mee: I didn't neg your post that's for others to decide

        • -1

just a point of accuracy, I didn't neg anything. might want to check you facts.

          regardless my query still stands.

        • @mrmagoober:

Removing your posts to make yourself look better? ha, what a joke.

        • @Avacardooo Rayy Mee: Removing what post? All my posts are still there. No edits no deletions.

A simple request for a bit of explanation on why people should stay clear seems to have been met with an unreasonable opposition. Not sure where the hostility is coming from.

        • @mrmagoober:

Do some research on the topic before you make a fool of yourself.

        • @Avacardooo Rayy Mee:

Sure that is what I will do. As (I imagine) always a pleasure dealing with you. Lots of slurs, not much substance or anything to corroborate your comments. And lastly an inherent lack of understanding on what forums like this are about, until next time Avacardooo Rayy Mee.

        • @mrmagoober:

Come back with facts instead of nonsense.

        • @Avacardooo Rayy Mee:

From your previous comments it seems like you aren't terribly interested in facts.

Like I said, I haven't neg'ed any of your posts (as you accused), I didn't edit any of my posts (as you also accused). It would be nice if you could explain what facts those accusations were based on? You also accused my of not doing my research for simply asking you why you called it a scam. It seems reasonable for someone to ask for something to be substantiated. Or are you saying it is not reasonable to ask for substantiated claims?

Anyway I'm going to leave it here. I don't really have the inclination to continue conversing with you. Cheers.

        • @mrmagoober:

I don't know why you continue to cry and wine over this topic, it is old, stop having a cry.

Incompetent people like you make my head hurt.

  • Bugger. Slept right through this.

And the laptop I was watching on ebay jumped way up in price too. Bah.

  • Back in stock. Just grabbed one…

    • and sold out again. are you anthony?

      Last Purchase by:
      Anthonys

  • Yep. Did I take the last one?

    • weird the last purchase changed to kric1941 now - its been sold out or maybe they add one stock in a time

  • For fellow purchasers - my laptop was shipped yesterday and I received it today around 1pm, in Sydney. Check your Orders page on Ozstock and you might see a tracking number in there for yours.

The laptop is as per the advertised spec and in excellent condition, with only a few very minor scuff marks on the lid. It comes well packaged, it's been physically cleaned up and has a fresh install on Win7 Pro 64 bit on it. There's the Windows license sticker on the bottom of the machine that you'd expect.

I'm not going to mess with Win7 too much and currently have Win10 installing on it. Very snappy machine, well built and has a solid feel. Battery was at ~30% out of the box which is only to be expected coming out of storage and time will tell how well it goes, but that's not going to bother me either way.

It's an excellent machine for the money and no concerns with Ozstock either. Very happy with the purchase.
