Chicken Breast Schnitzel Crumbed 30¢ Each (Was $2) @ Woolworths Barkly Square (Brunswick, VIC)

220

Woolworths at Barkly Square in Brunswick had too many of these chicken schnitzels in stock so they are selling them at a heavy discount. They are basically just pounded chicken breasts that are crumbed.

They had 30 on display in the deli and another tray and a bit in the back so maybe close to 100?

I bought 5 but haven't tried them yet.

    Great price.

They are basically just pounded chicken breasts that are crumbed

But surely that explanation was unnecessary?

    • wasny detailed enoguh… they are actually just eggs that solidified into meat which then are pounded. an egg is cheaper.

Well, they also sell Chicken Parmigiana Schnitzel which is the above but with herbs & spices. It was right next to it but selling for $2 or $3 so wanted to know the difference.

I used to eat these breaded chicken burgers that look like schnitzels which were already cooked so you just had to reheat them for a quick lunch. Whereas these chicken breast tenders aren't cooked so you need to make sure you cook them well.

      • those burgers are ok when they are on super special, say half price.
but they are a bit processed like nuggets, kinda.

Yeah very processed but they are great. I ate them for lunch for 2 straight years.

two years, you'll never want to eat a chicken burger again!

          @PVA:

I doubt he was eating chicken in the first place.
          ;)

        • @starionx:

Many of those processed chicken products are chock full of fillers like Soy Protein/Textured Vegetable Protein and contain barely 1/3 actual chicken.

          Buyer beware!

    • I love a good pounded breast….of chicken

If they're the same as the schnitzels Woolworths sell down here then you and I have a very different opinion on what constitutes 'basically just pounded chicken breasts'

    vomits

    • I agree, I foolishly purchased chicken schnitzel from the deli thinking it would be better than prepackaged on the shelves and it was grey reconstituted chicken - put me off all chicken schnitzels since…

      • Don't forget that they have also all been "thawed for your convenience" since they come frozen from the factory, so don't freeze them again. Yes, all Schnitzels from Coles and Woolies…

        • What's the issue with freezing them again?

        • @neil:

          http://www.favoritefreezerfoods.com/refreeze-food.html

It's fine to refreeze if you have complete control of how things are thawed and know they haven't been above a certain temperature, but can you know that with something thawed for you? Some schnitzel packets explicitly say do not refreeze.

  • You grew, we ate, we didn't love your texture, but it was either this or a Mcdonalds nugget. May you rest in pieces in our stomachs.
Now 1 minute silence for all the fallen fowl

pretty schitty schnitzel TBH, I'd avoid even if they were free.

  • Yep, bought two a while ago. Its got a weird flavour/texture. The second one is still sitting in my freezer.

are these a real piece of chicken or are they like a giant size chicken nugget. are the processed breast meat?
    price is good though.

    • +3

Chicken breast. Not like a nugget.
