    Hi Rep,

Considering you're doing deals on storage, Is there any hot-swap enclosures, Microserver, or anything else similar you can throw up a deal for, so we can possibly make something out of our storage?

I've been dying trying to find anything that supports easy swap (doesnt have to be hot) that isnt a QNAS, etc.
I just want an ITX or mATX box I can throw OpenMediaVault on and SnapRAID my stuff.

Running a Norco RPC-4224 24 bay 4RU case here. Works well. Replaced the midplate and fans. Wouldn't exactly describe it as ITX, but that's exactly what I'm running, since I only needed 1 PCIe slot and it was about the cheapest ECC sever board at the time. Unfortunately be $7,776 to swap out all the current HDDs with this deal though.

      • A not so portable heater for winter ;)

Does have handles, but yeah, not light. Ikea LACK coffee table with upgraded hardware it's mounted on is still holding up though.

They also do a 2U 12 bay case.

Can recommend the HPNxxL series as well as the Gen8 series - both with OMV. Install and running great for the last 3 years. Looks as though the G8's have had a bit of a price increase since I bought mine though.

  • So its just a drive?

From the title I thought it was a 6Tb NAS… Shame that would have been a great deal

    • Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. However, the hard drive model actually called "NAS HDD"……

any deals coming up on the 4TB ST4000VN000 ??

  • Would i be stupid to use this drive alongside a WD Red 6tb in a Raid1 (or Raid10) array on a QNAP NAS?

    • It will be working as long as they are at the same capacity.

  • Anyone got any feedback on this model? I really need to upsize 6 x 4TB.

I know Seagate is unpopular with some but a lot of that is based off a very bad batch of 3TB from a number of years ago.

If you mirror its unlikely you will lose data … if you like to live life on the edge like me use the 8tb archive ones unmirrored. Every 'clunk' I hear I grimace just a little more.

Not these drives specifically, but backblaze seems to think that in general the 6TB drives are pretty reliable.
      https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-q4-201…

By the way, want to sell your 4TB drives after you've upgraded? I have an enclosure with 2TB drives in it that could do with a boost… ;-)

      • TY Plastic Spaceman for the link.

At this stage I think I have plans for all of the old 4TB drives, I'm going to use them to replace a bunch of much older 2TB drives, and the 2TB drives will replace some throw around ancient 500GB drives.

Not sure what to do with the 500GB ones, the last upgrade all the 20-80GB ones got ripped open so the kids could play with the platters, guess I would probably do the same again. Cant see there being much demand for ancient, small capacity HDD's.

        • Heh. Wasn't really serious about grabbing your drives. I'll probably do something similar myself. Need some more fridge magnets. Only one thing holding me back with this deal - a personal bad history with Seagate drive failures (although based on the backblaze analysis it seems that is now under control). I would note that I'd assume that the 500 claims will be well and truly gone by now. I'd also note that one of my 2TB WD drives just recorded an "Offline Uncorrectable" error which indicates I need to hurry up and get something sooner rather than later…..

  • grabbed 2, seems like a decent deal
