  • Any cheap adsl modern?

  • Postage $19 to melb. Ouch.

    • I'd be all over this if it had free shipping. Sure it has its downfalls but $30 is a nice catch.

postage to ACT also $19.. and it is router.. not adsl modem.

I saw this recently but all reviews suggest it's absolutely woeful. DD-WRT compatibility either wasn't conclusive or available either. Seems like it's a pass.

      Has OpenWRT support though:

      https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/linksys/ea2700

      • Can we assume those broken features were fixed in the OpenWRT firmware?

        • Correction to my post above, that page only says how to flash new firmware, but there is no openwrt firmware available.

I can see several forums saying ddwrt is available, but only works for 2.4GHz, not the 5GHz band.

@Russ: Correction to my post too, it does have DD-WRT support, here's a guide http://haeberling.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/installing-dd-wrt-…

I just recall when I looked into it further there were issues (it may have been no 5GHz compatibility) when using DD-WRT. In all it just seemed like more of a headache than it was worth. But it is a great price.

  • Sadly, not sold at ow, so no price match.

A lot of people dig Linksys because they made the excellent WRT54 series in the past, but as of late Linksys have severely crippled their budget routers to fit the 'mum/dad' type users. They're also seem to be using Marvell chipsets now which can't run DD-WRT. This particular one seems to be compatible with Open WRT but still fraught with a lot of design flaws.

If you're a networking power user, forget all about the budget Exxx series routers.

I had the EA4500 which I bought from Shopping Express, which I sold within a month due to:

    • no wall mount
    • thicker ethernet cables difficult to work into the WAN / LAN ports because there's a lip at the back that obstructs the sleeving
    • Cisco connect cloud doesn't work when it's online. Cool interface though!
    • no DD-WRT support because the chipset isn't supported. Linksys doesn't want you to tinker with their low end stuff anymore.
    • very poor floor / wall penetration due to lack of external antenna
  • Well.. Its still branded Cisco - the previous parent company and was sold off in 2013. Hence this is at least 3 year old stock.
