    inb4 wait for [new gpu]

    • IMO seems only worth waiting if you're going high end. If you're going mid or low just get the best you can afford now.

Honestly, I'd still wait anyway.. The next GTX10's are going to make the GTX9 series cheaper, and ebay will get flooded by upgraders as well..

      • also if anyone wants to go VR in the next couple of years a 960 won't cut it.

Meh, Oculus's min spec is only one higher (970). Turn the settings down a little and you'll probably be fine.

By the time the headset is affordable - less than $500, let's say - you'll probably be ready to upgrade anyway.

  • but this time new GPU is cheaper and gives serious bang for buck … . :)

wait for polaris you will be able to get r9 380 for cheap or 480

    • Are they coming out this year ?

yeah should be out within a month or two

Any chance we could borrow your time machine so we can get these unreleased cards?

No point negging (which has no valid reason, by the way) when it is not even available yet. Of course new products will be coming that are superior, but this site is for sharing current, obtainable bargains.

If people were to neg with your logic, there would be no posts on any technology products. E.g. Why buy an iPhone 6s/ Galaxy S7 when the next one is coming out?

    • I'd also recommend waiting for Polaris if going mid-high range, however, you shouldn't neg this deal if at this time this is the best price for the product.

Hey mwave rep, will you have GTX 1080 available for preorder and if so for how much?

    • If you have the money, wait for those "Ultimate" or "Limited", "premium" edition….

  • I rather prefer ASUS $289 online price + free pick up in umart.

Ahem… everyone seems to be forgetting AMD's Polaris GPUs, which will be launching soon within a month or two, too (specific dates unconfirmed). And unlike the 1070 and 1080 which targets Mid-High and High End segments, respectively. The new Polaris is said to be targeting Mid-range and below (which is where the GTX960 sits). In this case, I'd advise seeing how Polaris performs. The worst time to buy a new GPU is when a new one is within 1-2 month away, I'd say.

    • Ahem… everyone seems to be forgetting AMD's Polaris GPUs

Ahem…actually already covered here and here.

Again, it's hard to wait if you need a new GPU today. Sure, if you're shopping around and planning your build in the near future then it's fine to wait, but I doubt the "wait for new GPU" advice needs to be repeated multiple times in the same deal.

      • Well, oops, I'm blind to not see those comments.

Yes, it is hard to wait if you need a new GPU immediately, however a lot of people aren't aware of when the new GPUs could be released, a comment prior already asked when Polaris would be released. And some frequent OzBargainers don't even know, after my friend went and bought a 980Ti because he can (his old GPU was a perfectly-working GTX770) despite being a frequent OzBargainer then told me he didn't even know when the 1080 was coming out, I'd rather make sure nobody jumps ships without actually needing to. This is also my first time commenting a mid-range card, too, because obviously the 1070 and 1080 cards that people focus on aren't in this price segment.
