LG 25UM57-P 25" 2560x1080 UltraWide IPS LED Monitor $208 @ Kogan eBay

CLICK20

Looks like the deal for MSY has been beaten by Kogan by $12 due to the eBay sale. Was looking for a monitor to compliment my 13" Macbook Pro Retina and I stumbled across this UltraWide. I am aware this has been posted before at $199 but that deal has been marked as expired. It looks like an awesome futuristic monitor running at 21:9.

If I remember correctly this is just slightly higher than a 20" LCD monitor FYI. Some people aren't aware of that.

I haven't bought this for myself, because 1. I like the height of my 24" monitor and I remember how annoying I found 19.5" ones.
But 2. I actually came to the realisation that I would prefer seeing all content within the middle of my vision, ultra-wide puts more screen in your peripheral than otherwise which could lead to more immersion. And my goals are to keep some resemblance of reality when I'm working on my computer :P .

Totally a personal preference thing! Just stating this because initially I thought "omg extra wide" "omg extra pixels" "omg 25>24" but when I looked at the other details I could see it wasn't right for me.

    Cue comments about the height.

    EDIT: beaten already

    • better than people buying and not being aware of it!

        Dangit. Beaten TWICE.

        ETA:
I'll just add a complaint about the bezel instead then.

The bezel is NOT as thin as the picture shows. The glass is that close to the edge of the screen, the actual pixels start further in.

        Here's a non-promo bezel photoof a similar model.

The ultrawide monitors are awesome for office work if you have to work on more than one document at once. Especially once you start using the win+left, win+right shortcuts.

The 25" version feels a bit on the small side though, it's about as tall as a 20" 16:9 monitor.

    • The ultrawide monitors are awesome for office work if you have to work on more than one document at once.

      I'd rather use 2 or 3 screens.

The ergonomics of single wide screens at close viewing distances is terrible. There's a huge amount of eyestrain caused by continually having to re-focus on the centre (close) and far corners (a LOT farther away).

Much better to angle multiple monitors, so that the screen surfaces are more equidistant. 3 is obviously better if you sit "straight on", however I've always used 2 in a Primary and secondary" mode, with one monitor (usually 1920x1200) straight ahead and the other beside it (and angled towards me).

      • Oh so for two monitors setup, you think one straight one angle (_/) is better than two angled form a v-shape (V) ?

        • I find that the V shape is annoying. You cannot place your main work in the centre due to the bezels, so must always be viewing to one side. This is turn forces you to sit with a twist in your neck to view whichever screen is the primary display.

So, having the primary display straight on is far nicer. In gaming it's especially important.

In my utility area I have a cheapo setup with an old 22" 16:9 straight ahead, and then 2 x even older 19" 4:3 on either side. That is a good setup for a compact workstation, as the 2 x 19" aren't adding massive width like triple 16:9's would add.

For laptop stations I usually have dual screens with one straight and one angled, then the laptop as the third screen on the other side.

In one testing area I have a single 27" centred which is flanked on each side by vertically stacked dual 19". Those smaller screens are where utility background programs run.

I know it sounds odd to set them up asymmetrically, but in real life it's far more pleasant. I am on computers about 15 hours per day, so good ergonomics and lowest possible eye strain is really important to me.

my dream to have a job that pay me to use those setup. So jealous!

At work I have nothing like that. For professional graphics work I am using a non-calibrated 24" low end LG 1920x1200 with a big scratch in it!

The setup I described is in my back room at home… just a collection of oldish bits and pieces. Monitors almost always fail due to power supply capacitors, so I gather heaps of freebies and (eventually) repair them. I wish I could break that habit LOL

I think if it was a 27" ultra wife, this would of been perfect

    • Yeah every guys would love that kind of wife. Ultra cute? Ultra rich?

        Ultra cute? Ultra rich?

Those are definitely good, however the Ultra Wide has only limited appeal and poor resale value.

        • Resale wife? Wow a mean but amazing idea. Definitely worth to have options to upgrade as well! Lol

Just remember… you snooze, you lose.

Always trade them for the newer model before they get too much age on them.
