Maybe $15 for a guided tour, but not $65. Also, what backpacker actually has $65 to spare? lol

Use Google Art Tour, it's free !!!

The commercialisation of street art/graffiti by hipsters in the last 10 years or so really saddens me.

I'd say Banksy is the one who kicked it off, can't blame anyone for getting on the bandwagon.

      • Yeah and Obey/Shepherd Fairey i remember when they came through Sydney in maybe 2001 posters and stencils all up Oxford street… Wish i had've scraped them of the wall back then who wouldve guessed street art would explode the way it did.

        • Yeah there was a Banksy on St Kilda Rd on A signal box or something. Was relatively unknown, around the same time. It was balloon girl, had the real balloon on it and everything. Council painted over it promptly, probably worth 6 figures these days, and would be put behind glass.

  • Reminds me of this

Overrated street, the art is rubbish not even close to kind of art I saw in various Chicago graffiti art scenes while I was there.

These tour guys are scammers, I pass by every other day as it's on my way to work and I see the tour guides there explaining to tourists like it's some historic masterpiece. I shake my head Everytime , poor tourists!

    • the art is rubbish

Don't you mean the 'rubbish is art' ???

Jesus… Just go for a walk and explore by yourself.

OP, you are taking advantage of gullible tourists visiting Melbourne with good intentions, with your "offer" of a tour of a public place. I'm sure you'd know by now that there are countless free sources of such information, and your good will would be better served publicising those sources instead.

  • I ran a free walking tour in the CBD for couch surfers a few times.
I didn't explain anything though and just let them take their happy snaps and they were fine with that.

  • Wow shot down..

I did a street art tour in East London.. It was brilliant.. The tour guide was a street artist and knew all the artists work and loads of hidden shit.

Everyone paid a donation at the end. And they cleaned up as it was that good.. How about trying that model??

    • speaking from experience… it's hard to get the numbers in Melbourne on a consistent basis to make it profitable to do.
It make work for extra on the side but don't see it for a full fledged business.
