  • Camera on these is well below that of the S7 though FYI

    • In my experience Samsungs rarely last more than a year, their phones are designed to be obsolete and near unusable after 12 months.

      HTCs are built to last.

I don't bat an eye at spending 1k on an iPhone. But a htc or Samsung I really struggle. Why is that?

Because you are a nutso fanboy?

      • +1

        LOL apple fanboy$

    • You don't even realise you've become a slave of Apple!

    • +1

@Gimli: you don't know the history of Kogan putting up prices before sales then.

    • The first thing I searched when I saw the eBay deal yesterday morning was the HTC 10 and there was none. These listings were online after the eBay deal was active.

  • does it cover the Australian bands we use?
kogan doesnt mention these things, not even the model number.

    • Kogan is bogan

He went to my school so I know.

    • From HTC HK:

      • Doesn't mean that is the model kogan hk has imported though.
They even say the get their goods from all over the world.

  • "unlockable bootloader without affecting warranty"? Please explain!

Root with warranty then I presume? I always need to root my phones, personally I must have titaniumbackup and a memory editor to game..

  • +5

I'm just surprised it's an extra $160 for 32Gb more! (before 20% discount) Why would you buy the 64Gb when it's upgradable via micro SD card for a fraction of the price? Nearer $16 than $160.

  • Even more expesnvie than Galaxy S7, let alone LG G5 or Nexus 6P. HTC 64GB is even pricer than Galaxy S7 Edge which is the best Android Phone you can buy on the market.
How can HTC justify this price?

Let's be honest here, HTC has done nothing innovative and extraordinary with HTC 10. There is not a single thing unique about HTC 10 or stands out of the crowd.

If HTC was bothered enough to throw a free Vive into the deal, I would be more tempted, but no that is not happening and I don't see a compelling reason to spend a hefty sum of money for this phone.

    • +1

The 10 did come out later than the s7/edge, regardless of which one is better (entirely subjective), the one coming out later will always have a selling price closer to RRP. If you're not happy with it, don't buy it, or wait till it drops more, quite simple I think.
Also regarding a free Vive, you have no idea about the difference of gear VR and vive, they are not even similar. Even if you're a Samsung fanboy you should still know what other companies are actually offering.

      • Coming out late to the party doesn't justify the price tag, especially when the phone is actually NOT "better" than existing phones or has NOTHING speical to offer. You may find a reason to buy this phone, but I'm just saying that I cannot see a compelling reason to buy this phone.

About the Vive, I just said It would be nice if HTC can reward their customers with their VR. Well, I mean it could convince more developers on their side since the choice of games on the Vive is pretty pathetic now.

        • +1

You're forgetting that this "price tag" that you're talking about isn't what HTC actually set. Isn't it more fair to compare the RRPs? Mind you, the regular S7 has its RRP set at $1149, the 10 has $1099 as the RRP, how is it not cheaper?

If you're talking about the Kogan prices, it's entirely up to Kogan to set them, and because the S7 has come out for quite some time, the value has dropped more than the 10, so it doesn't matter at all if the specs or whatever you think isn't better than the S7, it just hasn't dropped more than the S7, and that's not because HTC is selling it for more than the S7, in fact they have made it cheaper than the S7.

        • +3

A reason might be that it's 'Not Samsung'.

Having experienced many of Samsungs flagships (S1-S3, Note 4) I can tell you right now the HTC is looking pretty tempting amongst all the flagships atm. LG would've been my go to, but the G5 just looks awkward.

There's nothng really that unique about any phones anymore - many are using Snapdragon 820's and its going to come down to how good the Android overlay is, the display choice, and the style of the phone. And HTC has those three things licked imo.

        • -1

          @Wally Simmonds:

There's nothng really that unique about any phones anymore

Except that's not true and sounds more like a poor excuse to justify the price tag of HTC 10.

          G5 has modules.
S7&Edge have an IP68 rating and that "edge" over other phones.
Nexus 6P offers the purest android experience and updates from Google.

The design(which is similar to my HTC M8), the UI and the display are nothing extraordinary. I reckon there are some cheaper phones which are "Not Samsung" have those things better than HTC 10. By all means, HTC 10 is a great phone, but I'm just saying I cannot see a valid reason why HTC 10 should be more expensive than nearly all flagships on the market. I guess it really depends personal taste and some people are willingly to pay premium for it.

        • @motor89: I believe a couple of reviews state that the HTC 10 got the basics right. As a S6 Edge owner, I'm more tempted by this then by S7 sure to update frequency alone .

        • @motor89: you should try the HTC built in speakers they are great. no other phones are even close to it.

        • @cash8: the G5's B&O audio dac is better. In fact, I am pretty confident my HTC M8's front facing speakers probably are better than those ones on HTC 10.

Then again, I have learnt that I hardly ever use the speakers and I would be better off buying a good pair of earphones.

        • @FabMan: It is a media hype. There is no X factor that adds extra values to HTC 10, yet some reviewers dishonestly claim this is a smashing comeback by HTC. I mean there are many cheaper Chinese phones that have got the basics right, too. There is nothing innovative about HTC 10, which can justify the stiff price tag.

        • @motor89: Possibly, yes.

What new high end smartphone, such as the S7, has features that make them better than the Chinese phones that the HTC 10 doesn't have?

The S7 looks great to me, I'm just burnt by Samsung. My S6 Edge had some annoying flaws at release and some were fixed by the latest Marshmallow update, but it took Samsung 7 months to release that update. That is poor at best, they have the monetary resources to bring it out sooner, I suspect it is to make their S7 look better. If they treat their customers that way, I'm not interested in using them again.

Perhaps the HTC 10 isn't a good option though.

      • I remember the iPhone fan boys on ozb in the good old days lol

    • HTC has done nothing innovative and extraordinary with HTC 10

Don't want to get into a battle here. But OIS on the front facing camera. First phone to do so.

      • +1

IMO a few of these can be considered 'unique' feature.

        • Both camera comes with OIS (first in any phone)
        • 2 front facing speakers becomes single speaker plus a sub-woofer.
        • fast charging port
        • optimised battery (many compared the size of battery, not actually how well it lasts under the same condition)
        • better responsiveness in touch (basic yes, but if they tuned better than any other company, its should be credited)
        • closer to stock android (how many company actual team up with Google to remove duplicate apps to give stock feel? and fluid UI)
        • tougher (see the drop test on youtube? how many times did S7 last?)
  • Bought one last night, today busy with looking for case and Tempered glass.

    • +1

I've got the Incipio-Octane and Spigen HTC Neo on mine and they're quite good (both are hovering around the $30 mark). I do personally prefer the Neo (no bias to my avatar). Previously had the Casemate one for the M7 that was very similar in concept.

    • +1

My Ice View case arrived yesterday. First time I've picked up a case that essentially encloses the whole phone, but I'm really liking it so far. Looking forward to what they add and update to the Ice View functionality too.

*These have been selling out everywhere I've noticed though, so can be tough to get a hold of.

      • I started looking at similar case since my M8 and then m9 and now M10, the only thing stopping me from going ahead is with temper glass people complains it doesn't work well.
However I cannot NOT use temper glass cause I previously experienced a drop which it saved my screen, so $15 for $100+ to replace the screen, it definitely worth it.

    • I tried a tempered glass from day 1 as I managed to get the Telstra sales rep to throw one in free.
      It was awful.

I would've loved a tempered glass screen protector on either M7 or M8 as they had totally flat screens (I don't know if the M9 did).
But as the HTC 10 has a slightly curved screen around the edges, the tempered glass screen protector lifted off slightly around the edges. That made long press screen touches really difficult around the edge.

I've gone over to Spigen Crystal screen protectors and they're awesome.

  • Anyone know what LCD panel they supply?

Dear god, is it just me, or does this this thing looks like an iPhone 3GS?

    • +3

Nothing looks as ugly as the iPhone 3G/3GS…
