What type of usage?

Easily will last several years for those sorts of tasks, especially with the 8GB RAM
Light gaming (think Counterstrike etc), movie and picture viewing, web browsing and limited document typing.

Both are great machines.
The Mac would edge it out in battery performance, which is a factor depending on how mobile you are.
Otherwise it really comes down to which OS you prefer.

XPS13 lovely laptop… From what I have read, the Macbook air beats on battery life (love you windows), otherwise they are neck and neck!
Have been using this laptop since May last year, and it would have to be my favourite major tech purchase in quite a while. Amazing machine, love the keyboard and the screen is glorious. The portability is amazing, I ended up selling my iPad which I hadn't used for months and now this is my de facto work/play machine. Effortless to use in trains/planes/buses. Never really experienced any performance issues, definitely performs much better than the 2011 MBP I was coming from.

2015 as the 2016 models have been released and are available to purchase on the officeworks site albeit way more expensive

Pulled the trigger to get 256gb space grey…Good deal considering very small difference to 2016 model.
I don't need one (used to own one before giving to my sister) since I have the current 2015 13" retina macbook pro, but I am thinking about getting (again) because I had an iPad Pro (which I returned as I was not happy with screen for the price) and the cost of the iPad Pro with keyboard was close to the price of this - this is ideal for me for taking notes at uni and reading my eText books (cheaper to buy, lighter since no need to carry heavy text books)….

The battery has protection circuits to prevent overcharging
What I'm more concerned about is people handling the computer and opening and closing the lid.
Having said that, you will still have full warranty and Apple are very good.

Get on this! Ordered MacBook gold 256gb on Friday night and took a screenshot of confirmation. On Sunday logged into my OW account to find they had cancelled the order. Not one single email from OW on either the purchase or cancellation. Rang their 1300 number and was told that I'd tried to use 2 different credit cards and too many attempts (BS,only used one credit card!) and their online security team flagged it as fraudulent activity and I'm like "what are you? A bank" Then they tell me to go into a store and do a kiosk purchase and pay over the counter. Ok, I'll do that I said. Rock up
To OW and their website went down literally as I was approaching the store, so they couldn't help me at all. Fair enough, I'll call their 1300 number again. They open a new account under my name and I use a different credit card to the one used for initial payment on Friday. SO…I call customer service at 8:30 this morning and they proceed to tell me that the second order has been cancelled as well…WTF!!! So they tell me this has been escalated to online team to investigate and they'll get back to me today with a response. FIVE HOURS LATER, no return phone call so I ring them again. "Sorry, this is under investigation and it'll take 24-48 hours for a response and I said that's not what I was told this morning and operator said well there's nothing I can do and there is no manager here you can speak to regarding it. Thanks for nothing OW, useless mofos. As a last resort I went and did a kiosk purchase myself and paid over the counter under my Wife's name and she gets email confirmation within minutes. My name must be flagged in OW system or something, who knows? Anyway, I've just paid for the third item am and currently awaiting refund on the first two! I wouldn't be so persistent but this is a present and I want it 😁 They are still showing stock online at the moment.
Fraud activity is prob your credit card company. I tried two credit cards from the same bank and they denied my payment, in the end I went via PayPal.
I wish it was the bank, at least they would've called me. OW took both payments and are now organising refund. Still not received one single email from OW about any of these orders.

I do not trust them anymore. So I move to Lenovo. I just bought a Thinkpad X260 from Lenovo website for $1220. I5 6200u 8G 192G SSD. I am happy now.
Your Lenovo will not hold the value when it's time to sell…Apple's second hand value is amazing.
Update. Third order went though in my Wife's name and has been delivered. To date have not received a phone call or a single email in relation to the other two orders of which they've only refunded the second order.

Not sure if models are still around, but tempted by this.
Been looking at the 9.7 iPad Pro, but by the time you get a keyboard cover you are up around this price anyway - at least this is a full computer - yes, probably good and bad points on each side.
My current 3rd gen iPad has been good, but starting to lag a bit. I was never 100% happy with the keyboard cover for it - worked well enough in a pinch. My thought was the iPad Pro would be better in this regard and also a bit more future proof as it's powerful.
These Macbooks are just so portable though that I could chuck it in my carry on when travelling for work and forget about an iPad. I could even ditch the work laptop and travel even lighter, as all I really need is emails when travelling; the iPad just didn't work quite well enough to give me confidence in this regard.
This is my dilemma, see my post a few above.

For those contemplating ordering and delivery I placed two orders (one via paypal the other by visa credit card with security check). CC gold was ordered on Friday and Paypal Silver was ordered on Sunday. Received the Silver Monday night (24 hours) and after 5 conversations on the phone for the gold its now escalated to their finance team. Seems their fraud checking mechanisms arent working correctly.
