Promotion on the Lenovo website - $2159.20 for the same spec (looks like less warranty though).

    http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-ser…

    • HI,

Unit on lenovo website has different specs when compared to this unit

      1) OS- windows 7 pro 64 bit and windows 10 pro 64 bit licence ( online unit has windows 10 HOME)

      2)backlit keyboard ( online unit doesn't have a backlit)

      3)Integrated Mobile Broadband 4G LTE (Huawei ME906S) ( online unit has a standard 4gLTE)

4)3 year depot ( online unit has 1 year depot)

      5) ships in 1-2 days ( online unit ships in 1-2 weeks)

      • +1

        1) OS- windows 7 pro 64 bit and windows 10 pro 64 bit licence ( online unit has windows 10 HOME) <— Can't you upgrade for like $100?

2)backlit keyboard ( online unit doesn't have a backlit) <— online unit has backlit as an option for $50

3)Integrated Mobile Broadband 4G LTE (Huawei ME906S) ( online unit has a standard 4gLTE) <—It actually seems that online unit has it as an option for $150.

4)3 year depot ( online unit has 1 year depot) <— noted.

        5) ships in 1-2 days ( online unit ships in 1-2 weeks) <- has no value to me.

The price is barely competitive with the online unit, assuming that you want LTE. Windows 10 pro, a backlit, and 3 year depot warranty.

Not going to neg, but I really don't see how this is a bargain.

  • +9

For the specs, its really not cheap, there are many other laptops with much higer specs at that price which would destroy this laptop!

      • +2

Whether they're Lenovo's best or not, he's dead right. That's one expensive laptop for the specs.

        • +3

          Tell that to the macbook.

        • +1

@cDNA: yeh we all know the Mac hype premium but this is a MS machine which comes with Win7 loaded (Win10 voucher). Btw I didn't neg you for expressing an opinion, just think this is WAY overpriced.

        • @Possumbly:

People need to look past the specs to understand why its priced like this.

Encryption, premium materials, milspec rating etc.

      • Thinkpads were great when they were from IBM. The original T Series blew everything else out of the water and was arguably worth the $3-4k for one with its titanium alloy shell and tough as nuts that lasts 10 years (My T41S did!). Ever since it went to Lenovo, its just another laptop and definitely not worth the premium for the "business grade" plastic.

        • We have over 500 at our workplace. I don't care if you people can't afford it. lol
It's still a deal (if 5% is classified as a deal).

        • @cDNA: All my computers have been business grade HP or Lenovo. I agree. It makes a hell of a difference. I wouldn't pay this much for a laptop (mine are always refurbs) but for someone who want's this machine it's an ok price. My upvote of your comments won't help much though. For many people price and performance are the only measure of quality not that you can still use the machine effectively 5+ years down the track when it will still outperform the low end laptops AND everything will still work (except maybe the battery)

        • +1

@cDNA: nice condescending tone. will go a long way..

        • @bigpallooka: Low end laptops cost $3-400. Unless technology stands still, in 5 year's time they'll match these performance wise AND provide up-to-date hardware connectivity.

        • bchliu,

I couldn't agrees with you more. IBM think pad was a classic. it meant quality and a peace of mind for the after sell service. Now it's with Lenovo, there are so much complaint with their notebook. my x201's usb port was broken just by unplugging my mouse. I called the help desk, and they told me it's my own fault, and not covered under warranty. A simple search on web found it is a common issue.

People who are thinking of buying lenovo. be warned. there is no after sell service. you are on your own.

        • @stockastics:

Apologies. I can't help the stupidity in some of these comments.

        • @cDNA: no worries mate. everyone has a perspective and different usage for laptops. For personal use, this laptop seems quite expensive to me. For business use, I guess best left to business owners to decide ;)

        • @Possumbly: I haven't found that to be the case. My HP 6730b business laptop is still my favourite and it's 8 years old. I picked it up off Graysonline about 5 years ago for $600 (refurbished) and was also able to pick up a lot of accessories cheap. Please find me a $3-400 laptop to replace it.

        • @bigpallooka: provide the specs and I will. If I can't find a cheap laptop which outperforms yours, with better connectivity, better display, I'll be more than amazed.

        • @Possumbly: http://www.cnet.com/products/hp-compaq-6730b-15-4-core-2-duo…
You're missing the point. 8 years down the track your $3-400 laptop will have been landfill for 5 years. That has been my experience.

        • @bigpallooka: Yes it will, as will many top end machines, precisely because technology marches on at a great pace. IF your needs are basic then having an 8 year old laptop will never be a problem unless of course you want to interface it with other modern devices. My old metal Dell laptop is still as good as new but it now sits gathering dust because it's a slug. Horses for courses tho I agree.

      • When you're travelling overseas on business and customs officer drops the laptop, two things don't matter:
        1. his apology
        2. laptop's price.

        • The worst part is when the Custom's officer throws your laptop+case into the white tray to pass it through the x-ray machines. I feel like punching their lights out sometimes.

I travel for business around 20 times a year. I cannot buy anything less than a lenovo T series, Hp ELitebook or Dell Latitude. I am not sure about macbooks, but I only use linux and windows on a second SSD. No point getting a macbook since it only has one hard drive.

5% off is not a bargain

    • No need to be the bargain police. It irks me when I see these somewhat mediocre deals but I just let it go. Their are a lot of "deals" posted on here all the time that are only 5-10% off. Sometime it's like a $5-10 discount but they still get up voted.

  • +1

Giving this a + as it's in stock… recently needed a new Lenovo laptop (after the last one died) for work and would have jumped on this to get within 24-48 hours.

  • +1

This is a terrible deal for $2300 dollars. The best way is to compare to a better laptop

So here we have the Lenovo ThinkPad T460s ($2300) VS Asus X550JX-DM116T ($1235)
    Intel 520 HD graphics Vs 2GB GTX950M
    14inch 1920 x 1080 display Vs 15.6 inch 1920 x 1080 display
    8 GB DDR3 (4gb 2133mhz) Vs 8 GB DDR3 (1600mhz)
    i7-6600u (3.4ghz) Vs i7-4720HQ (3.6Ghz)
    256gb ssd Vs 1TB SATA
    1.5kg vs 2.5kg
    None Vs Dvd Drive
720p HD Cam Vs 1MP Camera
3 cell battery Vs 4 cell battery

Heres the comparison, best part of it is that its light because it has nothing in it.

    • +2

      Except that.. they aren't comparable.

You really gotta keep the screen and possibly weight the same as a minimum. Otherwise you're talking about machines built for different purposes.

PS: I don't like the deal either, so don't get all defensive on me.

      • +1

K how about this one, gigabyte P34G-960-601S for ($1800)
        -i7-6700Hq with 3.5Ghz
        -8gb ddr4 2133mhz
        - 1 Tb sata
        -2GB GTX 960M
        -14 inch IPS FHD 1920 x 1080 Led
        - usb 3.1 type c (crazy Speeds)
        - 1.67 kg only
        - 2 years warranty

        • What is the battery capacity/size on the Gigabyte? Since it has a quad core i7 6700HQ (this is a beast cpu for a laptop at this price) it will most likely achieve 3hr battery time with 'Balanced' setting, the battery run times won't be anywhere near what the Lenovo T460s achieves [I have the T460s, and get roughly 7.5-8hr battery run time, that's with multiple chrome tabs open all the time, wifi on, 30%-40% brightness, creating/editing multiple PDF's and Word Docs, and 2-3 hrs working with ArcGis (geographic mapping software)].

Though the Gigabyte being a similar weight to the T460s is rather impressive.
And once again, the two are not really comparably as they are again for different purposes.
          This deal isn't too impressive.

Side note: I have a Toshiba P50t with the i7 4710 HQ quad core which has similar performance to the 6700HQ, and it eats through the battery in 2hrs flat on balanced/power save settings.

          :)

        • +1

          @Faulty:

61 Wh battery (not very big, but that's why the laptop is 1.7 kg)
I also have that Gigabyte laptop along with a Lenovo and Hp elitebook if you would like to know more about it. I'm pretty impressed with it due to the power it has in that form factor.

I get about 4 hours on balanced setting with 50% brightness. It's more than 3 hours, though.
Build quality is average. Hinges are sturdy despite the two hinge design. Screen doesn't wobble. Trackpad is decent and buttons are pretty crappy. Keyboard is great.
The most important thing about this laptop is its a quad core, GTX 960M, m.2 PCIE NVME x4 compatible, secondary HDD, USB TYPE C, HDMI 2.0 (4K @ 60 Hz), upgradeable RAM and dual heat pipe design with good fans.

        • Yep, much better comparison and it illustrates your point

        • @cDNA: 4 hrs is quiet impressive. Was not expecting that. The gigabyte is quiet the portable powerhouse. I might consider it! Cheers cDNA

    • Asus lol

Comparing a milspec laptop to a turd out of taiwan.

  • +2

This is still $1000 too expensive for me. Nice laptop though.
