    yes, it can be. Most of the Siemens gigaset are GAP compatible. so the answer is YES.

    Siemens cordless bases and handsets are generally just rebadged gigaset, sometimes you'll see a model like 'siemens e495' but also there will be a 'gigaset e495' as well. Siemens hasn't owned gigaset since about 2008 though, despite OP's website saying siemens all over it. To answer your question almost certainly yes. Even the professional phones like SL3, SL4, SL5 will log onto the domestic bases like E630, C610, A580 etc happily. Keep in mind that the phone generally takes on the features of the base, so if the phone is advertising a specific feature, it might log onto your older base and only be capable of features of that particular base.

  The only cordless phone IMO. Used to have endless problems with other phones until we tried Siemens/Gigaset.

  A big difference in price for the extra handset.

    ^ this is true. In fact often the buy price from distributors is slightly cheaper for the handset+base than it is for just the handset. I work for a phone company that sells strictly Siemens & Gigaset to businesses, and we have piles and piles of bases leftover as we purchase the base+handset and just sell the handset in this case. They are a very good product though. I've never seen a single gigaset out of box failure in ten years of selling them, the only returns on them I've ever had were where they were logging onto 3rd party commercial bases (like Kirk DECT), and they didn't work quite as expected. The only other problem I've ever seen with them is where a shop with sales reps on the floor (like Harvey Norman - they use Siemens/Gigaset) work an 8 or 9 hour shift, some of the ones with colour screens and 700mah batteries don't last the full day of talk time/constantly being rung —— I just put eneloops or turnigys in them and the complaints stop :) Can't imagine you'll get that issue with a home phone - or if the sales reps returned the phone to the base during their lunch break :P
