Woolworths Mobile $30 Prepaid Starter Kit for $1 in-Store with Woolworths Rewards Card or $3 Delivered Online

3890

Guys

Looks like Woolworths mobile fixed their system issues and it's now our task to test it.

Same as previous deal. Just that there is a limit of 1 pack per customer instead of 2.

update 9/6: seems Woolworths Rewards card now required in-store with limit of one per account

Update 11:25am: snappy1234 has reported the $1 sim card being available in store also. Check with your local store.

EDIT:
I have cancelled all the 4 orders($12) I placed early this morning via online chat.

Can confirm that it is $1 in store as well (Town Hall, Sydney).
Expiry date on the pack is 01/08/2017.

Limit of 5 per customer.

I managed to get 9 (went twice and luckily, the guy who served me initially was not there in the counter)

  • Too late. Moved to jeenee for minimum 3 months and suspect I'll never leave

    • why not?

      • As it's $18. There aren't many plans at that price if you don't want to hop sims constantly, and it's 2.2gb billed per kb + 4 hours of calls.

  • I've got a Telstra-locked phone. SO far, I've used it with a Telstra sim (obviously), and a Boost sim (which works fine, presumably because it's a 'Telstra network' sim).

Does anyone know if the Woolworths sims will work OK in a Telstra-locked phone?

    Thanks! :-)

    • If it's Telstra it should

    • possibly not

    • Probably not. Telstra/Boost use the whole of Telstra's network and Telstra Wholesale sells neutered versions to MVNOs like Woolies or Aldi.

On the SIM card packet it says "uses part of the Telstra network".

Tried this with a locked Lumia and an Aldi SIM last year.

Things might have gotten better since the 4G rollout but YMMV.

  • Hi does anyone know what size sim they send out ?

    • +1

      yes, tri size

    • +1

All in one , nano , micro , and full size .

    • +2

      EDIT: beaten

  • +4

Got 4 last order now ordering another 2. Damn my drawer is chock full of starter packs.

    • +3

who cares if someone calls us ' sim slut '. It is ozbargainer's spirit :)

      • Sim what ?

        • You never heard that before? Do a bit search in Ozbargain website in relation to prepaid sim card. You will find comments like that.

        • +1

@Fishwhisperer: I thought you'd made it up. You learn something new everyday I guess.

    • +3

they have record on all sim they sent out, if you call them the first thing they do is to cancel the one report lost. You end up getting nothing more but wait.

    • +6

      Don't be an idiot mate..

  • Do I need anything from the email they send me?
I have some older email addy's that I can't remember the passwords for but other than an order confirmation & delivery advice email I should be good if I can't log in? (i'll record the order number anyway)

  • Can you port from Boost to this and keep your number, because they are both on Telstra?

    • I think so, like amaysim to optus but can anyone confirm?

    • +1

      Yes you can

      • +1

Thanks nightelves, will go well with my stash of $5 Boost cards.

    • Worked with aldi

  • Good deal. Thanks OP

  • +1

Why is everyone buying this, do you guys seriously transfer numbers every single month based on what cheap started pack sim card there is on the market?

    • +1

      @strikerzebra
I don't but i use it for cheap data instead…

(keep my main number on Telstra for Play store use mostly)

    • +11

      $30/month x 12 months = $360

      $1/month x 12 months = $12

Pretty much you waste 15 minutes a month to port your number to the next SIM.

      I wouldn't mind being paid $29 for 15 minutes work, it's a good ROI.

      • not $12 as you need $2 sim between port or if you get free $2 then it is true.

You still short for 5/6 days

        • @LoveBargain15

          No $2 sim required.

Will not suit people that panic about their number etc, i just use a spare number for porting as i'm never without my main number for sms banking etc…

        • @snappy1234:

I am not quite understand you said that >Pretty much you waste 15 minutes a month to port your number to the next SIM.

Are you porting your existing number to the next SIM or getting a new number every time?

if you do need to port your number of course $12 is enough

      • That is good if you can handle the failed number ports, I'd hate to not have a phone for a day or two every month.

        • You can just port a day or two earlier to give yourself some buffer if you really want. You're still saving money that way.

        • +1

          @illumination:

I just spoke to woolworth mobile support, the staff suggests I won't be able to port between woolworth start kits.

I guess snappy1234 is right about

Will not suit people that panic about their number

Any objection on this? I'd like to know more. Thanks.

        • +3

          @icecream:

          Yes objection.

You can never port between starter kits of any telco. By definition, porting means transferring your number from one carrier to another. Main telco to reseller is fine (e.g. Telstra to Woolies, which is Telstra reseller) or reseller to different reseller is also fine.

    • +3

That's how I afford new iphones every year

      • LOL

      • $1 for $30 starter pack. We should look for such deal like $40 for $1200 iPhone.

    • good question, im thinking of doing the same

    • Yes this is ozbargain why pay more for the same service.

  • does this expire?

    • The 6 Gb offer on activation expires soon, the SIM pack itself that they sent out last time had an expiry date of 31/12/17.

  • I have cancelled all the 4 orders($12) I placed early this morning via online chat.

Can confirm that it is $1 in store as well(Towhall, Sydney).

    • All gone after you purchased 9?

      • heaps left mate

    • Haha probably a long queue asking for refunds now! I was happy with $3, plus a few more at $1.

    • Thanks spk! I couldn't find the online chat but called them up and they were happy to cancel. By the time I finally got through to the right person I did waste 10 minutes of my life but saved the $4 postage costs and bought them in store :)

  • Dammit, ozbargained already.

    • +1

see my latest update.. its $1 in store.

I cant add it to cart, but if its already in the cart.. you can still proceed to place an order.

    • +1

      In stock again.

  • +1

    Prahran vic exp 31/12/2017

  • Just called local Woolworth store, going to collect my $1 sims. Thank you OP. Great deal.

  • not available online anymore :(

  • Yep need to Update to say INSTORE only (OZBARGAINED online)

    • In stock again.

      • @ Gofast

        Ha nice
-Better than last time they pushed the price back up to $15 i believe.

  • Woolworths Vermont VIC; at least 10 sighted on the hook in the service area after I purchased 5, but more might be available still boxed up. Limit of 5. Expiry 12/17

  • just bought 5, thanks OP

  • +4

Bought 7 packs. Now my parents can stop trying to contact me by prank calling and expecting me to call back.

  • Can someone advise if you activate this do you get 3gb or 6gb?

    • +1

      6gb if done in June

      • Before the 30th

    • So the people who are buying multiple packs for the data are only going to get the 6GB on the first one. All the ones after that will only be 3GB (which is still great for $1-$3).

      • +1

3gb is huge. Vodafone $30 sims are only 1.5gb

      • +1

        @ 3 Hyenas

Yep keep an eye out online and then activate the sim you bought ages ago with the new inclusions.

for instance bought a Boost $40 sim for cheap ages ago and if i activate it today i get
Up to 16GB for $40 sim kit

        That's 3GB standard + 2GB every weekend + 5GB extra stnd when you activate by 27 June^.

        • Great tip, thanks :) I'm a bit new at this particular type of bargainhunting. (I only just recently got in on the Telstra/Google Play awesomeness)

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

Picked up more in-store to go with the two ordered from the last deal.
My guess is they're clearing out packs marked as "uses part of Telstra's 3G network" (now 4G) and "network you can trust" (ha!)

  • OP - where is chat option online? can't see it.
    nevermind.. found it!

  • Some of the starter packs
    in store expiry is 31/12/17

  • Yes,available in gold coast, pimpama store.

staff actually did not know this promotion, but she help me scan the price, it is $1 dollar, then I grabed 2 .

staff also did not know the 5 limit per person, i think.

    sim card expire till 01/08/17.

    • There's no "limit" per se, 5's just a good round number before people start asking questions. Most of the store staff seem happy with 5.

    • Bought some today staff didn't even know the deal was on! There is no limit

  • None 30$ in stock @ Mel qv.. Can only see 29$ ones

    • +1

Thats the roaming SIM, different product.

  • Is it just me, or did they change the wording from "maximum 1 per customer order" to "maximum 1 per customer"?

  • +1

    Town Hall sold out.

    • Not surprised. Actually surprised it lasted this long!!

    • what about met centre? any there?

      • metcentre sold out ages ago sadly

  • Note that these prepaid sims are not enabled for premium services i.e. in-game / in-app purchases such as League of Legends.

    • I don't think that's the right terminology. It's not enabled for Google Play Billing.
Premium Services normally refers to those premium SMS (competitions that charge $0.55 per SMS), numbers starting with 12XXXX.

      • Premium SMS is how LoL, RS etc takes payment though :P

  • Elizabeth Woolies still has half a dozen left

  • Great with thx. got 12 @moorabbin wws in one transaction! expiry @31/12/2017

  • heaps at parramatta james ruse drive

    Maybe should call it Rosehill

  • They are out of simcards online. Can't buy anymore.

  • mates, is this worth switching from amaysim? I heard that amaysim has consistently won the award for best service provider

  • i think this also INSTORE…just got family member to check it out INSTORE and indeed it sell for $1 and expired on xx/8/2017…

  • Bentleigh VIC sold out

  • Southern cross sold out…

  • Selling rate $16.29 http://goo.gl/awVLJF

    • +4

wow. some people are so greedy and all about the money.
I bought a bunch to use but didn't even think about buying just to sell for a profit.
      maybe i'm not ozbargain enough….

      • -1

It's all about arbitrage. Buy low and sell high.
