Woolworths Mobile $30 Prepaid Starter Kit for $1 in-Store with Woolworths Rewards Card or $3 Delivered Online

3890

Guys

Looks like Woolworths mobile fixed their system issues and it's now our task to test it.

Same as previous deal. Just that there is a limit of 1 pack per customer instead of 2.

update 9/6: seems Woolworths Rewards card now required in-store with limit of one per account

Update 11:25am: snappy1234 has reported the $1 sim card being available in store also. Check with your local store.

EDIT:
I have cancelled all the 4 orders($12) I placed early this morning via online chat.

Can confirm that it is $1 in store as well (Town Hall, Sydney).
Expiry date on the pack is 01/08/2017.

Limit of 5 per customer.

Proof: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/137114/40038/img-20160…

I managed to get 9 (went twice and luckily, the guy who served me initially was not there in the counter)

@angelkulit025: There was hardly any stock for the effort. This deal although more expensive was a lot easier to obtain https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224964

    • Answer is literally 1-2 posts above yours

  • My Optus sim was expiring last night, used one of my new packs, ported within 20 mins at about 7.30pm last night. cheering!!

  • just purchased from Mt. Hawthorn, WA woolies, scan at $30 and scanned everyday rewards, discounted to $1… unfortunately, it looks like only 1 per card (everyday rewards)..bummer. Can someone confirms this? otherwise, you will just have to create new card to get the discount…

  • Got 5 last night, they just scanned at $1. Today at a different store they had tags up with the reduced price so I gave it a shot and asked for 10. The first reduced to $1 with everyday rewards, but the others were still $30. They overrode the price and I got the 10 for $10, but they took the tags down.

  • None left at Arndale SA Woolies and no luck with Rain check. Tried Westlakes plenty of stock available got 3 on different reward cards.

  • so i tried buying it from the section where they sell ciggarettes. I asked her if she has any and she said no. I askes the other lady and she said yes and sbowed me. The first lady cane back and told me to pay 30 dollars. I said no it is one dollar. She scans my rewards card and it turns to one dollar, her face was like lol.

Is that right, it is one sim card per rewards card? I tried to buy 5 at the store and the first girl that was serving me was very rude to me. She made eye contact to other workers, like why is he buying 5 kinda thing. I told her the limit is 5. Maybe I was wrong. So who's right?! *adelaidestore

    • This happens just then, I'm waiting for bus now lol

      • Maybe because they think your a tightass
You'll have to get a thicker skin if your gunna ozbargain

      • -1

Tell her to eat a phat one!

    • Yes, currently it is one sim card per rewards card. Without a rewards card, the price is now $30. They have tighten the rules since yesterday, presumably to deter one person buying multiple sims.

  • Online is sold out. Maybe add into title?

  • If you show them a screenshot of the $1 will they honour it?

  • +3

I just bought 3 from Dee Why Woolies, there was 2-3 left on the rack. I already ordered some online earlier. I didn't have to show everyday rewards cards, although I have one. Just asked for the sims, I said these are on special for $1, answer yes, paid cash walked out with the 3. Tempted to go back later but happy for someone else the grab what's left.

  • +1

None left at Northbridge or Crows Nest.

Terms have changed to 1 per Everyday Rewards card.

  • Has anyone else had trouble tethering the woolies sim?

    • +2

Works fine took me 15mins to set and get it working. Put it into a 4G wireless modem but also tested it by putting it into my mobile and tethering my laptop.

      • Cheers. The problem could be my phone then. I'm using a OnePlus one(technically the mrs' phone) . She's never had a problem tethering when she was optus or Vodafone though.

Edit: I probably should mention that the connection with the laptop is established correctly however it shows as "limited" connectivity.

        • I think I had a similar issue. When I've previously tried tethering on the other carriers (Optus, Amaysim) it was fine, but tethering on Telstra prepaid (so not Woolies but Telstra) it wouldn't work. Never got it working. Just gave up lol

        • +1

          @illumination:

but tethering on Telstra prepaid (so not Woolies but Telstra) it wouldn't work. Never got it working. Just gave up lol

No issues at all with tethering on a Buzz with Telstra prepaid….

        • @illumination:
Was the device an optus band device?

        • +1

@xywolap: Nope. Xiaomi Redmi Note 2

      • 15mins, what did you do?

can't get data to work on my old Samsung note 2 or 4g wireless modem

Tried different APNs still no go

        • I didn't have any issues mine just worked from setting up sim online then putting it into modem. On another note you wouldn't get 4G on note 2. Don't think those phones are 4G compatible.

        • @S242:

          Is is 4g capable.

Activated another sim and had no problems.

I had called their customer care, who told me to "BUY" a $2 sim and they'd do a transfer.

I went to woolies and convinced the server to give it to me for free, as its a faulty product.

I called Customer care again who did the transfer to the new sim…. guess what… still no data….

Sent a complaint to [email protected]

      JJB,

I can confirm that tethering works from my Telstra Buzz but I had to set my APN settings correctly first (it was still using Telstra APN settings but could still let me browse from the Buzz, initially tethering wasn't working with the Telstra APN).

Anyway, if you haven't yet, try entering the Woolies APN settings on your 1+1:

How do I configure my phone to access the Internet and send and receive MMS?

If your phone doesn't do this automatically, you will need to change your APN (Access Point Name) settings to the following (for both Internet and MMS):

      Name: Mobile Data
      APN: mdata.net.au
      Proxy: (leave blank)
      Port: (leave blank)
      Username: (leave blank)
      Password: (leave blank)
      Server: (leave blank)
      MMSC: http://mmsc.mdata.net.au:8003
      MMS proxy: 10.1.1.180
      MMS port: 80
      MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
      MCC: 505
      MNC: 01
      Authentication: (leave blank)
      APN type: default,dun,supl,mms

It is sometimes necessary to restart your device after applying these settings.

edit: let us know how you go

      • I tried it today and was still getting "limited" connection error. However the Mrs got it to work by using the telstra.pcpack APN. Would that be 3g?

        • Did you get it to work? I am still having problems with mine.

          Edit: Dw fixed

went to woolies airport brisbane, met a lazy ass. She just said that they only sell the $2 SIM only.

    • +1

Why don't you show her this thread?

    • +1

Went to 3 regional stores in NSW today.. plenty of stock, no one knew about the deal at any store, passed them a temp rewards card with the purchase and they all had a shocked look when the price came out at $1.
Moonwalk… go back and ask someone else… some of their staff are downright pigs (not all).
One boy that served me today was very rude but he went very quite and surprised when it rang up at $1 :-)

    • +3

      And learn English dumbass

      Oh the irony

  • Went to two woolies near Haymarket.no stock

  • Am I the only one having problems buying things on the Play Store with the credit? I don't have an option for "Telstra Billing", as I believe Woolworths Mobile uses the Telstra network? Or is the credit not treated the same as Telstra credit?

Sorry couldn't find any info elsewhere. Thanks.

    • +3

Play store credit is on Telstra prepaid Sims only, not part of Woolworths prepaid plan. Don't know why you for negged for asking a question.

      • Yeah thanks. I just thought it would cover it because the website says it runs on the Telstra 4G network but that makes sense. Also I just realised the credit is $1000 of non premium credit also, not the $30 premium credit + $970 bonus like I thought it was.

Not too worried about the negs.

      • +2

I didn't neg, but I believe this was negged because someone asked this earlier and it was answered.

  • +1

Plenty of stock at Cardiff 2285 Glendale 2285 and Toronto 2283 for those that are around that area.
Just grab a temp Rewards card off the stand near the counter and present it to get your $29 discount.
Do we need a seperate post for store available cards or can this one have the expired tag lifted and changed to instore purchase?

  • Can you buy more than 1 on the same EDR card over multiple purchses?
i.e. say I buy 1 today and then another tomorrow using same card.

    • No.

      • +1

I was able to do so yesterday.

        • Hmmmm, interesting. It didn't work for me, hence my No response above.
I scanned 3 in one transaction, and only one reduced so I had to take the other two off.
Then I tried a second transaction with the same EDR card and it didn't reduce.
I'll try again when I find some more.

        • +1

          @roughana:
Pick up a temp EDR card and use that.. one per card.

  • +1

    Woolies town hall sold out

    • +1

About 3 days ago yeah. Ozb cleaned them out thoroughly.

  • +2

One per temporary rewards card, so get a bunch of them and rinse and repeat
Your basically just helping them to get rid of old stock with less than 18 months expiry anyway
And with woollies sim to woollies sim calls free , stock up for friends n family

  • Sold out at Lane Cove.

  • At Jesmond they still had them pm 11/6 and had several big $1 price tags on the display with NO mention of EDR card needed. They were just hanging on the outside of the cig counter where anyone could just walk up and help themselves to a handful and walk off. :-(

  • ouch struggling/can't get data to work… on Samsung Note 2, voice works, but APN settings aren't

    • Me too. Maybe turn off on. Been playing up all arvy, thought I cooked my little broadband dongle doing updates.
      I think I'll give It a rest

      • You need to go to setting and set up a new APN, name: you can pick whatever name then the only thing you need to enter is APN:"interent" -> Save.

Then you should be able to use data on your phone

      • @ beachbum… Can I ask if you've used the Woolworths SIM in a broadband only wifi device? I thought there was some kind of device identifier that would stop me doing this. Not tried yet, didn't want to waste one of my $1 SIMs until I need it :-)

    • Telstra outages happening all day again. That could be the problem.

Have a read of the complaints on facebook

      https://www.facebook.com/Telstra24x7/posts_to_page/

      • my telstra prepaid is working fine… unless they've somehow shut down the woolworths sims data

        • Just tested on Data and it is working fine 33Mbps download 10 Mbps upload

  • Anyone having trouble activate simcard ?

Sorry, you have exceeded the number of ID check attempts, please try again in 30 mins

    • Yea keep trying every 15 -20 Min.
      Before the page times out.
Then when it throws another wobbly and says, there's been an error contact support and you walk away in disgust, it will go through while you're not looking.
The next stage is when you've burn through about a dozen of these sims, they just bypass the Id check if your loging in with a password
      Fun times

      • I am only first in the prepaid game, I am curious from the second swap onward, will they recognise your phone number/ID for porting and rejecting you?

  • Got few ones few hours ago. All woollies sold out in Melbourne West.

  • Picked up a couple today at Woolies Mandurah WA. Aug 2017 Expiry.

    My order been cancelled?…

    • same here mate 2/3 online orders cancelled using the same cc and email.
Even though I bought them before they changed the description to 1 per person, I'm assuming they're enforcing that across all orders now.

  • Anyone elses online order get cancelled??

Just got an email cancelling it. No reason given.

  • I had my order cancelled too, don't know why.

  • Mine got cancelled too. This is BS.

    • +2
      • Haha cheers mate!

I reckon they screwed up by sharing online and in-store stock. Since all the SIMS were sold out in-store they had no more for the online customers.

  • Mine cancelled. It would have cost them nothing to give a brief excuse. Rude!!

  • Mine got cancelled too looks like a limit of 2 per Email as I ordered 4 and only 2 have been cancelled.

    • I ordered 1.

    • I ordered three with same email (first day, in first hour) and all orders have been cancelled

  • Mine got cancelled too :-( I called them and their call centre has no notes as to why. I explained about possible changes in T&Cs and said my order was placed prior to any changes. Waiting for a call back after they find out what the score is.

    • +1

WW probably underestimated the reaction to selling a $30 item for $1… ?? Amazing that !!

  • Not yet. Guess they'll cancel the rest tomorrow?

    • Yes cancelled
If you can find a store with stock ,
this sale will finish tomorrow night
Try ringing around you might get lucky

      • Well this is a bad look for them, effectively reneging on the deal. They've charged my card thus constituting a sale and they just decide they don't want to fulfil their end of the deal? Is that even legal? Aren't there laws against this sort of behavior? Doesn't seem very fair..

        • It is odd and bad business practice. No reason being given makes it worse.
Cheaper to pick up in store anyway. The number of them for sale on ebay is an eye opener.

  • Has anyone received the SIM cards yet? Ordered mine Tuesday last week but nothing in the post.

    • It take about 1-2 weeks to arrive, they are not quick.

  • Hi guys, I have 12 of these sims. Can I port my existing number every month for 12 months?

    • You will need to port between providers and back again.

    • +1

Please read this post before asking this question, it has been answered so many times in here.

      • Sorry what post? i cant see the link, thanks for the info guys

  • South Fremantle WA store has plenty of stock and will sell for $1 after scanning at $30 then refunding $29. One only per customer. Expiry Aug 17.

  • 11 left at Tuggeranong as of 10 minutes ago.

    • +1

Buy them one at a time with a new temporary rewards card for each purchase
Doubt we'll see this in stores ever again

      • Bought 2 already, going to grab another 1.

  • I just got an email, looks not so gloomy after all
