should probably mention its one way only

    • +1

      where does it say that?

      • -5

Read terms & conditions below the listing. Only basic pricing - does not include luggage, food, etc. Add all & return trip before you compare with other airlines. Only available on certain dates and limited seats. BAIT advertising.

        • +5

Complete and utter rubbish. Luggage and food are non-essential (I don't buy them…) and the price quoted is correct and exists.

Just because it's unsuitable for you, doesn't make it a scam…

        • +4

@callum9999: In all fairness, just because you dont buy food and luggage, doesnt makes these items non essential for other people

        • @callum9999: No one say it is a scam. Bait advertising doesn't mean it is a scam. Do you understand deeper than this?

          Good post OP.

This is just a warning to those who haven't got caught in budget airline pricing. Do your sum.

        • -1

@MelbBargainChaser77: Yes, yes it does. There is a difference between something being desirable and essential. Airline food couldn't possibly fall under that category, and about the only essential baggage I can think of is bulky medical equipment - something the vast majority of travellers don't have.

        • @kiamsup: I suggest you look up the meaning of the phrase bait advertising. It IS a scam, no ifs no buts.

        • +1

@callum9999: Well well, looked it up in:

          https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertis…

"Bait advertising takes place when an advertisement promotes certain (usually ‘sale’ prices) on products that are not available or available only in very limited quantities. It is not misleading if the business is upfront in a highly visible, clear and specific manner about the particular product ‘on sale’ being in short supply or on sale for a limited time."

          It is NOT a scam.

"A SCAM in the online world has been loosely translated. By definition, a scam is a quick-profit scheme where a person cheats another individual or group out of money by presenting them with false information during a deal or offer." Quoted from: http://www.securitysupervisor.com/security-q-a/online-securi…

This deal is not false information.

Hope your understanding and your knowledge is deeper than the basic in looking it up yourself before asking someone else to look it up the truth.

        • -3

@kiamsup: Which by that definition means this is NOT "bait advertising"… (EDIT: As I'm sure you'll have trouble comprehending it - the sale specifically states the dates in which it's valid, and 3 million seats are available - not remotely close to your precious definition of "bait advertising").

Even your ridiculously specific definition of "scam" acknowledges it's "loosely translated"… The definitions Google give: "a dishonest scheme", "a swindle". I.e. exactly the same as bait advertising…

The only "deeper knowledge" I have now is in my assessment of your competence and character.

  • Great prices and so many cities to choose from. You can get half way to Europe for $400 return or less.

    • Which would be a good city to fly to, to then fly on to London?

      • +2

I would suspect one of the cities in China will be cheap… maybe check Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong. Not sure about Chinese visas but with Hong Kong I think you can just get a visa on arrival. You could even just fly Malaysian Airlines direct to London from KL and they use their A380 to London. Or perhaps even an Indian airline from India? Colombo in Sri Lanka could be good too.

The cheapeast way to Europe might be to Bangkok and then fly Norwegian Airlines, but it wouldn't be a direct flight to London.

You could even mix it up and go over there via one city and come back via another. There's so many permutations and combinations.

      • I recently booked a OneWorld award flight to Europe for later this year. Getting back from Asia into Aus was my main hurdle, impossible to get a decent flight. So I just booked up to KL on the way back (so a 3/4 return ticket). I then just have a night or two at a (cheap) fancy hotel in the city or stay at the awesome SamaSama airport hotel and take a morning flight back home.

    • -1

Pretty standard sale prices really. Probably worse here since the dates are so far out.

      • I have a 30 november plan to go to bangkok and burma, i guess i'll just bide my time for the next 4 months and wait for the appropriate sale to pop up, and it will pop up.

  • +1

    No flights from Adelaide

      • +1

They said they didn't got much passengers from Adelaide but guess what, Darwin flights are still on. Just wondering, are they getting more passengers from Darwin than Adelaide ???

        • +4

From Darwin they just use a small A320 for a quick hop over to Bali. That's very different to a long haul flight on a A330.

    • Get to Darwin for cheap flights from Adelaide.

  • +9

Too many times have I been dudded out of airasia flights when I book 6 months+

Whether it be cancelled flights or cancelled routes.

Think carefully before booking routes beyond KL more than 6 months and especially more than 1 year away….

With this in mind I only booked SYD<->KUL $307 no luggage with satay sticks both ways in July 2017 NSW school holidays.
(I will book my final destination when I know it (and if with airasia if it still flies there).

Tip: SYD->KUL might be $159 but you can find a cheaper return leg.

(Seems to be even cheaper at Easter school holidays 2017)

    • Right there with you. They've screwed me for the last time.

  • +2

Last time I fly to London I flew to KL first, then bought a ticket in KL. It was so much cheaper, about $300 to get to London from KL.

    • who was the ticket to London with?

      • Malaysian Airlines.

  • +1

Done, SYD <-> Osaka next February for ~500/person. Bargain.

    Thanks OP

    • including bags or no?

  • Looks like Scoot aren't having their birthday sale this year :( I'm holding out for a sale on flights to KL or SIN in Oct/Nov, but Air Asia keep missing the mark! :)

    • They have a separate promotion which ends 26 June and it says Gold Coast to KL is $229 one way from 14 June 2016 to 3 January 2017.

      • Yeah, I'm not sure what that promo is but that's roughly the normal price from OOL (I've been watching prices for a few months)

  • +1

What am I missing with their "Value Pack" add-on? It's $58, but if I manually add the baggage ($25), meal ($5) and standard seat selection ($19) it comes to $49. What's the point in adding the value pack instead?

  • For flights to/from Syd/KL if you cancel you will get about $70 refund each way of taxes, so at these prices it is worth the risk of booking a long way out. Also I always recommend booking flight as ONEWAY bookings and not as RETURN bookings because it gives you more flexibility of cancelling one leg & rebooking that leg to another date, if necessary. Food wise, the 'big brekky' is good value.

    • Did you book oneway for this promotion? I cant figure out how to book only a one-way ticket?

      • just go thru their normal booking page and you can click on oneway. It should be the same price as going through the ops link

  • Wish they flew to Manilla.

Plan on going next month. Hope Cebu Pacific have deals soon too.

    • +2

      I miss their sub-$200 return flights :(

      • Flew from KL to Melb for $130 in April, cashed in $20 worth of big points. Booked that flight the day before the flight. Pretty happy on the savings there.

    • They don't fly to "Manilla" but they do fly to Manila. It's just not part of this sale. However, Cebu and Kalibo are part of this sale.

  • Hmm…landing page only shows Sydney to Osaka/Sapporo (Japan) as part of the promotion

But Syd to Tokyo during the same period is $288 one way..that's a sale fare isn't it? Osaka is still $276

  • Anyone know will Citibank card international travel insurance still apply if purchase air ticket using Paypal linked with credit card ? Thanks

    • Yes definitely!

      • Thanks for your info, saving me $10 per ticket.

  • $80 for luggage one way :( OOL-SGN

  • Anyone know if there is a website that you can compare the cost of various airlines for a family including an infant? I just put our details in (2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant) and found out the infant costs $100 on AirAsia, some other airlines have infants free or about $16 but it seems you have to go through the the entire process for each airline to find out.

    • I use Skyscanner - https://www.skyscanner.com.au/. It has a search parameter for infants, but i'm not sure how accurate it is as i've never used it personally. But for all other searches I've used Skyscanner is great.

    • I use Kayak for this purpose, they will give you the average price per person (incl infant) as well as the total so not hard to compare with full service airlines (as long as you know what luggage and food is going to cost you). I've flown a few times AirAsia with an infant (in lap) and can't remember this to cost that much though. You sure you haven't selected infant with seat? For some reason it looks like children (above 2 years) pay 80% or less for Syd-Kul but full price the other way.

    • Thanks bozbargain that makes searching much easier. It is actually cheaper for us to travel on an airline that includes food and luggage even though I am happy to skip these.

  • For Sydney to Kuala Lumpur its advertised here for $272 but however when you proceed to book the flight you'll find that its $400+ one way and then another $400 return. Am i missing the big $272 deal or is this a bit of a bait post?

  • Have been burned by Air Asia from the previous sale where they have since completely killed the Syd to Bali route. The absolute WORST customer care / support of any airline ive ever delt with, and i have delt with some shockers. Still fighting with them trying to get refunds, they are refusing to refund a connecting flight with them despite the fact they completely killed off the first leg!!!! It is shocking and their customer care, on the RARE chance u reach them, just fob you off to an eform who then reject your request. AND they do not appear to be part of the voluntary aviation complaints process (similiar to an umbudsman) which most airlines are including jetstar and tiger. Be warned.

NEVER flying air asia again without travel insurance (i always get it but had not as yet since flights were so far away - lesson learnt). But still, absolutely terrible support of customers. Just see their facebook page.

    • +1

      Do a credit card chargeback.

      • Not sure i can, it was 3 months ago? Also I paid with my citibank visa debit card as at that exact time i had been hit my fraud so that card was the only one i had working. But i'll give them a call.

  • Had a look, not really impressive. At least for Perth.

  • Strange. I was looking for Sydney to Da Nang, and the price actually went UP. What is with that?

    • +2

Sometimes the allocation of sale seats runs out and it goes to the next priced seats. Try to be flexible with your dates. Clicking on the day before etc can help.

    • +1

For some reason my big points redeeming page logged a low price from my search and a week later when the prices went up on the regular site, i went back to the big points page and it had the same earlier price. Might be worth investigating.

  • Thanks OP. Booked Per - KLL for $270 return. It would have been $250 if airasias site would let me use paypal! :(

Does anyone know if the citibank signature travel insurance covers airasia bookings? Normally I get separate travel insurance but for a week in Malaysia I am hoping my credit card insurance will be enough.

    • I booked through the mobile app (Android) and Paypal worked well.

  • +1

Just returned from Saigon yesterday after 1 week trip to remove 2 wisdom teeth. The total cost is $368 (Mel<=>SGN) + $25(each tooth) x 2 = $418. AirAsia is bargain!!!

    • Need to come back for food now

  • I keep getting the error: "Hash mismatched on booking retrieval."

    • +1

Don't know the cause but Citibank is down right now!

A lot of errors are popping up (POLi etc). They say it could be 2-3 hours.

  • +1

I spot a rat on the Airasia's pricing and destination offerings.

When you scroll down to the Fly-thru offerings from Melbourne they have listed the now defunct Melbourne to Bali route as a fly through option for Singapore. With January to August dates in 2017 listed, yet they are cancelling this service as of 1 September.

Copy and paste of this is below:

    Melbourne ► Bali ► Singapore AU$ 184.00 4 January 2017 - 21 August 2017 19 June 2016

Obviously travellers won't be able to book this, if they click 'book', but it doesn't help to confuse travellers (especially if they aren't aware of the Bali routing being cancelled)

  • Flying out tomorrow to Phuket so I thought I would book next years flight out now (historically Airasia flights are cheapest at first release). Had problems trying to book yesterday "Hash mismatched on booking retrieval." but all ok this morning. 2 pax gold coast to phuket $520 by paypal incl luggage, meal and seat selection.

  • Thanks op. $838 2 adults, 4 kids Per-Bali return with 1 20kg check in bag :)

  • Is there an easier way of finding the cheapest price, i.e. the "from" price, rather than clicking through each date individually?

    • I think that there is a month view function after you have done your initial search

  • In the promotions page (http://www.airasia.com/au/en/promotion.page?rr=rx8700108&ici…) it shows the bargained price but when i click "book now", price just jumps up? how do i get the bargain price instead? tnx
