I've just discovered two pretty great phones on sale. The Xiaomi Mi4c has great specs for its price. The Xiaomi Mi Note Pro is also excellent bang for buck and looks to have taken a huge, long awaited price cut. Need to sleep but phones are as follows: (will include more in-depth specs tomorrow evening)

  • What's the custom rom scene like for these phones? I'm pretty sure I've seen a CM12/13 for the mi4c but not sure about mi note

  • I still prefer the Full HD Screen with bigger battery of Redmi Note 3 Pro. Just FYI, Xiaomi has dropped the price of the Redmi Note 3 Pro in China to the same price as the non-pro version (MTK chip). So those Chinese seller has been dropping price on the RMN3 Pro recently.

  • I think I prefer RMNP3 the other deal just because of SD650 and good battery, not overheating

    • Which other deal was that??
I am in the market for another redmi note3 pro (snapdragon 650) with 3g ram/32 rom.
The best deal was Aliexpress USD$179.99 and now it has gone up to $186.99.
I do hope that the price will drop further soon.

      • What about the Everbuying deal?

      • Deal already expired. It's from DreamMi same seller on Aliexpress with cashback

  • What does band 28 mean. I need a new phone asap. Also what is the questions surrounding rom? Appreciate your help.

    • Band 28 is one band (frequency) used for 4G by some carriers (Telstra) (for data).

Telstra (and other providers) use other bands as well.

There is always a fallback to 3G. Performance may vary but it is unlikely you will suffer any service loss (if you are on Telstra) by using a non-band 28 phone.

I use a non-band 28 (Redmi Note 3 Pro) on Aldi (telstra network) and can still access 3G and 4G services. However it depends how well the area you are is covered by alternate bands.

IMHO, lack of Band 28 is not a showstopper.

ROM - for maximum out-of-box experience, ensure you get a "global ROM" and not a custom-vendor ROM or Chinese ROM.

Global ROM will auto-update. Other ROM's you need to know how to flash to global.

Bought one Mi4c . Thanks PR0r for sharing the deal.

  • I was going to order the Redmi Note 3 pro prime SD650 after Dreami confirmed yesterday that they will install official global rom on the unit before sending. It was USD$179.99 and now $186.99. Argh……

    • yeh when i bought it they sent a message saying they'll install it before sending :)

      • how long did it take to reach you from China? I am assuming you used free standard shipping
        Which state are you from?

        • havent received it yet, only bought on sunday.

i opted for express shipping so hopefully soon!

        • @sinishta: Don't hold your breath. I paid for mine last Thursday at 4:30pm. It is still "being processed" as of now. Opted for DHL express shipping too. Must be the seller being overwhelmed by the massive amount of orders via OzBargain :(

        • @ravonda:
Did you get the gold one from everbuying?

        • @ravonda:

It took a bit more than a week for DHL express for me. For those on free shipping prepare to wait 3 weeks minimum

        • @he88388: Silver from Dreami (Aliexpress).

        • @neonlight: Does that include processing and shipping? It has been 7 days since I bought it and it is still being processed. Getting a bit annoyed here cause the seller doesn't respond fast to messages (takes a day), and then sends two generic emails (6mins apart) that say it will take 25-60 days to arrive AND the other email saying 3-7 days to arrive.

        • @ravonda:

Well I ordered way early when the deal was first posted. That's the Tuesday before last week. and I received it Thursday last week so exactly 7 business days including processing. Who knows if they are overwhelmed by ozbargainers.

        • @neonlight: Yea that must be it. Lucky you!

  • Can anyone comment on whether the "international ROM" they install on these are "clean", or do they have the same issue as the Note 2's (malware, advertisements popping up, etc.)?

    • If it is not clean, get the official global firmware from MIUI forum and flash it.
This is the reason why I was hesitant about the previous everbuying deal as the installed ROM is not an official stable ROM.
According to the forum, flashing the official global ROM is easy.

      • I bought a Note 2 for someone. Given how "easy" it is meant to be, I found it hard to find consistent instructions. I followed instructions which were supposed to be crystal clear, accompanied by a Youtube video. Lo and behold, the adds were still there after flashing with the International ROM. I needed to follow up with a factory reset (wipe user data) to get rid of them.

        • Thank God I didn't buy it from everbuying.

  • Header says it's a QHD screen but description says 1080p. Which is it?

  • Is there an official international Android 6.0 available for this phone and if so, how straightforward is the upgrade process?

    • No international ROM as far as anything official is concerned. Only China ROM
      http://en.miui.com/download-273.html

    • No official international ROM as the phone is meant for the China market.
You can get unofficial ROMS like http://www.teamsuperluminal.org/mi4c-cyanogenmod-13/ but you'll have to unlock it first.
All the random info is at http://en.miui.com/thread-262462-1-1.html

    • Xiomi is doing beta testing for MIUI which I believe is based on 6.

As others have stated, all depends on which ROM you get, there are 3rd party ROM's if you're keen, but if you've not done this before it might be overly complicated.

I'm still very tempted, but only if I can convince myself the battery is going to be ok for me.

      • I like simple. The lenovo k3 note upgrade to ROW ROM was straightforward. And then an OTA upgrade to 6.0 some time ago. I think I might pass on this phone.

    Seller changed price now

  • Thanks. Bought 2 mi4c for my parents.
Does anyone know what ROM the 4c comes with? Also, how hard is it to flash ROMs. Im kida new to these stuff tho.

  • Just bite the bullet and bought 2 units of the mi4c as well for my parents too.
I hope the installed ROM is a stable working one!!

    • Do you know if mi4c are with global roms?

  • Guys, as a current user of mi note pro, I would recommend to stay away from it. I paid around $600 last year and my experience hasn't been the best.

The biggest issue is the overheating. Till now, Xiaomi has refused to accept that the phone suffers from overheating issue. I can tell you can't hold the phone next to your face for long if you have it on charge, WiFi on and talking at the same. Its freaking hot!! Post it on miui and fanboys will be dissimisive about it. Another issue being a flagship phone, it struggled to receive any constant updates, heck their budget phones are receiving AOSP marshmallow roms and nothing for mi note pro. Also Lcd QHD is noticeably dim as compared to Nexus 6p screen. It may be personal preference but nexus 6p has noticeably better screen.

I should add that not a big fan of miui by itself. Will wait for either oneplus 3 or this year nexus to come out. Feel free to ask any questions. Cheers

    • How long you have the phone for ?

      • +1

Mate, Had it for more than 9-10 months.

    • I am considering this phone or Mi Max, an upgrade from Redmi Note 4G.

Have you seen this report? http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015/05/mi-note-pro-not-over…

I know this can be PR/marketing but I am wondering if anyone else has the same over-heating experience.

That's aside, anyone can suggest between Mi Note Pro and Mi Max? Thanks.

      • Personally, I would not be buying a phone from xiaomi any time soon given they recently locked their bootloaders. When I bought the phone, I thought I can flash different ROMS as I dont like the MIUI as operating system. Having said that, the screen extremely dim, processor overheats for sure.

If you live in sydney, feel free to come and try my phone and see it yourself. Does get uncomfortably warm!!

  • To me, the processors are irrelevant because I've had them all and they all run sweet. The phone I'd be getting for the extra $50 or $60 as others have said is the note 3 pro with the 4000maH battery. That battery is the biggest draw card. My wife has this phone and it hasn't missed a beat. I am so jealous of her battery. She uses it a fair bit and charges every 2 days and consistently gets 8 hours of screen on time. Epic.

    • +1

I too have been using the Redmi Note 3 Pro myself, and the battery is just absolutely fantastic.
I got the global stable SIM rom from eGlobal $273 with free express shipping (3 days turn around for shipping).
I have got no negative feedback at all with it and because of this great experience I have bought another 2 Mi4c from this post for my parents. Not sure if Mi4c will give me the same happy experience. Time will tell.

      • Let us know how the mi4c compares!

  • I just went to check my order from this seller on Aliexpress.
Both my order is now showing:
    Awaiting Shipment
    Mobile Order
Processing Time remaining: 8 days 11 hours 32 minutes
Does that mean that it will take more than 8 days for seller to find stock??
When I purchased, it was showing over 300 units in stock.
If I have to wait for 8 days for it to be shipped, I would imagine it will be a very long time until it arrives into Australia.
    Anyone have the same problem???

    • hence why i opted for DHL express.

      • Which colour did you buy and has it been shipped?

        • gold man..still waiting tho as I only ordered on sunday

        • @sinishta:
ohhh, this post went up on Monday. Which phone did you buy and from who?

        • @he88388:

got the redmi note pro 3 from aliexpress

  • the cheapest option for Mi4C in this shop showing $137.59 USD

    • I checked earlier, the option for its stand alone phone must have sold out.
But that price of $137.59 package deal includes the headphones, I think.

      • yes, you are correct… I don't need the headphones though :(

  • +1

Mine shipped today. Went with dhl hopefully have it next week.

    • Did you use cashback?

      • Yeah mate.
Got an email earlier today saying it's tracked. $19.80 off the price.

$280 for those specs is to good to refuse. Hell it costs more than that to get a cracked screen repaired on most phones.

  • -1

Forgot cashback on my order… Oops… Still decent even at $275.

Just got this message from the vendor about my mi4c order:
Hi, we are going to process your order, sending you phone with Multi-language ROM to the address you registered. For making international we are going to unpack the box, check the quality and put global firmware, if you want original-chinese unboxed package please note it.

Should I get the vendors multi language ROM or Chinese ROM? Anyone know what is best to do here? Thanks in advance.

  • Looks like no Mi4c for $165

  • -1

Still awaiting my Mi4c to be shipped . I'll just cancel it in a couple of days if it's still not posted .

    • My order is still showing being process but not shipped.

      • Quick update . It was shipped and apparently landed in Australia on the 27th .
No idea why someone negged me , weird .

        • Hey troyww,
My tracking via Singapore Post is showing that it had landed into Australia on the 27 June as well.
I am hoping Auspost will delivered this to me before this weekend. Fingers crossed.

        • @he88388:
I'm in WA so I'll probably be waiting awhile .
Did you get the Mi4 as well ?

        • @troyww:
I am in WA too hahahaha…..
          Yeah, I got 2 x Mi4c in grey colour.
My major concern is that this phone is only released in China and it will be shipped with vendor's custom ROM.
I don't have experience in flashing ROM, but I have got approval from Miui to unlock the bootloader.
I do hope that the multi language vendor's ROM is good without much Chinese malware on it.

        • @troyww:
Still waiting for Auspost to deliver this to my office.
Now that Auspost has increased their delivery times, I might see my phones next week. :(

        • @he88388:

          Still waiting . You ?

        • @troyww:
I am still waiting as well.
I rang Auspost today, they told me to get in touch with sender to lodge an investigation as Auspost have not received the parcel. Auspost will scan it into their system when they have the parcel for delivery.

        • @he88388:
I wouldn't trust Australia Post as far as I could throw them . Always great on the phone but woeful in execution .

        • @troyww:
Yeah. I spoke to Auspost and got three different answers from three different calls. One of them told me that it may have been caught in customs awaiting more info from the seller. He told me to email seller to investigate. One told me to wait 15 working days before ringing again.

        • @troyww:
Hey troyww, I got my delivery of my 2 phones yesterday afternoon.
One of the phone is faulty and the 3 navigation buttons on the bottom of the phone does not switch off. It remains illuminated even when the phone is turned off.
The other phone is not doing it.
It was a bit strange charging the faulty unit for the very first time that the red notification lights started blinking and the battery was emptied upon arrival.
As soon as I started charging the navigation light remains ON at all times.
It is still ON right now in its box and switched off.
I don't think this is a software issue, so I have sent supplier an message for a resolution.
I am not sure how I am going to get things resolved with Aliexpress.
It is very risky without Paypal on your side and I will have to pay for shipping back to China.
Not happy at all. I thought I got a bargain but turned out to be a lemon…… argh!!!

        • @he88388:
Sorry to hear you ended up with a dud , On the plus side you ordered 2 .
I got carded yesterday and picked mine up today . Working fine . Actually impressed it came with cover and sim adaptors .
I threw the 500ma charger in the bin along with the plug adaptor .
Best of luck with Aliexpress . It would of been better if it had just never shown up . No idea what postage will be back to china but I'm sure it won't be cheap nor a very fast turn around .

        • @troyww:
Yeah, I was not very comfortable about buying from Aliexpress.
This was my first order and I bought 3 phones including this 2.
Lesson learnt, luckily the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 was in perfect working order arrived on the same day. It was a bit overwhelming getting 3 phones on the same day. The turn around for the Note 3 was far quicker than these 2 Mi4c.

  • Standard pricing is no longer available for Mi Note Pro now. Have to buy with earphone now. Well, save myself $275.

  • When using mobile, standard pricing available, but in the buy now screen, pricing is $235.28. Am I missing something here ?

  • Does anyone know more details about the global ROM that this comes with? Is it an official Xiaomi ROM and will it auto update?

  • My two mi4c has been shipped out two days ago. Let's see how long it will get into Perth.

  • Got my Mi note pro today.
Nice looking phone and nice and snappy.
Installed Nova Launcher straight away. I've used it on other phones.
Phone came with google playstore installed. it's running MIUI77. stable 77.0.5.0(LXHCNI) android version 5.02LRX22G
There's one app on there I'm not sure about called Cleaner.
Other than that it's a great little phone for the price.

    • Cleaner possibly to delete logs, temp items etc from memory

      • yeah…possibly…I don't recall seeing it on my sons redmi note 3 which has an official international rom

        • Is the phone warm / hot as per some people reviewed ?

        • @yht:
Feels fine…All I've been doing is installing apps and getting set up…Haven't played any games or anything like that (which some say is where it gets hot)

        • @bbourizk: Good to hear. Were you using dhl or standard shipping ? How long it takes to reach you from order date ?

        • @yht:
dhl shipping…ordered on 14th got here today…I'm in country Vic so usually an extra day to get here…it was shipped last Friday and was in Melbourne Saturday.

        • @bbourizk: Wow, that is really quick

        • @yht:
I used cashrewards which got me back $19.80 which just about covered the dhl shipping which was $16USD.

Really for the specs and build quality you can't go wrong.

    • From what I've read, that 77.0.5.0 is a vendor ROM, not the official ROM. If you decide to flash the official global ROM, I'd be interested in hearing how it goes.

      • The rom I found was different to the one installed.
I downloaded it onto the phone and tried using the updater but all I get is a white screen with some Chinese characters that pop up down the bottom and then it closes. No idea what they mean.

I also tried updating through system update and save thing.

Then I downloaded miui suite into PC and it says the phone is up to date.

    • is the bootloader unlocked?

      • It's locked.
I filled in the form to get it unlocked and got permission to unlock it after about 4days.

But it keeps failing. I think the ROM the phone has on it is odd…I can't update it through the phone or mi PC suite.

I'm currently busy trying to get a PC sorted so I haven't really paid any attention to it but will try to flash a stable ROM somehow on it.

        • Hmm that's interesting, I'm assuming if they have installed custom rom (global) meaning they have unlocked the bootloader. are we sure that it's an original mi phone?

i'm thinking to update the rom from here http://xiaomi.eu

        • @anthox80:
As someone mentioned earlier it might be a vendor rom. A quick search indicates a few others have had this rom.

There is no international rom for this phone. Only the China one which doesn't have the play store. So I'm guessing the seller is flashing a ROM with playstore on it.

          Phone works great otherwise.

        • @anthox80:
          Hey mate,
Just used this to flash the latest Rom.
          https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/mi-note-pro-complete-beg…

Come with play store installed…MIUI store no longer there and a couple of apps that were on the original ROM…Phone seems nice and stable.

        • @bbourizk: Thank you so much…have you flashed yours. i'm afraid i will brick my phone.

        • @anthox80:
          Yeah mate.
          Did it yesterday… pretty easy.
First time I just forgot to put the .zip at the end of the firmware in command prompt and it did nothing.

Second go it went through. Just follow that guide. Just remember the bit with side loading the firmware in twrp. You have to put the exact file name for the ROM you downloaded and add the .zip at the end. Then factory reset and your done.

This rom is way better than the vendor rom it came with.

        • @bbourizk: Great, will give it a whirl. Thanks.

        • @anthox80:
Let us know how you go.
It's a great phone and I have no heating issue…just works beautifully. On par to my bootlooped g4.

        • @anthox80:
A little update for you mate.

To unlock the bootloader you need to be on the developer ROM.
Once you install the stable Rom, on the phone download the developer rom from MiUI site and flash that.
Then the unlocker will work…Literally 10seconds to unlock

        • @bbourizk: so i can just go to the developer rom then?
