Wow that is cheap, I bought mine for something like $220 with the included PCI-E wifi adapter which I thought was a good deal!

  • +1

Wow, I paid about $250 for this router a year or so ago (short notice purchase as my old one packed itself). Is a solid modem/router, just make sure you update to the latest firmware.

    • Except if you want to use manual firewall rules, which for some inexplicable reason the new firmware removed.

  • +1

Bargain! I've already got one but I'm tempted to buy one more at this price (not that I need one more).

  • Would this be an upgrade from an Asus N56U router? Using on NBN

I could use the Asus as an AP if I get this

    • +1

Nah pointless unless you're maxing out WiFi.

  • Would this be a good router for my home set up with ADSL? My Netgear one is already about 5 years old. Wondering if this would be a good chance to have a replacement one ready for when that goes? Thanks in advance; I'm not too tech savvy .

    • Yes, this is a great price. I'd use this one and hold on to your old one as a backup if ever needed.

    • This is one of the best Modem router available in Market and for this price get two.

      I paid about $250 a year ago.

  • -1

:( I bought mine for $217 at office works last month after price match with MSY.

Can I return it because I've changed my mind?

  • +1

Ouch that hurts… I paid 200 bucks for this just a week ago.

  • Agree, a bargain, esp with the usb range extender. Paid more for my D7, although that was 18 months ago.

  • Never had a good experience with these. Constant disconnections on ADSL and NBN.

    • -1

This doesn't support NBN so I am not surprised its dropping out..

      • TPLink and all the other posts didn't seem to think so.

        Source

        • It seems like you're turning a modem into a wireless router.
You will still need a NBN box or modem depending on your NBN setup.
Much better to get 1 device to do the modem work and wireless..

        • @Roary: It's a modem router. By putting it in Wireless Router Mode it becomes…. a router.

The modem would be the NTD. Cable from UNI-V port to WAN port in the D9.

        • @Clear:
Pretty sure that what I said.
So its got nothing to do with your NBN dropping out.

        • @Roary: As I said in the first place. I've never had a good experience with the D9 as it drops out more often than other routers on ADSL and NBN.

  • How could I use this with my normal Optus Cable modem? Would I have to use the Bridge Mode thing?

    • That's the way mate. Use them in bridge mode and you're good to go.

      • Depends if the firmware allows it… my optus has custom firmware and bridge mode is not an option…. I tried disabling wifi and setting the other modem on the same ip which has worked for me previous modems…but the optus modem kept crashing and burning with that so changed it to an ip address in the range set in the console… wifi is far superior now than being 10 feet away round a plasterbaord wall with no wifi reception with their top of the range piece of crap…

  • +2

    i see price is $239??

    • +1

      Yep they just changed it.

      • +1

Damn must be a pricing error, sorry guys :(

        • +7

Don't be. It might be respected.
Rather feel sorry for the person who made the typo :)

        • +2

Is it eligible for the 20% off? If so, $191.20 is still a good price for it…

        • +2

@matthewk85: Will see what the mods think. $191.20 is cheapest ever but $111.20 was a steal and that's the price people upvoted..

        • +1

          You shouldn't be apologising, ShamelesBargains.

  • Good deal. I paid $200+ for this 4 months ago. Wireless performance is good around the entire house and I restart the thing maybe once a month.

  • +1

They've changed the price back to $239 as I was in checkout - how frustrating!

That range extender alone is worth ~$50

  • How solid are these compare to the likes of Netgear Nighthawk series and Billion?

  • +1

The price shown is $239. After 20% off is $191.2. Is there anymore steps it has to be done ?

Aside from the price is good, the QoS of this router is poorly implemented. I bought mine for $220 6 months ago. The configured QoS does not throttle background traffic good enough to allow Youtube, Internet audio, games to play. I ended up using it as WiFi access point and still use my old DrayTek as the main Internet gateway.

  • So between viewing the item and me buying it the price updated without me realizing. Hopefully Wireless 1 agree to cancel the order.

  • +1

Too slow, anyone bought it at the price?

  • Have reposted the deal at the updated price. At the updated price, it is still cheaper than Futu Online (the next cheapest price).

  • ANyone bought at $139 ?

  • damn

  • anyone got it honoured?

    • wouldnt hold my breath. I'm sure they reserve the right if genuine price error and offer it $183 which is the correct price after discount.

      • It's eBay, though, so a bit more complicated than a price error (if that's what this is) at their own site. They'll be weighing up the impact on their feedback and seller performance rating.

        • Still commercial retailer. Nothing a 20 buck voucher won't fix or then again a neg reviews is a drop in the ocean.

    TP-LINK 3 year warranty
Not worth the paper it's printed on. I was asked to send 2 failed powerline units back & pay them $15 for them to return replacement units to me. It turns out it wasn't an uncommon problem.

TP-LINK chose to use cheap capacitors in this model, which resulted in the failure
    http://www.kphonline.co.uk/2012/12/repairing-a-dead-tp-link-…

Luckily you can do the fix yourself. And pay TP-LINK nothing.
I would never buy from them again.

But the internet is full of these types of stories, so just add another one to the pile, eh?

    • Or you could just return it to the POP. (but you will still have to pay for your fuel or PT ticket sorry).

      • -1

problem is I couldn't find the receipt. I think they were bought in ALDI when ALDI had them as a special.

I wouldn't put it past them to use cheap capacitors again. And here I was thinking that the cheap chinese capacitor saga was well and truly behind us. In any case, failed well within 3 years (both units).

TP-LINK know of this problem very well judging by how many people it's happened to on the net.

        • Just a FYI for future reference. You don't need receipt to turn something, just proof of purchase.

Depending on which store you purchased from and what information you have at hand, the store should be able to locate your receipt, or at the minimum send it off without a receipt and they can confirm if it is their/their supplier stock on the back end. Of course you will have issues if you don't remember which store you bought it from.

        • Of course you will have issues if you don't remember which store you bought it from.

Yeah. There were also other issues with TP-LINK, like having to contact them twice before they would get someone to contact me back from their Australian subsidiary (each time giving them my full details), but that is all part-and-parcel of the unprofessional experience I had with them.

Like I said earlier, just another 'bad experience' story on the internet.

    • Iirc that is against the Au warranty law. Manu has to pay the freight in most cases. Auction purchases may differ.

      • I suspected so. I didn't buy it on auction, it was definitely in-store.

Failure of the device happened about 1.5 years into using it. The second unit failed about 2 months after the first one (similar to many other people; failure within 2 years). TP-LINK got all the serial numbers they wanted & should have been able to know it was well withiin warranty & done a no-hassle replacement after me sending it to them (which I was prepared to do).

But no. They wanted to charge.

Which tells you something about the way they conduct business. My guess is they know this model was a big problem for them & it was costing them too much. So this is what they did to reduce the bleeding. It still amazes me that today manufacturers are going with the cheapest capacitors in order to reap more profit.

Until this experience I was happily recommending them. Not so anymore.
        I still have the emails.

          For future reference:

          Returning the product
You are entitled to return a product if you believe that there is a problem. You are generally responsible for returning the product if it can be posted or easily returned. You are entitled to recover reasonable postage or transportation costs from the business if the product is confirmed to have a problem, so keep your receipts.

When a product is too large, too heavy or too difficult to remove, the business is responsible for paying the shipping costs or collecting the product within a reasonable time of being notified of the problem. Examples include:

          -a wide screen TV
          -a bed
-an extension ladder stuck in the extended position
-a product that has been subsequently installed, like a stove or a dishwasher.
You do not have to return products in the original packaging in order to get a refund.

If the product is found not to have a problem, you may be required to pay the transport or inspection costs. An estimate of these costs should be provided to you before the product is collected, and the costs must not be inflated in an attempt to deter you from pursuing your claims.

        • @Possumbly:
          Thanks for that.

I am not one to waste time with thier idiocy or take it up with whoever; I simply fix it myself & stop buying from them (and stop recommending them). Hopefully this gear here doesn't come with cheap capacitors but it wouldn't surprise me.

  • how do you apply the 20% discount? I can't see any place to enter the code and when I click buy it takes me to the commit to purchase page (at $239)

    • You have to commit to purchase and then it takes you to the checkout page where you can enter the CLICKMORE code in and get 20% off.

      • thanks!

      • I find this annoying that group buys don't have the cart feature and force you to commit

    FYI,

Officeworks carries this. You might try a price-match.

    :)

    • I asked they said they won't price match eBay stores.

      • That's surprising…I did a match a while back & they did it in WA?

I suppose it's "technically" an Ebay store- but Wireless1 has an online presence…which is how I matched.

Oh well, you can only ask, I suppose.

        • I told them the same thing, they have a store in Sydney but just no match.

  • I purchased at:
    Payment $111.20 AUD
This charge will appear on your credit card statement as "PAYPAL *WIRELESS1PT"
    Payment sent to [email protected]

It appears to have charged me and I would assume I will receive the product I have paid for. Hoping so!

  • Looks like pricing error fixed ??? Now showing $229 :-(

  • They have posted the modem for $111.20 and it should be delivered today. I am guessing other people will also be receiving theirs as well?

    • +2

      Yes, received mine yesterday.
