This is a rock solid SSD and using reliable sandisk branded MLC nand as well.. (better then TLC) found on most other cheap drives

    • I have to agree, though I don't see many reviews on these drives… I've been using them in my basic builds and laptops and they work perfectly (old laptops, netbooks, old Core2Duo machines etc).

    • I have one previously from Futu last eBay deal $99 also. It's flawless.

      http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/7726/sandisk-ssd-plus-z410-…

Not sure if they are still using MLC on these drives, according to this, they are 15nm planar TLC.

  • Should I sell these and get the SanDisk?

    • +5

Not worth the trouble… BX200 is a good drive.. even though it uses TLC nand it should still be good enough for personal use and the TLC should last 10 years+ with normal day to day use. The other parts of the drive may not last 10 years though. Even the super reliable Samsung 830 (MLC) 240GB SSD failed on me inside a gaming laptop.. my guess is the heat was the reason.

Lasted just over 3 years. Always make sure you have a backup of important files, 32, 64GB USB sticks are cheap these days and 1TB portable HDD drives are not to bad either ( when on sale)

In most cases the controllers/circuit boards on most SSD's will fail before the flash nand life is reached .. SSD's are like little PC's themselves.

Great, appreciate the long write up, thanks! :)

Are these noticeably slower than the Ultra II drives?

    • +1

I believe these have slower writes, not sure for what filesizes but you probably won't notice that much in real life situations. I think Ultra II's around this size sell for $110.

1 or 2 seconds here or there inst going to be noticeable. :) Once you have an SSD. Its time to look at CPU and Graphics card for that extra performance.

I'm going to grab myself an 8 core 16 thred AMD Zen when they come out and maybe a Polaris 10, Vega 10 (4096 Cores) or Vega 11 (6000+ Cores)

If only I waited a day before buying the same ssd. Could have saved me 10$!

    • :( .. time travel is the only option .. now i know why Guy Pearce went to all that trouble in the time machine movie.

You can always try to refund it…

      • Amateurs!

    • That's why I'm still afraid to buy now!

  • Add $15 for external enclosure and it's a nice add on for the Android TV box.

    • Can it be then used as a portable HDD?

      • sure can. only require an external case for added protection - highly recommended, worth investing in a proper one.

    • Any recommendation for SSD drive enclosure on eBay while 20% off?

  • How do these group buy items work? Do you get the item sent at the end of the group buy finishing?

    • +1

I'm not sure - but just bought one. June 22 estimated postage to Brisbane Metro.

I think they have stock of only 1000 units - once they sell out, deal is gone.

Got my first ozbargain SSD today, thanks to this deal.

    Is this the new eneloop?

    • Ya and it's to power your blurray drive

  • Cool, bought one! Now just need a laptop for it to go in. Bring on EOFY.

  • Do you put the coupon in AFTER commit to buy? :/ I see no option beforehand to add it to my cart

    • Enter at Checkout page

      • So the checkout page is after commit to buy? because for this particular group deal it just says 'Buy' and then the next screen is immediately 'Commit to buy'

Any thoughts on cloning software? I went with a Samsung SSD for mine and the cloning software that came with that was flawless. Now for my fiance's laptop, I don't want to do a clean install due to potential loss of programs.

    • following.

    • As per their web site "The SanDisk SSD Plus comes with easy, step-by-step instructions and cloning software to help you set up your new drive.". I would also like to know if it is flawless.

      • Interesting. From memory I bought my parents an SSD for their laptop (wasn't interested in cloning at the time), but don't remember any software coming with it. Would love to hear from someone who's actually used it.

    • +1

There isn't one with Sandisk. Use Macrium reflectfree or AOMEI Backupper http://www.backup-utility.com/disk-clone-software.html

      • see giu's comment above, that's straight from their website. But thanks for the other options. Have you used either?

        • +1

          Both works really well.

  • Any deals on a 480GB? Cheapest I found on eBay is $160 from PC Byte (delivered) with 20% discount.

    • sounds about right.

  • Bugger, I Need more sata ports :/

  • You guys have to hurry, ebay says only 9XX left.

  • will this work on a Synology NAS box ?

    • +1

if it supports 2.5" drives then it should work.. SSD's are the same as HDD's all but in the technology inside. They are simple storage medium and the only issue when using them on PC's and NAS Drives is the OS recognizing the device.. ( most NAS boxes use a form of linux for the OS )

Check NAS model + SSD/HDD brand compatibility drive list using google.

Our Synology DS1515+ supports SSD's and so does our DS1315+ But i would always double check online for a compatibility list to be sure to be sure.

  • thanks op

  • cant find any official reviews, some user reviews here and there but all positive, i will buy this for my old Macbook Pro, it will make it good as new!

    • I have the 120GB version of this drive that i got from MSY for $59.. working great so far.. very nice drive.. also have a 4 year old Sandisk Ultra 256gb drive still running well.. no issues at all.. lots of OS reinstall/upgrades and usage + Gaming

      • +1

Yeah, my 4 year old Sandisk Ultra 256GB is going strong as well.
Bought that from PC Express, before they became well aware of the ozbargain site.

  • ordered the Kingston Digital 240GB UV400 yesterday, was wondering if this sandisk is better?

    • Not really. The Kingston should offer better performance. However, it uses TLC NAND rather than the MLC, but that isn't a problem unless you're doing constant writes to the drive. Kingston rates the UV400 to have a minimum of 100TB of writes (safe estimate), and I've just hit 5TB on my ~3 year old Samsung EVO that's been in 3 systems for comparison (medium workload).

  • Thanks OP, got my first ssd. Now to see the difference it makes to my old PC.

  • Does it mean we have to wait 10 days till group deal finishes?

  • Hi guys. Just wondering if someone could guide me through the hdd to ssd upgrade on a laptop. I have seen the video on youtube and its fairly easy to do. I am confused about how to clone the hdd to ssd. There are softwares available, but do I need a ssd-usb converter? I am not sure how to connect the hdd and ssd at the same time so that the hdd can be cloned. Thanks

  • futu online ebay offering $3 cheaper. will get faster?

  • Received mine today 21 June
    Sydney cbd

  • Ordered on Monday… still waiting for it to be shipped out.

    • Wow good timing, they just sent it out.
