        • Battery is grrreat on this. 5 hr SOT mostly. Only issue is earlier charge cycle was every day with previous phone .. this lasts between 1.5 to 2 days.. no fix time to charge.. haha - good problem to have

        • I really miss TTW. I can deal with the camera because the xiaomi is pretty good in good light and I don't really use it after hours. The battery is the killer on this though; I'm a Commercial RE Agent and I would be charging the G3 throughout the day when the xiaomi gets me through to bedtime still at 30% (on a really busy day).

  • Hi, I am looking for a good working phone to replace my rubbish iphone 5 (battery life is useless). I want huge amount of memory - so I will get the 64G.

Is there anything else people think I should know before buying this phone? Like how does this compare to Google nexus?
Also - how hard is it for the not so tech advanced (like myself) to download the keyboard business etc if I don't speak Chinese?

    Thanks so much in advance!

    • think samsung note 4 - this would compare to that
camera not much to mention here, its does ok in good lighting

        Thanks !

The standard EU rom is just android with a facelift and a few changes (see above). Under the hood it's the same product.

Also - how hard is it for the not so tech advanced (like myself) to download the keyboard business etc if I don't speak Chinese?

Depends what it's loaded with - if it's got the EU rom or an english developer rom, there will be no evidence it's a chinese phone. If it's got the CN rom then it would be a complete mess with no google store/baidu apps/bilingual keyboard. The positive of that being it's much easier to unlock/flash if it's got the stock CN developer rom.

  • I paid $300 all up including DHL now only $259… Speechless

    • I know huh.how long does dhl shipment take?

      • +1

3 days usually. The processing time from the seller can be longer though.

        • +2

I still remember waiting a month for my lenovo k3 note from jd -_-

        • +1

Processing time give it 5 days DHL 3 days. Free shipping wait for 3 weeks I say

      • +1

I live in Tasmania and I ordered the phone on a Friday and used DHl, it arrived the following Wednesday

      • Bought it from the same seller. Took them exactly 7 days before it was shipped (that was 2 Thursdays ago). DHL had it from last Thursday till Sunday. It's now sitting in Australia Post somewhere in transit, today on Monday 7pm. I've got fingers crossed for tomorrow.. Shouldnt have sent it to a parcel locker..

        • I've had a lot of issues DHL sending packages to parcel locker. Unless it is a subsidiary of AusPost (which is only StarTrack from memory) you're gonna have a hard time.

        • @CodeXD: Just checked through MyPost account and it looks alright so far. ETA tomorrow. Got all my fingers and toes crossed. I'll keep your advice in mind for the next time I get something through DHL.

  • What are people choosing for cases? An extra $13 USD seems steep for a flimsy case as a 'Gift'!

Also, is it the same as Ebay? Add items to cart, phone, case from elsewhere and pay as one transaction?

    Thanks.

    • The official xiaomi leather flip case is nice. But they are $10+. There is also a hybrid tpu case that's about $4 which is well received.

Edit: their supplied cases are usually always junk.

  • Would the camera on this be better than an iPhone 5c camera?

    • +3

No.camera is not great. If u want a better camera, go for lg g4

        • +1

S5 has way better camera mate..I using xiaomi note 3..except for the camera, everything else is real good value for money..I don't use the camera much, so not fussed..

    • +1

      NO.

    • +1

camera nothing to write home about

      • Can't be that bad right? I thought it uses the same 16mp Sony sensor from the Samsung Note 4?

        • +2

That's what I thought before buying mine a few months back, but yeah, it is actually pretty bad. Good enough for outdoor but forget indoor IMO.

        • Mine is pretty poor also but I have since noticed that the front camera takes much sharper images than the rear. Therefore maybe I just got a dud model and the rear camera would normally be better than mine is?

    • +1

from memory, it doesn't have an image stabilizer so it will be shaky for video too

      • Agree. However its the same like S4/S5 I would say

    • Camera on this gets cannnned. Big reason i didn't jump all over this deal. It's just a smartphone camera, but i use mine everyday for photos of one thing or another.

  • +1

was the dark gray in stock at some point and sold out? or was never in stock at this price?

  • +1

Arhh maybe I should wait another week and pay for the DHL. Paid on 9/Jun for us$180 and chose free shipping. Got tracking no on 16/Jun and it's still not trackable in the system yet.

    • +1

Bought last 10-jun / status change to shipped on 16-Jun / tracking number provided on Jun-17 (depart from warehouse)

  • Thanks, going to try this brand first time. Hopefully it's worth a shot.

  • How is the normal shipping from Aliexpress? They say 15-45 (really 45 days…).

  • Good upgrade from a note 3?

    • This is a note 3 pro, so no xD

  • +4

Just a heads up. If you're planning on watching movies and stuff from an SD card, the phone only supports SD cards formatted in FAT and not exFAT. This means your movie files can't be larger than 4GB.

    • That I didn't know. So only FAT works, but not exFAT? That's bizzare, usually supports FAT32 minimum

      • +1

I think he means FAT 32 which would limit your file size to 3.8gb, or whatever it actually is.

        • +1

          Yeah I meant FAT32.

  • I've read from last week's comment on the other xiaomi phone that was posted here that a new Redmi Note 3 pro with band 28 will be coming out soon from Taiwan if i'm not mistaken.???

  • How would the Snap Dragon 650 in this compared to the Snap Dragon 800 in my Nexus 5 ?

    • Its faster. 650 is equivalent to the Snapdragon 808 - what Nexus 5X has.

      • Wow. Great deal then. It is so hard to find comparisons anywhere.

  • If the seller already flashed english rom, is that mean they bootloader already unlocked and I can easily flash the global rom by myself.

    • No, bootloader is not unlocked. You need to use the fastboot method to flash the global rom. You can apply for an unlock code from Xiaomi so when you get it you can flash to global or dev and then unlock the bootloader with the code.

      • +2

You only need the bootloader unlocked if you plan to install a customn rom like ASOP. I flashed from vendor to global just fine without it

        • I flashed from vendor to global just fine without it

I want the stable global rom, so I just need to download the the rom and flash it without unlocking the bootloader?

        • @superforever:

there is about 5 steps, download the ADB drivers, connect the phone to the pc in ADB mode, install the adb drivers, download rom and flash suite, flash

        • @Pacify:

Thanks, is that mean the phone didn't come with the recovery mode?

  • Can't see what Version of Android is it shipped with 6 Marshmallow? Not really confident to flash it.

  • guys… reading throw the page and found below, seems to be a deal breaker for me when we cannot upgrade the OS of the phone…

"Please do not update or change your phone's software and firmware, otherwise, we will not take any responsibility."

    • +3

otherwise, we will not take any responsibility."

Anything wrong you won't send it back anyway.

  • I didn't buy it from here but I sold my Galaxy Note4 and bought this, which was my best decision!!

It took me some effort to reflash the stock ROM to Global stable ROM because it was my first time.

I must say MIUI is way better than bloody Touchwiz from Galaxy. It is quicker and more stable.

Finger print scanner is a gem Two thumbs up.

If you still doubt that phones from China would be dodgy, try this.

Im not gonna buy flagships ever again.

    • From what I read, you can choose between a unofficial "global" ROM which receives no updates (and may have other stuff baked into it), or an Official Chinese ROM which has no play store. How did you flash yours? I thought the bootloaders were locked? Could you order it with the official Chinese ROM and then use the Xiaomi updater tool to load a global ROM?

      • +1

You don't need to unlock bootloader to flash. It just a pretty normal process. Download drivers, turn off phone and enable flashmode(or what ever it was called), connect to usb, install the ADB drivers, download the ROM and flash suit from Miui and flash. The only hard bit is if your internet sucks to download the rather large ROM file

      • +1

        http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

pretty easy to follow. (I believe it is better to unlock the bootloader and reflash)

Must have an official ROM (preferably Global stable ROM) to receive regular updates.

If you have the Global ROM, you dont have to see Chinese characters from your phone.

People who tried my phone never noticed it is a Chinese phone.

Still no black available from these guys?
I need a new one to replace the one I smashed. Not that keen on white or gold though

    • Does the touchscreen still work once you have smashed the screen?

  • There's a lot of questions in regards to ROM's in here.

    This is from their listing:
    "
    1. Does it have Google Play and Multi-language?
Yes, it does. If you don’t ask for factory firmware, we need to open the box and install official global firmware. This firmware can’t be updated.Kindly remind that incomplete translation cannot be avoided no matter official or unoffical ROM."

From this can we assume it's the official global rom or just an english rom with google play installed?

    • Reviews from other customers say its the official global rom.

      • +2

Yeah awesome, that was my understanding when ordering…

For some feedback on timing I ordered this from the same supplier when they had it for $179.99USD + DHL shipping.

Ordered Last Monday 13/6 evening around 8:00pm
Processed Friday morning 17/6 and marked as shipped
        Arrived Monday 20/6 around 10:30am

Not home to confirm what "global rom" it has but if I don't forget will check it out and reply tonight.

        • I have just ordered it, so it is good to know.

Also check if it comes with free screen protector and TPU case.

        • I went with Standard so expecting:

          Screen Protector
          TPU Case
          Sim Adapter
          Charger Adapter

          again will confirm tonight

        • Everything above was included.

MIUI Global 7.2.5.0 will see how I go with any OTA updates later

        • Updated over OTA V7.3.5.0 no need to muck around with anything

        • @farfromparadise:

Did u ask for global rom or it comes by itself?

        • @superforever:
Yeah I did but I think it's the default option for this store as stated by others above

        • @farfromparadise:

How to tell if it is really stock global rom?

        • @superforever:

My very very limited understanding is, the simplistic way of knowing is if it's not the official global rom it won't update OTA… Happy for others who know more to chime in.

        • @farfromparadise:

Look like 7.3.5.0 is the stock global rom.

          http://en.miui.com/thread-293486-1-1.html

    • -1

The "global ROM" option, as opposed to the factory firmware option is a custom multi-language global ROM which has Google Play installed. Hence, there are no OTA updates for this ROM.

I would opt for the factory firmware and flash the official Xiaomi stable global ROM which is currently V7.3.5.0.LHOMIDD and which can be downloaded here.

      • Would there be any added difficulty in trying to flash a factory ROM phone? Presumably it will be in Chinese! I guess it's either this or get the 'global' ROM, unlock the boot loader and then flash the stable official global ROM?

Also, do you know if this is the same deal with the Mi4c phones that this seller is offering?

        • The factory firmware has English and Chinese only and that is why the vendor's custom multi-language global ROM is popular with buyers from Europe as it has English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Italian and Norwegian.

These are the instructions for going from the China ROM to the Global ROM with a locked bootloader: http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

      • Does that require a boot load unlock?

      • +2

This is what I asked earlier.
It is frustrating that there seems to be a lot of conflicting information on exactly what ROM it comes with, and the best approach to getting a clean Xiaomi Global ROM…..

        • +1

          Great.

Although it sounds a bit risky for us non-techie types! Don't fancy an expensive Brick.

      • This was asked earlier and from customer feedback it comes with the official global rom from xiaomi, not some homebrew other stores supply. Have you ordered this phone prior and can confirm?

  • -1

    waiting for 200 delivered

  • +3

I just purchased two phones.. DHL went from $22.69 to $26.17. Pretty happy with that :) If you have a friend wanting to purchase this phone too it might be worth ordering together.

    • +1

Any of my OZB friend around?

  • For anyone wondering, i bought this phone not long ago from EGlobaldigitalcameras, and i want to let people know that the SD Card support is only for FAT32. Which means it's slower, and there's a limit to the file size (4gb limit). ExFat is not supported with the SD card since XiaoMi are cutting costs with avoiding to pay royalty to Microsoft for ExFat support.

It means that you won't be able to put you bluray rips onto the card. If you're init for a massive photo or music library then that's fine.

Not sure if this will work but you may be able to flash to cyanogenmod for exfat support.

Other than that it's a great phone. Only downside is lackluster camera.

    • internal memory should let you add bigger files or not?

    • +1

Bluray rip movies are lower than 4gb anyway. I haven't seen any bluray rips i've downloaded to be higher than that except for a true Blu-Ray which has 7.1 surround sound which i don't think you would put in a phone anyway.

    • Yeah.. do it right. You should be able to get 1080p blueray rips under 4G.
Does SD 650 chipset support H.265 playback? If so you can rip your blueray to h.265 at half the size of h.264.

      • yes it works

    • +1

      Fat32 isn't slower.

  • Hey everyone, I'm looking at buying either this or the Xiaomi Mi4s. Which one do you think would be better? Also, if anyone could answer this question for me that would be great! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/253318

    Thanks!

  • I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 now. Would this be a comparable upgrade? I live near Wolloongong. Any negatives?

    • same, thinking of upgrading to this one but not sure if its any better than my current samsung note 4 :|

  • Heads up: Honor 5c (Huawei) is set to disrupt redmi 3 note sales. 5.2", 1080p, 2/3gb, 16/32gb, 3000mah, marshmallow, better 13mp camera.
    http://www.androidcentral.com/honor-5c-moto-g4-killer-headed…
    Might explain this price drop.

    • +1

I'd take take the note 3 because of the 4000mah battery

    • Thanks for the heads up. Extra battery vs better camera. Decisions decisions.
