    +Thanks. 15M is nice.

      That's what she said

      • +22

Didn't I just hear your mum say "turn off the computer, time for bed young man"?

      • +2

probably thinks m is smaller than mm.

  • Thanks!

  • +1

Saves me putting power on in the garage. Thanks.

    • +21

Saves getting the power connected as my neighbour already has it on.

      • Is there a trick to hooking it up without being noticed? Whenever I run it over the fence, they kind of see it and unplug me.

  • +12

That's hell cheap…starting to like Masters a lot now…really hope they don't close down soon …

    • -5

they're cheap because they're closing down

      • +19

They could have done 20% store wide or something, but they didn't…somehow I think someone will step in to buy Masters & they know it.. I haven't heard of single store confirmed closing down

I done my bit to help. Bought all my new house's supplies from Masters, I support competition :)

        • +3

Woolies is intending to pull out so they'll be looking at buyers (Hello Anchorage Capital)
I like them too apart from a crappy ebay sale transaction that went sour.
At least they have proper % off sales

      • They don't intend to replenish stock, so this is merely an elongated closing down sale.

    • +3

Was in a Masters over the weekend for the first time in a long time. Was surprised that the carpark was full and inside was the busiest I had ever seen it. Even better for them was that customers were buying and not just tyre kicking.

  • +2

Pretty good, need the extra 10amps to finally transfere the 1.21 gigawatts

    • +5

I don't think the insulation is rated for the 121,000,000 volts you're going to need.

      • purchased just a few and worked fine, real world vs theory,,real word wins once again

  • got one . thanks

    this will come handy

  • Might be a dumb question, but what would you use this for?

    • +10

worst case can be used as a cloth hanger…

    • +4

Garage or automotive work where power point is not close e.g. using electric power washer to clean car. Or outside gathering in backyard where you want to hook up stereo or lighting. Or church or public function where you want to hook up amp/microphone some distance from power point

      • I was thinking of running few spotlights for a party but not sure if it can handle the amps

        • Depends on the type of lights, how many, and how much current they draw (and if anything else is on the same circuit)

        • +1

When I was at school they taught watt = volt × amp. Dunno what they teach now.

        • They are rated at 10A, so you will get 2400 watts out of them. Plenty of breathing room - unless they are ridiculous spotlights.

      • +1

        For indoor use only !

    • +1

Might be a dumb question, but what would you use this for?

      That most certainly is.

  • +2

    Thanks bought!

For those after something more extensive Bunnings has a 25metre one for $14.40…

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/click-25m-black-and-orange-heavy…

    • Not sure about 25M on 1mm cable.

    • +3

      Bunnings has a 25metre one for $14.40…

That's just a LEAD. Not really the same thing.

The beauty of the windup ones like this Masters deal is the neat storage, plus it has a 2-way powerboard built in!

      • +6

        4 way

    • +1

Thanks for the link mate, needed one like this. Very cheap price!

  • Does the whole cable needs to pulled out for it to work?

    • +1

I believe it suggest it as a safety warning

    • +9

Does the whole cable needs to pulled out for it to work?

No - it will work without being unreeled.

However, if you pull any decent amount of power through it while still coiled, you make an interesting electromagnetic device. It acts more like an inductor, and self-heats and causes an excessive voltage drop.

So, with light loads (an amp or so) it'll be fine. Drawing 8A or 10A continuously (eg: large lighting load) you would want it fully extended.

      • Unless it is very small load and/or very short time, I would observe the specs recommendation.

        "
        Essential Safety

Do Not Operate Unless Cord Fully Unreeled
        "

        • +1

I would observe the specs recommendation

Yes, however that is written there due to the maximum load. The coiling is simply a "de-rating"… so a 10A lead might only be suitable for 5A when coiled.

All extension leads are the same… these ones with built in reel are no different to any other form of extension lead or cable (even a phone charger, if there is no grounded shield in the wire!)

If anyone is after a heavy duty one its also on sale. Unfortunately its 10m not 15
    https://m.masters.com.au/product/101681204/masterplug-10a-he…

    • I need one for the farm for running off a generator. This or the heavy duty one?

      • +1

Farms and generators have no particular relevance. Electricity works the same way in the city and the country!

The lead you require is based upon the load and distance requires.
Generally, the larger the conductors (1.0mm², 1.5mm², etc) the better, however the larger cables are heavier, larger, more unwieldy and more costly.

        • What I meant was that it will be used outside and kept in a shipping container. So will it last is the heavy duty more solidly built

        • +1

@eneloop: it looks like the cord is similar but the only real difference is the unit itself.
if the unit will be outside then the heavy duty one may be better but if its indoors and not going to get knocked around or anything then this one should be fine…

  • Would buy 1

  • Purchased, thanks. Hopefully enough stock left.

  • Dont forget cashrewards 2% and 5% sign up discount. And yes use your wish card which you purchased with 6% discount from groupon.

    • +1

Cash Rewards may not be payable on items bought with a gift card.

      • didnt knew that.. anyways its worth sacrificing 2% delayed reward…

        • I've had rewards paid out when using gift cards to purchase goods at Dan Murphy's. I always treat cash back systems as a nice surprise if it does actually work.

    • cashrewards for Masters is now 4%

  • Yep, all good managed to get cashback: AUD 0.27 :)

  • +1

Just what I always wanted. Thanks bought one.

  • +1

    Got one, cheers!

    Thanks OP, got one.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Heaps left at Masters Knoxfield VIC.

  • +1

Majura (ACT) has stock… just ordered one, thanks OP.

  • Just picked up a couple from Tingalpa, QLD (was at least a dozen left). They seem fairly sturdy!

  • I bought the heavy duty one last time..that was 25 meters not sure if i need another one.

  • Is it intended for indoor use only?

The print on the thing says:

DO NOT OPERATE UNLESS CORD FULLY UNREELED FOR INDOOR USE.

I think it's of limited use if you have to unreel the entire thing. If you're using it indoors, how often do you need 15m cord?

Anyone know how much it normally costs?

    • +2

I think it's of limited use if you have to unreel the entire thing.

ALL extension leads are exactly the same.

Read the discussion above, we've covered this already… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/253800#comment-3793685

Is it intended for indoor use only?

Yep - it's definitely not for continual use outside in the rain, etc.

Same as every other extension lead…. you cannot leave them outside because the plug is not waterproof.

If you're using it indoors, how often do you need 15m cord?

If you need a 3 meter extension lead, then simply buy a 3m extension lead (for about $3).

Obviously you wouldn't buy a 15 metre long extension lead unless you NEED a 15 metre extension lead. Doh!

Anyone know how much it normally costs?

15m Reels like this normally cost about $40

      Here's el-cheapo 10m Arlec at Bunnings. https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-surge-protected-4-socket-c…

  • Im running this to the shed…connected to a sheltered outdoor power socket and the reel with 4 switches (and charger is inside. only the lead running outside. anyone know if this is ok? would/could you cover the lead running outside with something?

    • The cable shielding on the extension cable is not designed for outdoor use, you can use it but it will deplete over time, may harden and crack and expose the wires inside.

Short term yes, long term no.

  • Got one at lunchtime at Rutherford NSW. Just one left. Thanks OP.
